weird bibby fetish (forksclovetofu), Monday, 13 June 2011 21:28 (fourteen years ago)

it's not like babyface became a household name outside of r&b fans either.

actually he did!

The Edge of Gloryhole (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 13 June 2011 21:32 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, Babyface was huge for a while.

Cue lex asking who Eric Clapton is

J0rdan S., Monday, 13 June 2011 22:21 (fourteen years ago)

Babyface was so massive that I have to remind myself of the fact. Apart from the hundreds of hits he wrote for every R&B star of the era (including the entirety of the Waiting to Exhale soundtrack), he had "Whip Appeal," "It's No Crime," "When Can I See You," among others, on his own.

Don't forget "Take a Bow"!

The Edge of Gloryhole (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 13 June 2011 22:28 (fourteen years ago)

i basically have nothing to say about these 2 new songs other than i like the pre-hook part of "fuck my brains out", reminds me of "i could never take the place of your man" a little. and the part where dream tries to make like engine noises with his mouth, it shouldn't work as well as it does

bite this display name (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 14 June 2011 03:36 (fourteen years ago)

so yeah "fuck my brains out" is the realness, kinda whatever on "body work" even though it seems like it should push all my terius buttons - luckily "FMBO" doesn't need "body work" to work

jag goo (k3vin k.), Sunday, 19 June 2011 04:33 (fourteen years ago)

the hook on "fuck my brains out" is so great, so peak-era prince

On his twitter feed listing the songs that he wasn't constrained in writing them, he includes Umbrella, Single Ladies and this

but they can't point me to the light

r|t|c, Thursday, 23 June 2011 01:42 (fourteen years ago)

totally head over heels for "FMBO" now - i'm all about the vocal-less first minute, makes me all http://th771.photobucket.com/albums/xx356/EdieRose/Gif%20me/th_Markbeingspunky.gif

"body work" is probably his worst vocal performance ever

bros -izing bros (k3vin k.), Saturday, 2 July 2011 04:51 (fourteen years ago)

uh, in spite of myself, i kind of love that celine dion song...

And the piano, it sounds like a carnivore (contenderizer), Saturday, 2 July 2011 05:08 (fourteen years ago)

body work is so much more of a jam than fuck my brainz out

Jacques_Lamure, Saturday, 2 July 2011 06:07 (fourteen years ago)

i only listened to this twice tbh

rosa parks did not sit on that bus for this shit (The Brainwasher), Saturday, 2 July 2011 06:24 (fourteen years ago)

Number None, Monday, 1 August 2011 23:43 (fourteen years ago)

BTW NO ONE AT DEFJAM IS HAPPY ABOUT A FREE ALBUM LOL.... they are trying to stop it!

i wish instead of releasing records this guy's studio was just like a radio station you could tune into. he totally sits there putting records together super-fast or goofing around jamming on sam cooke songs, it would be nice to hear more than ever comes out.

*crosses fingers*

Please let this happen.

Tired of these edcuated basic bitches. (lilsoulbrother), Tuesday, 2 August 2011 15:06 (fourteen years ago)

Posted this in the wrong thread. Whoops.

Anyway, Love Slave (http://www.hiphoprnbworld.net/?p=8089) is the first single from 1977, the free album. It's aight, fairly standard Terius love ballad, but there's some nice texture going on underneath. Hopefully it grows on me as much as the double single does.

Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Wednesday, 3 August 2011 01:37 (fourteen years ago)

i really like this

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 3 August 2011 01:39 (fourteen years ago)

it's a nice look for him to go back to this -- sounds like something off his first album

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 3 August 2011 01:40 (fourteen years ago)

His voice sounds like that of a man during the verses -- deeper with no trace of brattiness.

A Chuck Person's Guide to Mark Aguirre (Andy K), Wednesday, 3 August 2011 01:55 (fourteen years ago)

yeah, i picked that up too

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 3 August 2011 02:00 (fourteen years ago)

(oboe interlude) (The Brainwasher), Wednesday, 3 August 2011 05:39 (fourteen years ago)

this is alright though, maybe a bit too sparse

(oboe interlude) (The Brainwasher), Wednesday, 3 August 2011 05:41 (fourteen years ago)

sounds like a demo

(oboe interlude) (The Brainwasher), Wednesday, 3 August 2011 05:43 (fourteen years ago)

apparently it is a demo.... for ron isley

What does it say at the bottom?

dutty whiney (The Reverend), Thursday, 4 August 2011 03:42 (fourteen years ago)

would love to find out how Def Jam are screwing him right now. Seriously is there any label with poorer label-artist relationships than Def Jam?

mingalaba, Thursday, 4 August 2011 05:06 (fourteen years ago)

i always forget that terius is a sculptor as well

lex pretend, Thursday, 4 August 2011 07:06 (fourteen years ago)

isnt he supposed to be executive vp at def jam? not that i can find any evidence of it other than himself announcing it on his twitter one time.

r|t|c, Thursday, 4 August 2011 07:43 (fourteen years ago)

Whoa. That is an unexpected and kind of awesome album cover.
