the whole pitbull career arc is the weirdest thing. it's kinda tough to explain how he used to be really good.

i do like "give me everything" though, trust ne-yo to articulate the sense of mortality at the heart of the up-in-the-club aesthetic (one for the memento mori thread?)

also re: cher lloyd, i actually started a separate thread yesterday. i actually think "swagger jagger" is fun but the other songs i've heard are much better and less gimmicky

this kinda insistently pure dance pop is not usually my thing i guess (certainly least not in full-length terms) but i find she's got character

if by character i mean performance chops, latent r&b songwriter craft and a voice similar to gwen stefani's

cher lloyd was fun for 5 minutes i suppose but having her back 6 months later with this cobblers is just a bad dream

think she might be surprised by how little enthusiasm her general project is met with beyond the weirdo diehards

it'd be nice if it was all just messier and more british

one of my best friends is an honourary homosexual and I've found her adoration of tunes like "no angel" and "happiness" pretty infectious.

Post "the only girl in the world" I feel like there is actually a market for well-made songs in this vein.

it's interesting though, i've long mused that 'happiness' might be seen as a potentially something of a groundbreaking record but probably one of the main distinguishing factors in that assertion is that for an ultra-evolved streamlined american eurodance pop r&b hybrid it doesn't code as particularly homo, like there's no routinizing emancipatory release there. then again perhaps this is an overly basic way of looking at it, idk.

My problem with "Happiness" as that Alexis Jordan strikes me as a bit of a charisma vacuum
