note to critics, next time you decide to make fun of something you consider to be a hopelessly & laughably fringe, give maybe 30 seconds over to google before you begin typing

and if you do I promise to proof my posts to this online message board here
indeed it would be quite remarkable to see a dead composer perform.
i'm pretty sure they are just playing all those pieces in a dark room, am i wrong? also, looks like they somehow included listening to paul mccartney's the fireman project in the festivities. hard to celebrate the lineage of sf tape music without THAT masterpiece
― all-seeing eye of horus (psychgawsple), Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:56 (seventeen years ago)
it's not a great piece but it's not terrible, mostly instrumental, sounds like the orb
they're being spatialized live on a 16 speaker system, and those Ligeti & Xenakis pieces were meant to be played back at 100+ dB
― Milton Parker, Saturday, 31 January 2009 02:02 (seventeen years ago)
last time i saw something at project artaud there were some pretty distracting vibrating noises coming from the bleacher-style seating structure, which sorta ruined many of the quieter parts of the show. has anyone else noticed this?
i was thinking of checking it out on sunday but i have many hangups, as you can tell
― all-seeing eye of horus (psychgawsple), Saturday, 31 January 2009 03:54 (seventeen years ago)
the bleachers at artaud do resonate badly with bass.
the sf tape music festival is at cellspace. sunday will be a good night, though that 15 minute messiaen piece takes a little patience

ya, morgan, why you biting my style?!
i'll try to swing by if i can. think i'm gonna hit up Harvey at Oasis in oakland later that night.
i think i got a night at matador on the 16th playing psych, funk, rock, etc. i'll post more when i know more.
― (jaxon) ( .) ( .) (jaxon), Wednesday, 1 April 2009 17:56 (seventeen years ago)
how come i never hear about all this oasis stuff? is there like a myspace or a blog or something that is actually updated for these things? even when i have a tip i can't find any info
jax i enjoyed what i heard of your set the other night btw, should have stuck around to hear more. looks like i'll definitely be playing some records over there as well (at LASZLO- on Mission between 21st and 22nd) on april 7th, which is this coming tuesday if any of you are interested. it's not "my" night per se, i just struck up a conversation with the guy who runs it and he asked me to join, so we'll see how it goes! his name's mikie lixxx, and the other dj that night is going to be tristes tropiques
― all-seeing eye of horus (psychgawsple), Wednesday, 1 April 2009 18:32 (seventeen years ago)
ya, i'm definitely stopping by that. mikie was at laszlo when i played and seems like a bro
― (jaxon) ( .) ( .) (jaxon), Wednesday, 1 April 2009 18:33 (seventeen years ago)
the myspace for smartbeat the heartbeat is the promoter who throws the harvey/woolfy parties at oasis. place was fucking dead though last time and i dragged my friend who were in from out of town out to oakland for this party and no one was there except like 5-6 old black guys at the bar. harvey party last time was great though.
i'll miss both that and ur night psych cuz i'll be in new zealand, boo hoo :)
best of luck tho!
― maxsuxdix (san frandisco), Wednesday, 1 April 2009 18:55 (seventeen years ago)
Fuck, I gotta compete with DJ Harvey and Snoop Dogg? Two pillars of my DJ steez, right there.
Jaxon you, JaxWife and Cameron came up in convo the other night, while plotting this Matador thing. The gist of it was: Tubesteak rules and we miss y'all.
Anyhoo lemme know more deets about the 16th and it'd be great to see ya on Saturday!
― The Macallan 18 Year, Wednesday, 1 April 2009 23:05 (seventeen years ago)
ill come to that matador night jaxon!
― 69, Wednesday, 1 April 2009 23:23 (seventeen years ago)
so, i also just got confirmation that tony conrad is playing at my house! on friday (the 3rd), as an 'afterparty' for the film and lecture stuff he's doing at sfai. of course i didn't really have much to do with the planning of it, but my roommates sure got the hookup!
my house is known as the golden trapper keeper lodge and if you pm me i will tell you the address! (fwiw he is also doing a musical performance as part of his lecture series on saturday, another in competition with dj harvey, snoop dogg, the matador night, etc).

anyone go to harvey ? i was there. interesting crowd, met one of the guys from tristes tropiques, cool dude. now i see why most of his parties go until the early hours, right when things started getting warmed up it was over.
― oscar, Monday, 6 April 2009 20:37 (seventeen years ago)
i was at harvey too! and yeah, things were just getting good and the place shut down, i thought he usually played later at the oasis (at least old flyers indicate this). looks like he's playing in sf in early may though so maybe that will go later? i had fun regardless
― i am the eye in the sky... (psychgawsple), Monday, 6 April 2009 20:51 (seventeen years ago)
nice, i think will def check out that out in may.

i was too hungover to go to harvey :(

i will be doing this next thursday, though

― altair nouveau, Tuesday, 7 April 2009 01:26 (seventeen years ago)
i don't remember the venue, it was on a flyer at the bar at oasis. i DO remember it being on rhode island street, anyone know of a venue out there? i've been trying to find the flyer online to no avail
and yeah jax, i was entertaining a bunch of college friends and it was actually sorta hectic. but at least we got a solid crew out at oasis, i think that venue is my new bay area favorite. combines the ambience of an ethiopian restaurant (i guess it's technically nigerian food at night but the owners are eritrean) and a backyard bbq at a surfer friend's house or something. tho i wish you could look at the stars while you dance
