I don't like the name so much compared to the previous 2 iterations of this concept but the interface is def the slickest so far. Actually really reminds me of early 00's chatrooms... nostalgia or something.

kelpolaris, Friday, 1 July 2011 17:22 (fourteen years ago)

Come visit - we're having fun in there.

EZ Snappin, Friday, 1 July 2011 19:11 (fourteen years ago)

I could really see this concept evolve into something brilliant, with some more features, for instance the ability to book 30 or 60 minute slots for 'radio show' like stuff, include mic support for dj'ing (or stand up comedy), etc. Some kind of modding/banning/voting system would be required then tho, maybe like "more than 75% of the listeners hate yr set -> kick". Or something.

Siegbran, Friday, 1 July 2011 20:14 (fourteen years ago)

Checked in earlier - heard some amazing stuff. Thanks!

brio, Friday, 1 July 2011 20:14 (fourteen years ago)

xp - if it isnt broke dont fix it.

jumpskins, Friday, 1 July 2011 21:46 (fourteen years ago)

with tight community moderation, a rating system, and the ability to stream without having to be in the chat room, i could see this being an internet radio alternative. are there room operators with mod privileges to ban trolls who queue up inappropriate stuff, or people who consistently play glitchy mp3s? I have zero interest in chatting on the internet, but wouldn't mind bookmarking a few consistently good rooms to listen to as background music or whatever.

a+ jazz symposium this afternoon. though i still had some trouble with the player stopping at random, having to refresh the page every few minutes. maybe chrome isn't optimal for this after all.

plax (ico), Sunday, 3 July 2011 08:53 (fourteen years ago)

It's been fine with me about bit rate - I've uploaded plenty of 320s - but you can't upload anything over 20mb.

mike t-diva, Sunday, 3 July 2011 09:03 (fourteen years ago)

Quite a few occurrences last night of songs stopping half the way through, though. Thinking there might be a server glitch with vbr or something presently. They're generally good about fixing problems quickly once they know about them.

You get nothing for a pair, not in this game (snoball), Monday, 4 July 2011 11:08 (fourteen years ago)

Many listeners at the moment, but there should be more uploaders too.

Tuomas, Monday, 4 July 2011 13:51 (fourteen years ago)

Whenever I see at least an hour's worth of queue ahead of me (which is always) I say fuckit, y'all'll just have to do without my brilliant choices.

Josef K-Doe (WmC), Monday, 4 July 2011 14:24 (fourteen years ago)

I agree this is a problem...allowing everyone to upload five tracks each doesn't work well with more than a couple of users.

Samantha Mumbahton (seandalai), Monday, 4 July 2011 14:27 (fourteen years ago)

Hmm, I'll gladly remove some of my tunes from the queue if that means more people will upload theur tunes.

Tuomas, Monday, 4 July 2011 14:27 (fourteen years ago)

I'm at work so not available for Outloudage anyway...btw my comment wasn't aimed at anyone in particular, I've maxed out the queue myself on numerous occasions.

Samantha Mumbahton (seandalai), Monday, 4 July 2011 14:30 (fourteen years ago)

The reason I put the max amount was because few others seemed to be uploading, but maybe they didn't want to upload because of so many tunes in the queue? Oh no, it's a vicious circle!

Tuomas, Monday, 4 July 2011 14:32 (fourteen years ago)

a bit of restraint and turn-taking and not queueing anything when there's more than half a dozen already up ought to fix that. again not pointing a finger cos i've shoved plenty of tracks up.

SB OK (Noodle Vague), Monday, 4 July 2011 15:39 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah I think we can place our faith in self-regulation.

Samantha Mumbahton (seandalai), Monday, 4 July 2011 15:41 (fourteen years ago)

I'm also liable to queue up drones, horrible noises and/or insect music, stuff I figure might not go over too well.

Josef K-Doe (WmC), Monday, 4 July 2011 15:43 (fourteen years ago)

people cd maybe delete anything they've queued if they're gonna leave the room. wouldn't want to have rules about what kind of things people shd play but obv i wouldn't queue up 5 looooong Merzbow tracks and then fuck off cos that wd be a bit doltish imo

SB OK (Noodle Vague), Monday, 4 July 2011 15:53 (fourteen years ago)

Okay, we decided that tonight's theme is SPACE! Log in to Outloud and get your cosmic kicks!

emil.y, Sunday, 1 July 2012 16:17 (thirteen years ago)

Me and crüt are playing around with it right now, if anyone wants to join in.

emil.y, Sunday, 1 July 2012 16:32 (thirteen years ago)

what's the "turntable" thing you can load from?

contenderizer, Sunday, 1 July 2012 16:34 (thirteen years ago)

nm, i'll google it

contenderizer, Sunday, 1 July 2012 16:34 (thirteen years ago)

anyway, my favorite thing about outloud was that you could load from your own files, you didn't have to search on this or that site. this loses that, but the ability to share videos is nice.

contenderizer, Sunday, 1 July 2012 16:37 (thirteen years ago)

Oh yeah, I miss that ability, totally. This is a different thing, but seeing as we no longer have outloud, it's the best we've got.

emil.y, Sunday, 1 July 2012 16:40 (thirteen years ago)

Still no word from Michael on outloud yet, btw. It's the weekend, though...maybe he's not on fb at the weekend.

Second call for Sunday afternoon rock party?

Hamster of Legend (J3ff T.), Sunday, 1 July 2012 23:11 (thirteen years ago)

alright, here's the word from Michael:

hey dude. i know, i'm sorry

we're bummed too, but the reality of it is that we recently started getting letters and phone calls from BMI, SESAC, and ASCAP (the music licensing agencies) asking for money to secure licensing, since continuing to operate the site requires broadcast licenses from each agency. way more money than we are capable of coughing up right now, sadly. so at the risk of also getting legal threats for not paying up, we had to take it down for now until we figure something out. i'd like to bring the site back in some fashion, maybe something password resicted or invite only, but i'm not clear on if that would protect us legally either - we'll have to see.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 2 July 2012 20:16 (thirteen years ago)

:( bye outloud, it was fun.

Hamster of Legend (J3ff T.), Wednesday, 4 July 2012 02:42 (thirteen years ago)

What about a new Plug thread, and an "RIP" + lockage for this one?

Neil Jung (WmC), Wednesday, 4 July 2012 02:57 (thirteen years ago)

I wouldn't lock this thread, but yeah, new one for plug and an RIP in the title would be good.

emil.y, Wednesday, 4 July 2012 03:32 (thirteen years ago)

plug is pretty nice!
