― Dominique, Wednesday, July 6, 2011 8:03 PM (3 hours ago)
omg does this mean i finally get to meet dominique?! psyched!!
yeah i'm down for whatever nonsense you guys want to do. i'm in town for two weeks, free for most of it, though i'll be busy with my friend's wedding for a day or two (big gay wedding in golden gate park, mystical exchanging of rocks and sticks and vows and whatnot)
― geeta, Wednesday, 6 July 2011 23:34 (fourteen years ago)
I chickened out of the last FAP but might brave it this time, unless there is nuclear-level sarcastic humour being unleashed :)
― kinder, Wednesday, 6 July 2011 23:43 (fourteen years ago)
i'm gonna see the coathangers on the 24th @ hemlok. would like to meet geeta, too; really liked your eno novellette
― Marquis de Sade (outdoor_miner), Thursday, 7 July 2011 00:00 (fourteen years ago)
aw, glad you liked it.
i'll be in LA this week, if anyone knows of anything happening over there.

haha i heard about it--sounds like a disaster
i'll probably stay in venice all weekend, with my bicycle
― geeta, Friday, 8 July 2011 18:34 (fourteen years ago)
this place is fucking epic http://thetastingkitchen.com/
― jaxon, Friday, 8 July 2011 18:55 (fourteen years ago)
looks good, but good grief: 18 bucks for a sidecar, 20 bucks for a manhattan?!
i think this may be too rich for my blood, unless i was going out on a date with an investment banker or something
― geeta, Friday, 8 July 2011 19:42 (fourteen years ago)
Maybe you could pick up an investment banker at the bar?
― Virginia Plain, Friday, 8 July 2011 20:06 (fourteen years ago)
ha ha, there's an idea!
alternatively, i could go there for brunch (though the brunch menu looks ridiculous as well--do people in LA really pay $25 for half a lobster, for brunch?! i'm too new england for this--the last time i was up in maine, lobster was like three bucks a pound)
― geeta, Friday, 8 July 2011 20:18 (fourteen years ago)
uh yeah lobster is more expensive here
― a man is only a guy (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 8 July 2011 20:21 (fourteen years ago)
alternately you can probably find a kfc or mcdonalds close by
― jaxon, Friday, 8 July 2011 20:26 (fourteen years ago)
ha ha! i think those are banned on abbot-kinney: but i don't eat meat anyhow
― geeta, Friday, 8 July 2011 20:27 (fourteen years ago)
Yes, Maine lobsters are more expensive outside of Maine, crazy I know.
Spiny lobsters (no claws, just long antennae) are cheaper though.
$18-20 cocktails can gtfo imho.
― it's a meme i made and i like (Steve Shasta), Friday, 8 July 2011 22:45 (fourteen years ago)
tru, but they have 11-14$ cocktails that look pretty good. i dunno. i don't mind paying a bit more for something i know is gonna be good. ymmv
― jaxon, Friday, 8 July 2011 22:51 (fourteen years ago)
arents you supposed to eat dungeness crab when in SF anyway?
― phil-two, Friday, 8 July 2011 22:51 (fourteen years ago)
someone posted this comprehensive gig guide in another similar thread http://www.foopee.com/punk/the-list/by-date.0.html
― du mein bestie (micarl), Friday, 8 July 2011 22:54 (fourteen years ago)
(local) dungeness crab season is late winter/early spring.
― it's a meme i made and i like (Steve Shasta), Friday, 8 July 2011 22:55 (fourteen years ago)
i love what this thread has become
tru, but they have 11-14$ cocktails that look pretty good. i dunno.
i know: i'll get my younger brother (the attorney) to take me for drinks at this joint
music writers totally need corporate sponsors
― geeta, Friday, 8 July 2011 23:34 (fourteen years ago)
I'm sure you can find a liquor store close by that sells $1.49 40s and (vegetarian) potato chips or something
― jaxon, Friday, 8 July 2011 23:52 (fourteen years ago)
jeez jaxon, lighten up! I like fancy drinks as much as the next person, next time you're in Boston I should introduce you to my collection of single malt scotches
I'm on an Amtrak to NYC, watching 'Decoder' (1984) on a 3-inch screen....posting to ILM is hard, & this movie is melting my brain
― geeta, Saturday, 9 July 2011 00:16 (fourteen years ago)
i am so light, i am practically floating
― jaxon, Saturday, 9 July 2011 00:33 (fourteen years ago)
I think my priorities are all screwed up, because I wouldn't look twice at a $25 half pounder, nor a $20 cocktail. . . . Some $20 cocktails are really good . . . like at Bemelman's Bar . . . and they are as strong and lasting as at least two or three regular cocktails. . . .
― Virginia Plain, Saturday, 9 July 2011 00:40 (fourteen years ago)
i am down for a FAP, but i know that most of you think i'm a scumfuck (perhaps rightly so), so whatever.
that said, $18-20 for a cocktail is super gross. but maybe that's just me right now— i regularly buy very expensive beer.

