the language nerd in me always feels like, considering how many modern English speakers tend to speak in a dialect that drops or swallows the Rs at the end of countless words, it's kind of funny how there's just the ONE WORD that many of those people tend to think has a totally different meaning or connotation if it ends with an "a" instead of an "er," and it happens to be an extremely loaded and controversial word.

That would never be the case if it wasn't an el&c word. There's nothing coincidental about it.

... I believe that was some dude's point but maybe I am reading irony where none exists

(and also, if you want to go there, the "it's okay if you say it like a black person" subtext is something else I find massively infuriating and offensive about the whole "oh it's a totally different word" argument)

frogbs, your insistence on reentering and getting slapped is:
a : differing in some odd way from what is usual or normal b (1) : eccentric, unconventional (2) : mildly insane : touched c : absorbed or interested to an extreme or unreasonable degree
or "queer"
― livin in my own private Biden hole (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 9 August 2011 23:41 (fourteen years ago)
just wanna flex my OG cred, I was called "queer" on the PDX streets in '85, a fair bit before it was reclaimed, but it was weird: the feeling was like "queer? really? that's, like, a word from another time, nobody says that"

1. Grudging and petty in giving or spending.2. Meanly small; scanty or meager

it's so weird to me that there's an active poster who seems literally to get a boner from the idea of getting banned

we've had plenty of these, most of them were just beaten into line or came up in the pre-sb era.

okay there literally isn't a single thread on this board that posters can't turn into slash

which explains the existence of The Corner thread.

Bugger is a slang word used in the vernacular British English, Irish English, Australian English, Canadian English, New Zealand English, South African English, Caribbean English, Sri Lankan English and occasionally also in Malaysian English and Singaporean English, and rarely American English. It is derived from Anglo-Norman bougre, which has also given the term buggery, a term originally used to describe either anal intercourse by a man with a man or woman,[1] or sexual intercourse by either a man or a woman with an animal.[2] Today, the term is a general-purpose expletive, used to imply dissatisfaction, or used to describe someone or something whose behaviour is in some way displeasing, or sexual intercourse between a man and a woman, though in general Canadian, Australian, and New Zealand English the expletive force has largely disappeared; the word there now has a 'catch-all', almost humorous, 'Jeez' quality.
