fabkat, Saturday, 20 August 2005 17:09 (twenty years ago)

Arrrrr!

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 20 August 2005 17:16 (twenty years ago)

I'd like to join in the discussion now.

sickhead, Saturday, 20 August 2005 17:53 (twenty years ago)

bachrodi, Sunday, 21 August 2005 01:52 (twenty years ago)

I downloaded a shit load of boards of canada fakes so far, a couple full album fakes. I still can't believe loyal boards of canada fans would buy into this obvious mirage. Everyone says they are easy to immitate hmm? in theory yes...abut at the same time its nearly impossible. They have been making music forever and nobody else besides them can create that dinstict sound we should all know so well. Although...a few of the fakes have some pretty good songs, plus i just needed something new to listen to. October is a million light years away.

SamuraiPizzaCat, Sunday, 21 August 2005 17:13 (twenty years ago)

pff. two months, thats nothing. otm about the inimitable sound tho

fe7 (FE7), Sunday, 21 August 2005 17:21 (twenty years ago)

A month and a half = a million light years?

mike h. (mike h.), Sunday, 21 August 2005 17:30 (twenty years ago)

I've heard that all of their releases so far have been fake!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Sunday, 21 August 2005 18:25 (twenty years ago)

I phoned up boards of canada today and they confirmed that no they don't have a copy of the album either.

cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 21 August 2005 18:27 (twenty years ago)

Dude, how much I would pay to ring Boards up and have IDM themed phone sex.

Sickhead, Sunday, 21 August 2005 21:24 (twenty years ago)

I downloaded one of the leaked cds today.
HOW COULD ANY TRUE BOC FAN FALL FOR THAT??
i mean its not bad music. but its not great, or BoC.

julie and candy, Monday, 22 August 2005 09:52 (twenty years ago)

Humans are strange little creatures. Very weird indeed. Why do we make gods of people like boc? They are just dudes like you and i. Arn't they? Who cares what the album cover looks like?

They do write lovely tunes though. I just cant stop listening to BOC Maxima's 'Whitewater'....very nice. And i love the first track from Acid Memories. Be kind to one another everyone. Love to everyone on this thread xxx

wordofrecall, Monday, 22 August 2005 10:26 (twenty years ago)

shut up, hippie.

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 22 August 2005 11:36 (twenty years ago)

'Whitewater' is one of my favourites. I still prefer Boc Maxima to MHTRTC, Twoism AND Geogaddi I think.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 22 August 2005 12:11 (twenty years ago)

Hi! Recently i've downloaded BoC new album posted on easynews. All tracks in 320kbps, tracks 16--27 are entitled as Silence (5 secs long each). Nevertheless, i want to mention i will DO buy original album -- BoC is my most favourite electronic project (band?). I'm just currious. Are these tracks true or just another fake (like predecessors).
Something seems to me suspicious about those tracks. Track #05 is too fast-paced, too "dance-like" and sounds more like from Solvent or Am-Boy to me. Also no.14 with its acoustic-piano caused me a strike of "dejavu" to on hearing (i heard this melody somewhere....). I do not know. No much comments on this upload on news group (alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.electronic).
I include some CRC32 checks for songs:
Boards_of_Canada_-_01_-_Into_the_Rainbow_Vein.mp3 3 950 720 bytes, CRC32=F14A8D1E
Boards_of_Canada_-_02_-_Chromakey_Dreamcoat.mp3 10 790 912 bytes, CRC32=BB410FCB

defor, Monday, 22 August 2005 12:25 (twenty years ago)

Too bad...
Poor synths, pathetic drums and misarable tunes..
Definitely, not BOC.
FAKE!...

selenoid, Monday, 22 August 2005 18:30 (twenty years ago)

there is a copy of the album on alt.binaries.mp3s.electronic .... has tracks 16-27 as silence... cant figure it out... is it real? yes, no??

jbaum, Monday, 22 August 2005 23:30 (twenty years ago)

Does it sound like Boards of Canada being silent or an imitation?

Curt (cgould), Monday, 22 August 2005 23:44 (twenty years ago)

However, i'd like to write that those tracks (if fake) are of a very good quality (in a sense of mimicking BoC sound and feel). It is hard to figure out. Definitely the sound of BoC changes and no one can say that their new album will be of the completely same sound as previous ones. Consequently, i can't easily identify these mp3s as a fake because they can now produce more synth tunes, with less "noise" and "backward playing crypted messages".

