so i'm always curious with these polls; any non fans/Prince-curious people out there discovered any tracks they really love so far?

yeah, been a fan for years but never really went deep into his/their catalog before and this has made me begin with that and i've been LOVING every damn minute. u got the look & lady cab driver are the only ones i voted for that made the list so far. guess i can rule out "sister" (my no. 1 or 2 iirc) placing since "when you were mine" hasn't surfaced yet, eh

y'know what? i concede that i simply don't get Dirty Mind as an album like other people do, but i really really don't think "Dirty Mind" is a great song, really not top 20 material. my only consolation is that "Controversy" is destined for the top 10.

I enjoy it as an album track: that slow, steady synth throb.

it's got a couple of my favorite songs he ever wrote. it's also got some filler vamps. but even the filler's got an energy to it that i love.

plus it's fucking filthy.

Dirty Mind was my #2. There is nothing I don't love about that song.

I think loving one and not the other is a little odd. Sometimes I want to hear one more than other, but I agree with Soto that "Dirty Mind" has a pretty great, warm, throbbing pulse.

"Controversy" is so present and so hooky, "Dirty Mind" is a little slip of a song by comparison

"Dirty Mind" is a little more "Minneapolis sound" too, I think, so I'm biased.

I also admire how Matt Fink plays with the speed at which he plays the synth hook.

Dirty Mind was one of my top votes. that throbbing beat plus those synths, and the bridge....all make that classic. great tune.

"controversy" is so good that it can even overcome "people call me rude / i wish we all were nude"

it's so perfect. i feel really terrible about cutting it from my ballot but consoled that it's a lock for top 10.

the 12'' version of Controversy when he recites John 3:16 is like so next level
