Ok, I mean, healthy skepticism is appropriate, but still excited.

New Amerykah feels worlds away from Voodoo imo
― some dude, Saturday, 9 July 2011 01:44 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah, v different (although both brilliant) albums.

― i'm not a lawyer, but i play one on a messageboard (stevie), Tuesday, 2 August 2011 10:38 (fourteen years ago)
i didn't, i didn't know she was playing until about a day before and i was just too busy :(
― lex pretend, Tuesday, 2 August 2011 10:51 (fourteen years ago)
yeah, i had to be across town that night too. the show i saw was pretty sublime but still i felt a pang of regret knowing i was missing an erykah show.
really enjoying the gods illa blendtape but not sure what badu had to do with it, beyond some voice overs.
― i'm not a lawyer, but i play one on a messageboard (stevie), Tuesday, 2 August 2011 11:18 (fourteen years ago)
I'm sure they're friends of hers and it's just a way of upping the profile of the thing
― Number None, Tuesday, 2 August 2011 11:22 (fourteen years ago)
she's djing at les poisson rouge in nyc next month
― generous doler out of lollies (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 2 August 2011 20:18 (fourteen years ago)
presumably around the same time as rock the bells
she's doing something as Lo Down Loretta Brown here in SF in a few weeks at the Mezzanine, I think...? I won't be able to make it. also the flyer is terrible.
― Richard Nixon's Field of Warmth (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 2 August 2011 20:25 (fourteen years ago)
there's what sounds like a new badu/flylo track here, around 20:00 - http://www.gorillavsbear.net/2011/08/05/mp3-thundercat-shenanigans-pt-1-mixtape-mixed-by-flying-lotus/

The one after "Get Munny"? That's from Shafiq Husayn's album.
― third-generation stripper (Eric H.), Friday, 5 August 2011 18:28 (fourteen years ago)
(Great track, btw.)
ah, thanks. never checked out that record.
― hardcore oatmeal (Jordan), Friday, 5 August 2011 18:36 (fourteen years ago)
The vocalist sounds a bit like Badu but it's Noni Limar.
There's an alt mix of that album's "Major Heavy" in the mix, too.
Shafiq En' A-Free-Ka is one of my favorite albums of the last few years.
― A Chuck Person's Guide to Mark Aguirre (Andy K), Friday, 5 August 2011 19:34 (fourteen years ago)
Still sinking into it. It seems waaaaay denser than, for instance, Sa-Ra's last one.
― third-generation stripper (Eric H.), Friday, 5 August 2011 19:35 (fourteen years ago)
"Dust & Kisses" seems by far its most accessible track.
Temporary hijack. I don't think Erykah would mind (seriously beautiful video):

GQ: What's next thing for you? Erykah Badu: I'm recording an album right now, with [experimental music producer] Flying Lotus. I'm touring. But things are slowing down now 'cause my children are in school again. [Badu has three children: a son with Andre 3000; a daughter with rapper the D.O.C.; and a daughter with rapper Jay Electronica.] This is the time of year when we all nest in our little home in Dallas and cook breakfast and all those things we been doin' on tour, just in one place. I'm kind of a recluse when it comes to going outside.
GQ: How did you and Flying Lotus hook up? Erykah Badu: We were talking to each other on MySpace years ago when MySpace was a thing. Social networking was how we hooked up. I told him I'd be in L.A. and he came over to Steve Wilson's house—Stevie is a psychedelic guitar player, a great musician. If both of our worlds can meet and we feel good about it, it's going to be something dope.

Haha, I'm guessing this is a case of similar names here, but that would be kind of awesome Porcupine Tree guitarist Steven Wilson was involved in this too.

Interview also says that her next album comes out 4th Quarter 2012 - so we should probably expect it by February 2013.

they're probably regretting printing the sleeve on such oil-resistant card though, right

the original recorded version has Yasiin Bey/Mos Def on it also.

i wonder what her next record is. like the flying lotus one i guess, sooner than loretta brown? & when the Cannabinoids record is.
xp oh i just meant that letterman holds up a grossly fingerprint smudged lp sleeve

this whole setup is super lame, but she sounds great: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWKCUU1SY4s
― 40oz of tears (Jordan), Friday, 17 February 2012 22:02 (fourteen years ago)
Are the Cannabinoids just her back up band? Or is there like an ALBUM she is specifically making with them?
― Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Friday, 17 February 2012 22:21 (fourteen years ago)
reviews from the shows say that they're playing remodelled erykah jams & a bunch of their own stuff. some stuff that erykah does sorta non-authorially doesn't totally do it for me even though it ticks a lot of boxes, like the letterman thing above or the recent blue note thing, which was super nice but just didn't have the focus of her records. like hearing that she's in a group w/tony allen & damon albarn makes me feel like it'll be some nice sounding record that doesn't do anything for me, but who knows, i'm maybe just less into her guest spots than some ppl