I saw a dead body lying in the panhandle today. A friend had seen him half on a park bench/half off around 10:45am. When I passed by around 11:55am, I saw the police and paramedics putting him into the yellow body bag and getting zipped up.

a friend of mine found a dead body outside her apartment in the tenderloin about 10 years ago; she called the cops and they didn't come for four hours!
― akm, Saturday, 9 July 2011 14:22 (fourteen years ago)
I found a dead drifter by my place when I lived on Market. Great times!

ya know what i miss about san francisco? walking around. it's a walking kinda city, you can walk from one end to the other in like an hour and a half. probably without getting mugged either. plus, it never gets too hot.
i always skipped the bands - looking at this thread it doesn't look like anythings changed w/regards to live acts in sf (somehow nothing ever really made me go DAMN! I MUST GO SEE THAT BAND TONIHGT!!!!11!!!!) i always just went to burning man sorta functions instead, the anon salon, santacon, anything off the laughingsquid mailing list. or raves in the redwoods or whatever. do they still throw raves in the redwoods near sf?
― messiahwannabe, Tuesday, 19 July 2011 16:34 (fourteen years ago)
>do they still throw raves in the redwoods near sf?

lol @ the idea of anything That Hideous Strength participates in being considered a "rave"
― i hate it when rats eat my bushels (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 19 July 2011 17:38 (fourteen years ago)
santacon was always a good time, the trip to LA was insane, a memory I will always treasure
>lol @ the idea of anything That Hideous Strength participates in being considered a "rave"
Amnesia is clearly not the Redwoods, and of course nothing on that bill has anything to do with rave. It's a noise show.
― Milton Parker, Tuesday, 19 July 2011 17:44 (fourteen years ago)
I know what it is, I am tight bros w/Ben I was just lol'ing at the implied connection

I was on one of those buses, yes! verrrrrrry hammered. I have a videotape to prove it!
― i hate it when rats eat my bushels (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 19 July 2011 18:22 (fourteen years ago)
speaking of ben tinker, his band white pee is playing on a bill w/the "gruesome energy" trio (me, daevid allen/citay's warren huegel and evangelista/dead science's nick tamburro) next tuesday 7/26 also at amnesia. kind of boadrums-y synth noise?
― Dominique, Tuesday, 19 July 2011 18:22 (fourteen years ago)
cool! damn, i'd like to see that video - santacon was pretty much the BEST PARTY EVER
― messiahwannabe, Tuesday, 19 July 2011 18:23 (fourteen years ago)
this was... 1997? yes. I should see about digitizing that VHS, lemme ask my fellow Santa

in lieu of a 'rehearsal dinner,' my pals who are getting married tomorrow are having everyone come to a cheap mexican place to drink tequila
if you'd like to join us, we'll be at don ramon's (11th near folsom) starting around 8, upstairs.
would be great to meet you all!
― geeta, Friday, 22 July 2011 18:41 (fourteen years ago)
whoa, just DJ'd next door to that last night! might be able to make it late there, but there is also a good show tonight at the Lab (capp @ 16th), if you and your friends felt like going over a few blocks on the town
