what's an aspie rube?

Iago Galdston, Monday, 4 July 2011 19:07 (fourteen years ago)

The exact opposite of someone wanting to throw a spontaneous Madonna poll...

Last Friday Night (G.T.F.O.) (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 4 July 2011 23:09 (fourteen years ago)

i thought it was some sort of asperger's related slur :(

Iago Galdston, Monday, 4 July 2011 23:41 (fourteen years ago)

Oh, it is.

Alpaca Lips (Johnny Fever), Monday, 4 July 2011 23:44 (fourteen years ago)

:)

Iago Galdston, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 00:11 (fourteen years ago)

Aspie
An aspie is one who has Asperger's Syndrome, which is believed to be part of the autism spectrum. Aspies, while being quite gifted verbally, have social, emotional, and sensory integration difficulties, among others. Aspie is an affectionate term, and is not meant as a put down.
My son is an aspie, so he's not so great at making idle chit chat at parties, or even at being in crowds, but he can get us home from anywhere. He says he just consults the map in his brain.

That's the best balls has got? Practically a compliment!

Iago Galdston, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 00:13 (fourteen years ago)

So what's the 'rube' bit about then?

Mark G, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 00:13 (fourteen years ago)

1. pet shop boys - billy dods (results coming later today)
2. Beatles - Mark G (voting in progress)

Voting in progress on your Beatles poll? i didn't see that! better go find it...

Iago Galdston, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 00:18 (fourteen years ago)

Official ILX Artist Tracks Poll : The Beatles (Next up: Prince)

Josef K-Doe (WmC), Tuesday, 5 July 2011 00:21 (fourteen years ago)

thanks

Iago Galdston, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 00:23 (fourteen years ago)

I feel bad for balls. Seemed legitimately unaware of this thread as well as whether it was an actual authority over people being allowed to start a ballot poll. He didn't take Karen seriously off the bat and his thread gets locked pretty quick. Sucks if he truly was innocently trying to start the ballot for fun. Just giving the guy(?) a little sympathy is all. :)

Wacky Way Lounge (Evan), Tuesday, 5 July 2011 06:09 (fourteen years ago)

yeah, righto.

Mark G, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 06:42 (fourteen years ago)

He didn't seem legitimately unaware. Since the opening posts of the locked madonna poll thread it seemed pretty clear he didn't give a fuck and that he was only doing it to mock this sort of polls (?) Also he reposted the thread twice or thrice after it got locked but they got deleted by an admin.

Wtf would anyone do that for? That's a bit sad.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 07:55 (fourteen years ago)

With Moka on that this was totally a trolling operation.

what? this did not "seem pretty clear" to me at all. balls started an 80s ballot poll years ago (tho infamously never posted the results), he's not mocking them.

he might not have known that this thread existed but FFS the whole 'i have a real life and am spontaneous and you are sexist aspie rubes' bullshit is old and tired and unpleasant - good intentions ab initio don't excuse being a dick.

do the hypnic jerk (c sharp major), Tuesday, 5 July 2011 08:40 (fourteen years ago)

wasn't Karen down for doing this after the prince poll or has the schedule changed?

― prolego, lunes 4 de julio de 2011 14:59

it's happening now

Post-Manpat Music (dog latin), Tuesday, 5 July 2011 10:41 (fourteen years ago)

Ah, I've just twigged who balls is.

and this is evidence for the defense?

Mark G, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 11:19 (fourteen years ago)

the whole 'i have a real life and am spontaneous and you are sexist aspie rubes' bullshit is old and tired and true

SB OK (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 5 July 2011 11:20 (fourteen years ago)

ugh sorry but one dude who wants to run a ballot poll claiming he is less of an aspie rube than other people who want to run ballot polls (and have successfully socialised with others to work out an order) = haha fuck off

do the hypnic jerk (c sharp major), Tuesday, 5 July 2011 11:28 (fourteen years ago)

xp It's rendered less true by being posted on a message board tbh

I took this as "schedule? what? anyway..." but I just tend to give the benefit of the doubt to people.

Wacky Way Lounge (Evan), Tuesday, 5 July 2011 13:17 (fourteen years ago)

But I don't know anything about the deleted threads either, so I don't have all the info.