Can anyone identify those tracks? Are they just mislabeled and already released by other authors on other discs? Only track no.14 seemed to sound familiar to me, like i heard it somewhere before.

I just want to point out that all these increase my anticipation of the new album. I'm really looking forward how the campfire headphase will sound on the date of release :)

defor, Tuesday, 23 August 2005 06:39 (twenty years ago)

The allegedly fake 'Chromakey Dreamcoat' track linked to upthread really is great. It does sound a bit too rich, full and polished for them but great all the same.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 08:41 (twenty years ago)

whoops, used 'rich, full and polished' as 'negatives' there, gasp.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 08:42 (twenty years ago)

Can someone tell me where I can get hold of BOC Maxima (legally. or otherwise ;) )

sickhead, Tuesday, 23 August 2005 09:46 (twenty years ago)

;)

fe7 (FE7), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 09:50 (twenty years ago)

It was said else (http://www.stereogum.com/archives/001704.html) that this fake release is originally by Freescha. Does anybody has their albums to confirm?

defor, Tuesday, 23 August 2005 10:35 (twenty years ago)

fe7 hook me up with some hot BOC Maxima shit

sickhead, Tuesday, 23 August 2005 16:02 (twenty years ago)

pay me cash $$$ ok

fe7 (FE7), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 16:05 (twenty years ago)

I have it on slsk

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 16:18 (twenty years ago)

Although BoC usually don't sanction the outside sale of older albums, you can usually find a copy or two for sale (used) from gemm.com. BOC Maxima is pretty cheap right now, but older stuff may cost you a pretty pence.

octopede, Tuesday, 23 August 2005 16:32 (twenty years ago)

Security is 360 and paramount. There are NO leaks. All versions of The Campfire Headphase circulating on the net are fakes no matter what someone has told you. Come October 18th there will be plenty.

Victory, Tuesday, 23 August 2005 18:07 (twenty years ago)

I think Geogaddi was a fake. So was In a Beautiful Place Out in the Country EP. Parts of Music Has the Right to Children were fakes: it starts out real, then it gets fake. The Hi Skores EP was real when it was released in 1996, but the reissue was a fake. Twoism is a fake.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 18:13 (twenty years ago)

It is Freescha, check out their album 'What's Come Inside of You?'

Philtr, Tuesday, 23 August 2005 19:49 (twenty years ago)

Question: weren't there some rumblings from BOC and Warp a few months ago about reissuing the older material? What ever happened there?

Telephonething (Telephonething), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 21:16 (twenty years ago)

Did anyone pick up that mp3 from last year titled 'Oranges And Flowers'? It's a good BOC fake (assuming it is fake), if a mediocre track itself. It may have actually been something from 'A Few Old Tunes' though.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 21:42 (twenty years ago)

fe7 I'm hearing you. wrapped in brown paper bag behind the dollar bin.. midnight. make sure no-one is with you.

sickhead, Tuesday, 23 August 2005 22:59 (twenty years ago)

the REAL thing just leaked. this very minute.

Googley Asearch (Toaster), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 23:17 (twenty years ago)

Hmm

van der who (van smack), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 23:25 (twenty years ago)

Does it sound fake?

walter kranz (walterkranz), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 23:25 (twenty years ago)

um, right. in a world where REAL = FAKE, it has been leaking every minute for a while.

natedey (ndeyoung), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 23:26 (twenty years ago)

Cantfire Headfake

walter kranz (walterkranz), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 23:26 (twenty years ago)

the real one just leaked on OINK though. bitrate = 320

Googley Asearch (Toaster), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 23:27 (twenty years ago)

do i get the feeling that people are going to flock to this board (and the oink requests) like vultures now?

natedey (ndeyoung), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 23:29 (twenty years ago)

nope the one on oink is still a fake.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 00:08 (twenty years ago)

did anyone see what allmusic has the release date as?

Feb. 5th 1017

Christopher Costello (CGC), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 02:09 (twenty years ago)

THERE ARE NO LEAKS OF THE FULL ALBUM. MAYBE JUST LOFI PARTIAL BITS OF TRACKS. ITS SECURE UNTIL THE PROMOS.

WARP, Wednesday, 24 August 2005 10:50 (twenty years ago)

I BUM U WARP

sickhead, Wednesday, 24 August 2005 18:03 (twenty years ago)

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 27 August 2005 10:49 (twenty years ago)
