fyi i am not gay for jimmy, grady, joe, or anyone, except my girlfriend, and sort of peter gabriel

beyonc'e (max), Thursday, 18 December 2008 02:29 (seventeen years ago)

not sure 'bout the best way to distribute this stuff... especially since i just waffles'd it.

mikebee would surely kill me if i were to pull what i did with that d. lissvik album

psychgawsple, Thursday, 18 December 2008 02:37 (seventeen years ago)

it's not as though i can stop someone from pm/emailing me though, ;)

psychgawsple, Thursday, 18 December 2008 02:39 (seventeen years ago)

The Tensnake remixes of the Embassy are fanastic, and I was pretty surprised at how much I dug the original version, too.

mr. anephric (the anephric project), Thursday, 18 December 2008 04:30 (seventeen years ago)

while we're on the subject of amazing new 12"s, can i just say BLACKBELT ANDERSEN ON CLAREMONT 56 = OMFG IT'S GORGEOUS.

again, it's on sanfran's blog.

psychgawsple, Thursday, 18 December 2008 05:29 (seventeen years ago)

pretty much everything Claremont 56 is wicked at the moment. the most recent ones 'the delivery man' and the 7" are both fantastic, as is the blackbelt andersen and the super ashra-y one with the weird name. just got Andersen full-length on Full Pupp, will report on that one as soon as i get a chance to listen...

xpost - why would i be upset? do what you gotta do mang.

fyi the embassy 12" is in stock now at amoeba ;)

mikebee (BATTAGS), Thursday, 18 December 2008 06:37 (seventeen years ago)

i gotta say i passed on it, to be honest...and i've liked some tensnake stuff in the past.

mikebee (BATTAGS), Thursday, 18 December 2008 06:38 (seventeen years ago)

i downloaded a bunch of old-school baleric stuff at the suggestion of this thread. listened to it in my car, and was like, "i don't get it"

then i listened to the same playlist on vacation, sitting in the sun, looking out on the beach, and it all made so much more sense.

messiahwannabe, Thursday, 18 December 2008 07:25 (seventeen years ago)

B-)

♪☺♫☻ (gr8080), Thursday, 18 December 2008 07:28 (seventeen years ago)

i can't see anymore record stores around here go out of business. not like amoeba is struggling, but jeez it's been like 3-4 good ones in the last year.

that being said, http://rapidshare.com/files/174474223/The_Embassy-Lurking-_PVS-0011_-Vinyl-2008-OBC.zip.html

psychgawsple, Thursday, 18 December 2008 08:14 (seventeen years ago)

gracias! also on Blackbelt Andersen, I picked up the Kuk Av Stal 12" which is one of my favorite tracks of the year.

also awesome, Kuk Av Stal = Cock Of Steel in Norwegian

do you have any of these in stock Mike? i would most certainly be interested, i'll see if i can stop by later today

not sure 'bout the best way to distribute this stuff

rapidsharing stuff on ilm is kinda frowned upon but uh ... ahem *cough cough*

dmr, Thursday, 18 December 2008 18:29 (seventeen years ago)

safer place to post things

dmr, Thursday, 18 December 2008 18:30 (seventeen years ago)

'kuk av stal' is fucking amazing, one of my tunes of the year! sanfrandisco (your name escapes me, sorry), i'll hold onto whatever we've got in stock for you today. give me a call at the shop 415.831.1200. the blackbelt andersen LP won't be out for a month or so, a few weeks at least.

i hadn't realized a new y s i thread popped up after the smackdown a few years ago...

mikebee (BATTAGS), Thursday, 18 December 2008 21:46 (seventeen years ago)

thanks for the heads up dmr, i am a relative noob

^ This is brilliant.

Tim F, Thursday, 18 December 2008 22:09 (seventeen years ago)

ah yeah that Soft Rocks is good! I listened, liked, and then put it back to get something else .... probably get it next time I see it. are their older ones real hard to find? I've only got Disco Power Play III which I've played the hell out of

dmr, Thursday, 18 December 2008 22:29 (seventeen years ago)

the super ashra-y one with the weird name

do you mean the "icasol" 12" by ongou? with the idjut boys edit on it? cause if so, YES. it is easily one of my tracks of the year.

i picked up that umut/slowdown 12" too. as with claremont 56, have soft rocks disappointed at all this year? all of the mixes and edits they've been putting out are quite cosmic and quite good. i even prefer their mix of "love love love" over all others, including the one from aeroplane. maybe it's just the presence of kathy diamond that does it for me...

psychgawsple, Thursday, 18 December 2008 22:31 (seventeen years ago)

err, "ongou" by icasol, rather

psychgawsple, Thursday, 18 December 2008 22:33 (seventeen years ago)

three weeks pass...

straight out of Brooklyn...HOLY GHOST!