Wacky Way Lounge (Evan), Tuesday, 5 July 2011 13:21 (fourteen years ago)

just a bit of fun, so let's be cool

hoovers like jagger (some dude), Tuesday, 5 July 2011 13:32 (fourteen years ago)

can i be put down for joni mitchell at the end of the current list?

Mordy, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 13:33 (fourteen years ago)

I guess that read as upset? It isn't meant to sound comeback-y or anything, just in case anyone thought so.

Wacky Way Lounge (Evan), Tuesday, 5 July 2011 13:34 (fourteen years ago)

also, is there a Guide to Running These Polls somewhere? like the best way to tabulate votes, etc?

Mordy, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 13:34 (fourteen years ago)

Does Joni Mitchell have a big enough songbook to do a successful poll? I'm not arguing, just asking.

Josef K-Doe (WmC), Tuesday, 5 July 2011 13:39 (fourteen years ago)

Yay, Joni! I'd LOVE to see her work polled. And she has quite a few (7-8?) albums, doesn't she? I am sure we could pick 20 songs from that and not end up with the album 'Hits'..

Mordy: this might help!
Alright, I made an excel file that should be useful, hopefully.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZQBPGXI6

Basically it's got a sheet where you dump in the songs and their ranks, and a formula that compares rank to point value which is listed on a separate sheet. Then there are suggestions and examples for making a pivot table to corral the data, or a suggestion for doing it manually.

I hope it's useful! /nerd

Yes, absolutely.

Mordy, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 13:50 (fourteen years ago)

(she has about 20 albums)

Mordy, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 13:51 (fourteen years ago)

Mordy - just put the deadline in the title, make the initial post clear and short so people don't have to work hard to find out what to do, and bump it a lot.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 13:52 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, they've all had fairly standard intros, with a bit of advice where things can be regarded as 'different' (e.g. Remixes, different versions, 'productions' with different artist credits but same 'production' ethic, etc..)

KDT has requested that she be taken off the list as the coordinator of the Madonna and Aphex Twin polls. If anyone wants to do either of those in their current spots in the order, please step up.

Note: this thread is for coordinating the order and timing of ILM ballot polls. No meta, please.

Josef K-Doe (WmC), Wednesday, 6 July 2011 16:00 (fourteen years ago)

I'd love to do the Aphex poll, but like I say, I'd probably get sacked from work if I did.

Post-Manpat Music (dog latin), Wednesday, 6 July 2011 16:05 (fourteen years ago)

What a baby.

I don't want to do either of those artists, but if noone else does either I could fill in week 4 to keep the schedule on track.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 6 July 2011 16:31 (fourteen years ago)

What artist would you want to run the poll for? I'm happy to move Zep up to the spot after Prince.

Josef K-Doe (WmC), Wednesday, 6 July 2011 17:26 (fourteen years ago)

I'll do U2. I've been giving them some play recently, best take advantage before I'm sick of them.

Also, Beatles-Prince-Zep is quite a run of elite-of-the-elite acts, U2 would break that up a bit in a way that Bowie or Fleetwood Mac wouldn't. (slight intended, but it's only a slight slight)

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 6 July 2011 17:51 (fourteen years ago)

As much as I'd like to jump Zeppelin to #4, I kind of agree with you.

1. pet shop boys - billy dods (results rollout in progress)
2. Beatles - Mark G (voting in progress)
3. Prince - Jamie_ATP
4. U2 - Ismael Klata
5. Led Zeppelin - WmC
6. Guided By Voices - Johnny Fever
7. Kate Bush - Le Bateau Ivre
8. beach boys - iatee
9. Pulp - Finefinemusic
10. "Producers" - Shakey Mo Collier
11. Joni Mitchell - Mordy

any objections?

Josef K-Doe (WmC), Wednesday, 6 July 2011 18:05 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, everyone voting every week is too much.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 6 July 2011 18:07 (fourteen years ago)

I'll be glad when Zep and GBV roll around and I can take a break from working out ballots.

Strictly vote-splitting (DL), Wednesday, 6 July 2011 18:08 (fourteen years ago)

FFS - that's yeah as in 'we are of one mind', not as in 'I have an objection'. I'll shut up now.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 6 July 2011 18:09 (fourteen years ago)

by the time my turn rolls around I assume I will have completely forgotten about this
