that visual song is so amazing. probably in my top 5 as far as 80s disco goes.

actually, i'm having a hard time interpreting what "old school soul vocal" style means here. seems like most of it has that style by default?

took "old school soul vocals" literally at first, posted gladys knight & aretha tracks. now I interpret it as non-rap, robot or featherweight female vocals like france joli

And the 12" gold series, too. Mostly/all 80s r&b/disco. Lots of old school types (Aretha franklin's "get it right", manhattans' "crazy")

I explained what I meant by this upthread:
What I meant by "old school soul vocals" is the sort of shouty, gospel-influenced vocal style that was popular in the 60s and 70s, whereas in mainstream 80s soul/r&b more mannered and less melismatic singing seemed to be more popular. To my ears, Luther Vandross or Evelyn King don't sound like Isley Brothers or Fontella Bass. That doesn't mean either style would be "better" (I like both), but it's interesting to hear the older vocal style mixed with early 80s production and instrumentation, especially by artists who'd already been established 60s or 70s.

Ah, thanks, that one is good too.So many (potentially) great recommendations getting lost... I know people can’t be bothered, but I wish everyone would note which tracks they’re posting. It would ILM even more enjoyable (at least 25% more worthwhile, I’d say)#thretiquette

It's certainly not all boogie/r&b/electro per se. . . but the '78, '79, '80, '82, and '85 volumes of this series will probably give you a good dose of what you need (if you're in this/started this thread):
