What kind of indie does Tyler listen to? I saw the tweet that mentioned he was listening to real estate, which is strummy guitar-driven indie.

Finally a link to a tumblr that says everything weve been saying on this thread for the last 48 hours

my takeaway from that is that you didn't understand a single thing I said in the "-er"/"-a" debate

Okay, Back To Regular Shit: SO I FUCKING FAILED AT GETTING A PICTURE OF MY FART. FUCK

i think this makes me hate odd future more than anything else. gross

generally speaking, if you can actually get a picture of it I think you did more than just fart

CLUB PISCOPO (DJP), Thursday, 11 August 2011 14:30 (fourteen years ago)

let's analyze this at great length for lex's edification

actually dan I thought we were pretty much on the same page—weren't you saying that Albini, though he was mistaken in writing it 'that way', had made an understandable mistake inasmuch as context would have led him to believe that odd future intended the more insulting/derogatory meaning? whereas my position is basically: I DON'T CARE, the context will always trump this kind of semantic bullshit and I don't think that it matters whether they pronounced the r or not when they were telling the bus driver to fuck off

(but you are right that I did not understand the "bitch" analogy at all, except possibly argument in favor of PEOPLE NOT USING EITHER OF THESE WORDS IN A 'FRIENDLY'/'JOKING' WAY)

swaguirre, the wrath of basedgod (bernard snowy), Thursday, 11 August 2011 15:09 (fourteen years ago)

*except possibly as an argument etc

yeah parfrey keeps bugging me about that but first I've got to finish this 33 1/3 book on the weird world of blowfly

xxxps

context will always trump this kind of semantic bullshit and I don't think that it matters whether they pronounced the r or not when they were telling the bus driver to fuck off

(btw this is also why the teacher in that TV clip comes across like such a disingenuous [t/f]ool)

swaguirre, the wrath of basedgod (bernard snowy), Thursday, 11 August 2011 15:15 (fourteen years ago)

We were very close on this but not entirely on the same page.

I was saying that "nigga" is just as inflammatory and offensive as "nigger" to someone outside of your social context. Albini didn't know any of these kids; all he knew is that they were obnoxious and rude as hell. Given the rest of their behavior, there is absolutely no point in splitting the hair that is the difference between a person saying "nigga" and a person saying "nigger".

The "bitch" analogy follows on from that; the assumption is that in case 1, you have a friend who understands that when you call him/her "bitch", you do not actually mean it in a hurtful manner. Moving that context to a public place like a restaurant and including a waitress you don't know in it crosses the line. The way you talk to your friends is not necessarily the way you should talk to everyone you encounter.

CLUB PISCOPO (DJP), Thursday, 11 August 2011 15:21 (fourteen years ago)

okay. well then yeah we are on the same page. for some reason I thought you were taking some weirdly nuanced pro-hair-splitting stand; will edit accordingly

swaguirre, the wrath of basedgod (bernard snowy), Thursday, 11 August 2011 15:30 (fourteen years ago)

ha that would be really odd since everything else I'd written up to that point was of the "this hair is not at all worth splitting" variety

CLUB PISCOPO (DJP), Thursday, 11 August 2011 15:32 (fourteen years ago)

you can sometimes use bookmarks to navigate through pages of long threads, so if you don't want to read the whole thing you can bookmark the first post under the break and page back from it

CLUB PISCOPO (DJP), Thursday, 11 August 2011 16:53 (fourteen years ago)

(haven't done enough playing around to figure out why it sometimes doesn't work, but sometimes it doesn't work)

CLUB PISCOPO (DJP), Thursday, 11 August 2011 16:53 (fourteen years ago)

ohhh, good call—much better than my previous workaround of "waiting for something to get quoted on the clusterfuck thread, then googling that post and reading the thread from there"

swaguirre, the wrath of basedgod (bernard snowy), Thursday, 11 August 2011 16:58 (fourteen years ago)

you can sometimes use bookmarks to navigate through pages of long threads

I've tried this technique and it is still quite often a pain in the ass.

kkvgz, Thursday, 11 August 2011 17:01 (fourteen years ago)

if you posted + then split, sometimes it's worth looking at 'my recent posts', reading a page, choosing 'permalink' on the last post and then reading another, &c.
