like I probably woulda lolled at it if I had seen it live, and I still basically "agree" with it, but watching that video after seeing all these ppl praising it made me legitimately uncomfortable

Aphex Twin... in my vagina... with the revolver? (bernard snowy), Monday, 22 August 2011 15:49 (fourteen years ago)

well then you kinda need to rethink yr priorities here imo - this is an unrepentant dickhead who can just soak up how much everybody hates his ass now, when he decides to grow up it'll stop

aero did you watch the video

Aphex Twin... in my vagina... with the revolver? (bernard snowy), Monday, 22 August 2011 15:51 (fourteen years ago)

do you really think those people were laughing out of sympathy for rihanna

Aphex Twin... in my vagina... with the revolver? (bernard snowy), Monday, 22 August 2011 15:51 (fourteen years ago)

because to me it kinda comes across as: Keith Olbermann - Dubya + Chris Brown + gallery of guffawing jackals

Aphex Twin... in my vagina... with the revolver? (bernard snowy), Monday, 22 August 2011 15:52 (fourteen years ago)

(I will admit that the gif is much 'better', and if I had seen it before watching the video I woulda been like "yeah right on!")

yeahhhhhh the laughing in the background makes it a pretty uncomfortable and the part about the female members of team breezy is problematic but that dude > chris brown

k3vin k., Monday, 22 August 2011 15:58 (fourteen years ago)

it's weirder to me that the split-screen initially gives the impression that there's two guys sat next to each other but communicating as if in two different places

(pedantry @ teenage twitter users in the clip above nagl)

sexual union prayerbook slam (schlump), Monday, 22 August 2011 15:58 (fourteen years ago)

yeah I watched the video. Chris Brown's a fucking joke so it's great that people laugh at him, the more the better.

pathos of the unwarranted encore (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Monday, 22 August 2011 16:00 (fourteen years ago)

xpost to kev: yeah, my objection is not at all "leave breevy alone!"—a dude on tumblr put it better than I could:

Kansas City Shuffle; Make a joke about an instance of domestic abuse (look left), and when people are getting angry about your tastelessness declare that the joke was actually an attempt to raise awareness and shame the attacker (hit right).

Aphex Twin... in my vagina... with the revolver? (bernard snowy), Monday, 22 August 2011 16:01 (fourteen years ago)

no i know i get you

k3vin k., Monday, 22 August 2011 16:02 (fourteen years ago)

yeah the meagre degree of creepiness is offset by the scornworthiness of the target. also, "a joke about domestic abuse" is an intentional mischaracterization of the dude's joke. dude's joke is "you're a person who hits women." the target of the joke is the domestic abuser - not the same as mocking domestic abuse.

pathos of the unwarranted encore (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Monday, 22 August 2011 16:05 (fourteen years ago)

I agree with you 100% that Chris Brown deserves far more scorn than he has thus far received from the media, and that *any* kind of criticism is better than the "pretend-it-didn't-happen, business-as-usual" attitude; and obviously a lot of the public feels that way, too, judging by the response to this meme. I'm just kinda bummed that our public discourse has degenerated to the point where it takes a clown to say these things.

Aphex Twin... in my vagina... with the revolver? (bernard snowy), Monday, 22 August 2011 16:11 (fourteen years ago)

i think the vid w/ laughing is uncomfortable, but aero's totally right about how the original joke should be interpreted ... ppl werent getting angry at his 'tastelessness' tumblr dude offtm

Gatsby was a success, in the end, wasn't he? (D-40), Monday, 22 August 2011 16:44 (fourteen years ago)

ftr I didn't realize that there was an actual video that went with that; my reaction is solely based off of the GIF

and tbh I did laugh when reading the GIF, in the sense of "HAHAHA YES SOMEONE IS CALLING CHRIS BROWN ON HIS SHIT IN ABOUT AS CRUEL A MANNER AS CAN BE DONE"

Rob Based and DJ EZ God (DJP), Monday, 22 August 2011 16:49 (fourteen years ago)

xpost I don't see how you can say no one was angry about the joke—otherwise where did the whole 'apology' conceit come from?

as far as I can tell, here's the timeline:

