love the way they all sit down at the end of In A Hole. andy kershaw looks about 12 when introducing them.

bobby g looks cool and is funny throughout, especially at end of the riot video.

and have just seen Teenage Lust video for the first time. was banned in uk and i always wondered how bad it could be. the answer is 'pretty bad'. there is a teenage stripper wandering around naked for half of it.

(dvds are all ntsc btw, which is less of a problem than it used to be - i only realised because it said so on the disc, dvd / tv played them fine)

Pretty surprised Jim liked Trixie's Big Red Motorbike tbh, didn't they used to slag off all the twee indie bands (apart from the Pastels, obviously)?

i am surprised at the pastels mention actually. not heard him mention them before. makes sense musically, chronologically and geographically but sometimes that stuff creates a rivalry.

Also, US ilxors who want the reissues should order through Amazon.co.uk - much cheaper and actually in stock. I ended up paying just under £10/$16 each delivered.

1st time I saw The Pastels they were opening for the JAMC. First time I saw the JAMC too actually.

Reissues are great as expected. The mastering on 'Psychocandy' is very different than the Rhino, but I haven't had a chance to listen to my old Blanco y Negro disc to see if it's the same.

Also, in the interviews there's a great line from Jim about an aborted 'Darklands' session that involved Curt Smith of Tears for Fears being brought in to try the intro to the title track and doing a bunch of slap bass.

it is kinda hilarious how much the pre-psychocandy demos sound like the dr mix and the remix record, which either douglas hart or bobby g openly admit to in the liner notes.

For me it's striking how much 'arrangement' is within "Up too high" off that disc. Basically, it's all there!

This is supposed to have an 'online book' according to the deluxe 3disc things.

I emailed the photographer named, and he said there'd been a delay for copyright reasons, but it's all sorted now so it'll soon be there.

The other day I was reading that John Moore is rejoining the Mary Chain.

Well, most of the old band have other jobs / countries to live in, and so on...

I dunno,. I'm ploughing through the DVDs in the deluxe sets (all of them!)

It's comfort food, really...

I ordered all the deluxe sets too! have received three so far (they have to cross the pond...) I haven't watched much of the DVDs yet, just a bit of the live sets on Psychocandy & it's hilarious how loud they are. I guess I knew that! But it's just a mess.

Many of the extras are things I already had on the Rhino box, but it's nice to have the BBC sessions with the albums themselves.

Mr. Moore is indeed in -- we ended up becoming Facebook friends by chance a couple of years back, passionate fellow but also a good sense of humor. He posted this photo the other week, before starting to talk about getting out all the guitars again...

I like how JAMC have settled into the "Cal Jam 2" phase of their career while still maintaining some sense of odd weirdness. The Reids are still obstinate but with a coating of the mannered gracefulness that comes from being a professional entertainer - those Bad Vibes could really be a Martin & Lewis act. I'm not Especially when William looks identical to King Buzzo.

On the plus side, now that they seem like they're giving a partial shit, they sound fantastic. I never would have expected them of all bands to be around in 2012, but it felt appropriate for an almost-summer Friday night at a horse race track in Inglewood. Lots of people dancing and singing along. Good times.

I think they played last night in LA. Anyone go?

I am only a casual listener, but I feel like the fact they're playing at First Avenue means I have to go. A classic band playing at a classic venue? And I feel like they could play somewhere bigger in town. 25 bucks...

They were complete shit last Thursday at the Fillmore. Big waste of money.
