the placement of various things is really random but in a funny way there are so many GREAT hip hop tracks I am not that worried about a bunch of horrible shit showing up

I'm not sure what's more surprising - that only 4 people picked it or that one made it #1. I would have figured it as a slightly dutiful mid-table pick for a lot of people.

Is this actually someone's favorite rap track ever, or is the first place vote for strategery?
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 18:20 (thirteen years ago) link
lol I might have voted it #1, I don't remember

'Broken Language' turning up was wonderful for me. Until then it had been a bunch of tracks I loved and was happy to hear again pleased that they placed and then along came something that was new to me and i was like "damn". It is so so good!
― pandemic, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 18:31 (thirteen years ago) link
So bad ass.
Cube's the first one that has me saying, "Too Low! Too Low!"
Great song.

most lol moment is when Too $hort decides to switch "I Need a Freak" to "I Need a Bitch". altho the Wu-Tang and Cypress Hill versions on there are also both awesome

Yay for Heltah Skeltah! With that song and album, I've always loved how it's impossible pigeonhole them. They're too hardcore to be backpackers, but also too ironic and self-conscious to be gangsta rappers; it's just a constant flow of all sorts of subjects and signifiers with no discrimination. Such an idiosyncratic, fully-fleshed, well-delivered debut.