- Chris Brown tweets some dumb shit about planking
- comedian Andy Levy sees the opportunity for a good zinger and takes it
- TEAM BREEZY rallies to the defense of their imperiled hero; Brown, in a hilarious example of "the only insults I know are the ones people have used against me", calls Levy childish
- **HIGHLY SPECULATIVE** some Fox higher-up takes offense and asks Levy to apologize/retract his tweet? **HIGHLY SPECULATIVE**
- Levy doubles down w/ this (admittedly, pretty good) rant about the boneheaded obliviousness of Brown (duh) and his contingent of hardcore fans (double-duh)

Aphex Twin... in my vagina... with the revolver? (bernard snowy), Monday, 22 August 2011 17:08 (fourteen years ago)

but since we all agree that Chris Brown is awful, really the only thing that interests me about the whole affair is seeing whether or not people feel that being a Chris Brown fan/apologist automatically makes one awful as well

Aphex Twin... in my vagina... with the revolver? (bernard snowy), Monday, 22 August 2011 17:10 (fourteen years ago)

xposts yeah that's fair—it's like, as much as I enjoy Busta Rhymes's verse on "Look At Me Now" + the comeback it has ignited for him, I can't help wishing he and every other competent rapper contacted by the Breezy camp had gone "no, fuck you, I refuse to get on this track"

ya okay yr probably right about this... sorry, I don't mean to be so difficult; I just find it hard (maybe because of the Fox association?) to credit Levy with any motives beyond "I did it for the lolz", and I think the original tweet is much more ambiguous and potentially-offensive than the subsequent 'apology', so it's very easy to construct this narrative in which he is guilty of some kind of backpedaling or misdirection

Aphex Twin... in my vagina... with the revolver? (bernard snowy), Monday, 22 August 2011 17:34 (fourteen years ago)

It's p obvious even from the original tweet that he wasn't condoning domestic abuse.

Meat Loaf...in my vagina? (The Reverend), Monday, 22 August 2011 17:46 (fourteen years ago)

Fox News, like most major news outlets, is chock full of horrible douchebags; this does not automatically mean that every last thing anyone who ever appears on one of their shows has to say is nefariously wrong.

Rob Based and DJ EZ God (DJP), Monday, 22 August 2011 18:14 (fourteen years ago)

Team Breezy is easily the most ignorant and self-deluded pack of cretins on twitter.

that they have a rolling news ticker, however, means they have an outlet to make sure that every frame of their output is somehow objectionable, even if there's something placid going on mid-screen

sexual union prayerbook slam (schlump), Monday, 22 August 2011 18:28 (fourteen years ago)

argh no one is arguing that this dude was "condoning domestic abuse"; just that it is entirely possible for someone to make jokes on twitter about chris brown beating women while still being kind of a douchebag him/herself

alright, in a sort of a limited way, for an off-night (bernard snowy), Monday, 22 August 2011 19:28 (fourteen years ago)

I agree with bernard here, I mean obviously everyone hates Chris Brown - I get it - but Fox news dude was still a giant asshole and the video wasn't very funny

my own private kanyes west (The Brainwasher), Monday, 22 August 2011 19:31 (fourteen years ago)

I'm Team Aero on this one. No matter how douchey the messenger, anyone that publicly calls out Chris Brown for being the awful human being that he is is straight up hilarious to me.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Monday, 22 August 2011 19:34 (fourteen years ago)

really jon? like if some guy doing an interview with Chris Brown decided to go "hey Breezy, I gotta ask you something... I've been having some problems with my girl lately, and I was wondering how much it would cost to have you rough her up a bit for me"—obviously Chris Brown would get really angry/offended and probably storm out of the interview, and a lot of people would lol about it on the internet later; but would we really think that the guy asking the question was some kind of brave crusader riding for justice?

alright, in a sort of a limited way, for an off-night (bernard snowy), Monday, 22 August 2011 19:36 (fourteen years ago)

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Monday, 22 August 2011 19:40 (fourteen years ago)

Someone using a public soapbox to remind the world that Chris Brown is an asshole /= to an imagined face-to-face confrontation urging him to violence.