Holy Ghost
http://www.myspace.com/holyghostnyc
listen to

>>> the deep End HG Remix

what a track 8 minutes of pure brilliance... deep chunky cosmic space grooves, euphoric synth solos, moody atmospheric New Order hooky basslines

will holy ghost release a studio album in 2009?

mungolian jet set, aeroplane, holy ghost, the return of Andrew Weatherall.... what are the other balearic artists to look out for in 2009?

djmartian, Thursday, 8 January 2009 20:44 (seventeen years ago)

jeez not everything is balearic, guy

opinions4usic (deej), Thursday, 8 January 2009 20:46 (seventeen years ago)

ha. yeah. i'm pretty sure holy ghost aren't balearic

(jaxon) ( .) ( .) (jaxon), Thursday, 8 January 2009 22:26 (seventeen years ago)

aww, but does it really hurt anyone if he thinks that?

personally i am really hoping for more from västkustska ryggdunkarsällskapet and tiedye

all-seeing eye of horus (psychgawsple), Thursday, 8 January 2009 23:20 (seventeen years ago)

anyone heard this?

suggest banana (braveclub), Friday, 16 January 2009 11:17 (seventeen years ago)

Not at all balearic. It's more homejob synth, lo-fi acid, "beatbox grot and wobbly end-of-the-pier organ", all sequenced as a single 60 min track.

It also includes a "wow-and-fluttering synth-pop cover of “It Never Rains in Southern California”".

the Enrique who acts like some kind of good taste gestapo (Raw Patrick), Friday, 16 January 2009 11:25 (seventeen years ago)

ok, sold!

suggest banana (braveclub), Friday, 16 January 2009 11:36 (seventeen years ago)

this is a new band in my town called Moonstone

I think they may be balearic, but I'm not sure

they are cool though

crackers is biters (M@tt He1ges0n), Thursday, 22 January 2009 23:54 (seventeen years ago)

(xpost) don't forget that an important component of the original balearic sound was the occasional industrial or dark-wave track thrown in for good measure (throbbing gristle, cabaret voltaire, belgian synth wave bands, etc). shit wasn't just beaches and yacht rock, it also had that exploratory element of weirdness going on.

currently listening to it for the first time the whole way through, but parlour's mix of frak tunes on information sounds great so far. and it definitely fits on the side of the balearic spectrum i mentioned above.

all-seeing eye of horus (psychgawsple), Friday, 23 January 2009 09:29 (seventeen years ago)

^w/r/t Parlour. I keep forgetting to play it more often as the cd gets lost in the piles of other cd's because of its slim paper packaging.
(One major quibble I have with Information though is that they (or whoever ships for them) don't know how to package vinyl. The covers came out shit both time I ordered (folded around the vinyl so to speak)...)

willem, Friday, 23 January 2009 10:04 (seventeen years ago)

^^^ so annoyingly true. my d lissvik was torn upon arrival :(

er, second to last song

(jaxon) ( .) ( .) (jaxon), Friday, 23 January 2009 18:43 (seventeen years ago)

Hans Appelqvist is awesome, I bought Sifantin Och Mörkret after hearing a song of his on (if I remember correctly) a Wire Tapper cd. Not balearic though, but quirky songwriter/sample songs with lots of detail. Artwork is by the guy who also does visuals/videos for the Knife.

willem, Friday, 23 January 2009 19:51 (seventeen years ago)

Hey, is anybody going to see Lindstrom in Chicago tonight? I've never seen him before so I wanna check it.

stingy, Friday, 30 January 2009 21:54 (seventeen years ago)

smartbar + lindstrom + cold winter nite sounds so dope. jealous.

gr8080, Friday, 30 January 2009 23:08 (seventeen years ago)

i saw him last night

max, Friday, 30 January 2009 23:53 (seventeen years ago)

you should go, just dont expect it to be a really dance-y set

max, Friday, 30 January 2009 23:53 (seventeen years ago)

yeah i'm planning to go, even though it's 11 degrees currently. was he just playing records or did he have actual synths when you saw him?

stingy, Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:11 (seventeen years ago)

lol he was playing his laptop

max, Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:11 (seventeen years ago)

hes not djing--he does a set of his own shit. i recommend smokin a fat doob.

max, Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:12 (seventeen years ago)

o shit. i'm going tomorrow night. gtk

(jaxon) ( .) ( .) (jaxon), Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:19 (seventeen years ago)

yeah tbh we were a little disappointed since we were expecting him to be djing a dance set, but hes really just doing a laptop show. im sure i would have liked it more if i had known thats what it was, but as it was i was a little :(

max, Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:31 (seventeen years ago)

yeah but didnt he warn u in the interview

gr8080, Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:33 (seventeen years ago)

i didnt heed the signs

max, Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:38 (seventeen years ago)

i don't know if anyone could be into dancing in these temperatures

stingy, Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:43 (seventeen years ago)

yeah i would rather see woolfy's live band set tomorrow here in sf than lindstrom with a laptop

all-seeing eye of horus (psychgawsple), Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:45 (seventeen years ago)

i assume lindstrom was playing where you go and some other stuff? i guess i want to make sure this is going to be worth my while because it is really freakin cold outside and i don't have a car. i'm fine with it being chill/not dancey but if it's just like listening to the album on a better sound system then that's not as appealing. thanks for the info max

stingy, Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:54 (seventeen years ago)

psychawsple, they are across the street from each other
