Is there any way to do a hard-rock cover of Sweet Jane that is more than serviceable?

Is there any way for a person to refrain from doing a hard-rock cover of Sweet Jane?
― Ktulu says, I've come to hate my body (wk), Tuesday, 28 June 2011 21:02 (fifteen years ago)
by playing a hard rock cover of "I Love You Suzanne"?
― winoa ryder sexes creatures of the night (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 28 June 2011 21:05 (fifteen years ago)
do you guys not like this or something? this is a great hard rock version of sweet jane.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uc26EFI1_nw

god Lou looks amazing though
― winoa ryder sexes creatures of the night (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 28 June 2011 21:12 (fifteen years ago)
yeah it's almost like a headhunters song in the intro.
― tylerw, Tuesday, 28 June 2011 21:13 (fifteen years ago)
feel like we could poll the mustaches alone in that clip
― winoa ryder sexes creatures of the night (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 28 June 2011 21:15 (fifteen years ago)
Those stage moves Reed is featuring in that Paris video are some of the worst of all time. And i've had the (mis)fortune of seeing Metallica with Rob Trujillo live.

do you guys not like this or something? this is a great hard rock version of sweet jane.
uh, no that's not my favorite version of Sweet Jane, and not really hard rock either. that riff can get so plodding in the wrong hands. I think it's the kind of thing that maybe really limited musicians who are having a lot of fun just playing the riff over and over do a good job with, but more accomplished musicians that get bored with it or feel the need to wail on top just kind of accentuate the monotony of it.
― Ktulu says, I've come to hate my body (wk), Tuesday, 28 June 2011 21:55 (fifteen years ago)
fair enough -- seems to me the rock n roll animal period is about as hard rock as lou got -- but the dudes in lou's band there are pretty accomplished session guys, i'd say.
― tylerw, Tuesday, 28 June 2011 21:59 (fifteen years ago)
Some of his later songs are harder than anything on Rock n Roll Animal.
Not BETTER, but HARDER

the raven has some cool stuff on it! and some terrrrrrrible stuff. weirdly, i just learned about this...http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51SVQzi61NL._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-arrow-click,TopRight,35,-76_AA300_SH20_OU01_.jpgguess the world demanded a graphic novel based on lou reed's album based on edgar allen poe.
― tylerw, Tuesday, 28 June 2011 22:33 (fifteen years ago)
"Egg Cream" is another hard Lou Reed song, but I can't find the original album track on YT. It's like if Van Morrison recorded stuff like "Want a Danish?" with Crazy Horse.
― polyphonic, Tuesday, 28 June 2011 22:42 (fifteen years ago)
not a graphic novel, exactly. an illustrated version of POEtry's libretto. from what little i can see on amazon, mattotti's work here is gorgeous, but it's the only point of appeal, imo.

When are we ever going to hear the results of that session?I don’t think Metallica wants to be a band on Broadway! [Chuckles.] They’re metalheads. They’re not going to do that. But the version of the Lulu music I did with Metallica is awe-inspiring. It’s maybe the best thing done by anyone, ever. It could create another planetary system. I’m not joking, and I’m not being egotistical.
You scrapped half of Lulu for the stage version. What’s the Metallica version like? There are two stories Lulu’s based on, and I rewrote Lulu from the get-go, taking the original plot — mostly Earth Spirit, not Pandora’s Box — and followed it essentially from the point of view of Lulu and the various people who love her, until she gets involved with Jack the Ripper. The basics. So the Metallica version will have absolutely all of that and more. It’ll probably come out by November.

What made you think of Poe as being musical material in the first place? It was a very underground, underground album. It had a lot of trouble coming out as a double CD, and it ended my relationship with the record company. It wasn’t their idea of a best seller: “I know, we’ll rewrite Edgar Allan Poe and make a fortune!” That’s why it’s nice to see them going under now and taking all their asshole A&R people with them. They’re getting what they deserve. They blew it with the Internet.
lol Lou
