amy winehouse - C or D? [RIP 7/23/11]

It does feel a little weird though: before yesterday she was just this train wreck who made a couple of good albums a long time ago (neutral feeling, no real opinion, shit happens, it's her life, too bad but aren't lying awake worrying about her) but now she's dead, it's suddenly very sad because she'll never recover and make new and maybe even good albums for sure now and that's a waste and a shame.

It's like Schrödinger's cat: when she was still both destroying her life and able to recover, vs. the box has been opened and only one reality exists.

This interview kills me, especially when JR asks her if the record company have tried to mold her (i.e. into a more conventional pop star) and she responds: "Yeah, one of them tried to mold me into a big triangle shape, and I went “no!”"

Yeah, that Amy Winehouse TV interview was great, wasn't it? Compare and contrast that with the shambling mess of every subsequent TV appearance, and it's as good an advert for "don't do drugs, kids!" as you'll see.

In honor of Amy Winehouse I am going to have a salad at lunchtime, maybe an apple as well. It's been too long.

Amy went to the gym in the basement of the building i work in. Colleagues used to see her with full make-up / beehive pedalling languidly on the exercise bikes. Not sure how long she stuck at it but it's kind of a poignant reminder that there were points during her life when she was actively trying to improve her health situation.

Last night, M.I.A. posted a track called "27" on Soundcloud. She wrote on Twitter, "i recorded this song B4 vickileekx and never put it out. its a unfinished demo." She added, "R.I.P A.M.Y."

Amy Winehouse was found dead yesterday in her London home at age 27.

On the Soundcloud page, M.I.A. wrote that the track is "dedicated to all my friends that died at 27."

the bottle shrine thing is a bit creepy and i worry that even in 2011 people think this is somehow still a 'cool' thing to happen but then when an alcoholic relative of mine died we put a bottle and pack of fags in his coffin too :|

Reminds me of that Private Eye spoof about Jeffrey Bernard, he died a few days after Diana, something about crowds of grieving people leaving empty bottles of gin and vodka in an impromptu shrine to "the man they called the People's Pisshead"

its so weird when you think what she was like when frank came out - she was hilarious whenever i saw her being interviewed on tv or in the press. total contrast to what happened afterwards.

i cant be the only one wondering what the demos she did recently with ronson are like and if theyre fit for release.

i read somewher that she'd actually completed her 3rd album and and turned it in to the label. dunno how accurate that is. i'm sure we'll see it emerge soon, and i'm looking forward to that.

I'd be surprised if it amounts to much, sadly - her voice had been shot for years so far as I could tell.
