jason aldean's "dirt road anthem" seems to have something of a chance of becoming a crossover pop hit -- on the heels of its recent cmt awards performance, the main version of the song AND a new remix featuring ludacris are both selling very strongly.

First: Simple Plan - did you guys ever get them? French-Canadian final wave of Sum41 pop punk who normally sing in English. But their lead single was released bilingually! One featuring Natasha Bedingfield, and the other featuring some Quebecois Idol chick. And I'm kind of digging it?

All of this stuff has/is charting in the Hot 100, and most of it in the Billboard Canadian Top 40.

Simple Plan's first couple albums got a pretty big push from MTV, were moderately successful. amazing that they still exist!

Jet Lag has nothing on "I'd Do Anything" which was a total summer jam around 2003, but still.

Even more amazing that they manage to sing without sounded as Quebecois as they speak, imo.

My favourite for sheer WTFness is still Kristina Maria, who had a song in the top 20 which is basically about kinky sex and toys and ropes and so forth

it always sounds to me like a weird pastiche of a bunch of different semi-mainstream indie bands -- MGMT-style muppet vocals (with the word "kids" in the chorus) and whistling that sounds like "Young Folks" and that Black Keys song
