like his stuff but his neg impact (resulting in Biggie's death) was unforgivable
― President Keyes, Saturday, 4 June 2011 23:54 (fifteen years ago)
His whole "Dre is gay" campaign was also pretty fucking disgusting
― President Keyes, Saturday, 4 June 2011 23:57 (fifteen years ago)
not that i demand PC from my rappers, just maybe from the Glee ones.

it's a shame that he helped create the atmosphere in which one of the greatest rappers of all time was murdered but uh...it's pretty bizarre to hold that against him when he, one of the other greatest rappers of all time, was also murdered 6 months earlier

didn't think y'all were voting on personalities here but idk maybe you were after all I hear cannibal ox are nice dudes
― no serenade no fire brigade just a trypophobia (Edward III), Sunday, 5 June 2011 00:10 (fifteen years ago)
yeah, Biggie was a woman-beater and Dre a homophobe so who's to say 2Pac was worse?
x-post Obv. great albums are made by hideous people. Check Astral Weeks.
― President Keyes, Sunday, 5 June 2011 00:12 (fifteen years ago)
But all the hagiography of 2pac and Biggie is pretty fucking ignorant.
― President Keyes, Sunday, 5 June 2011 00:13 (fifteen years ago)
isn't that shit over tho? been a while since I saw a black velvet painting of biggie + pac holding hands in heaven
― no serenade no fire brigade just a trypophobia (Edward III), Sunday, 5 June 2011 00:15 (fifteen years ago)
but I dunno it's been a while since I've been at a street fair or roadside stand
― no serenade no fire brigade just a trypophobia (Edward III), Sunday, 5 June 2011 00:17 (fifteen years ago)
yeah i feel like a lot of exaggeration or over-romanticizing of their legacies, especially Pac, has kind of mellowed and corrected itself in recent years
― a http://bit.ly/kv895M (some dude), Sunday, 5 June 2011 00:18 (fifteen years ago)
seems like love of pac has mellowed too, his placing here was one of the biggest surprises for me
― no serenade no fire brigade just a trypophobia (Edward III), Sunday, 5 June 2011 00:20 (fifteen years ago)
him being so prolific, especially for his time, has probably made it harder for consensus to form around any one of his albums as much as Ready To Die too
― a http://bit.ly/kv895M (some dude), Sunday, 5 June 2011 00:22 (fifteen years ago)
2pac was a fucking great rapper, of course, but I have East Coast issues with his legacy. Still listen to AEOM, MATW and Don Kill. Horrible human, nonetheless.
― President Keyes, Sunday, 5 June 2011 00:24 (fifteen years ago)
I was wondering if his posthumous career was partly to blame too tho me against the world seemed like a solid goto for a lotta fans
xp

i hear that Drake has a new album coming out soon, he's such a nice young man
― a http://bit.ly/kv895M (some dude), Sunday, 5 June 2011 00:29 (fifteen years ago)
you're maybe missing the part about hating personlly and listening at the same time. Doubt we'll be talking about Drake like this in 2025. (Doesn't mean that 2Pac wasn't a piece of shit tho. and an awesome rapper.)
― President Keyes, Sunday, 5 June 2011 00:35 (fifteen years ago)

― Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Sunday, 5 June 2011 16:48 (fifteen years ago)
I really should have voted :(
Might have got Southernplayalistic and Bone Thugs into the top 100
― Spo-Dee-O-Dee-Dopaliscious! (The Reverend), Sunday, 5 June 2011 17:55 (fifteen years ago)
No Bone Thugs is kind of a disgrace yeah.
I didn't vote cos I just felt it was too big and unmanageable a subject and I've got big gaps in my knowledge but if I'd've known Eazy was gonna finish 125th and 187um Killa wasn't even gonna appear I'd've done a ballot with just that at no. 1
― banter panchali (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 5 June 2011 18:03 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah, this poll is revealing all the weird gaps in my knowledge, which I think is cause during the time in my life I was most interested in rap ::canon::, I didn't have much $$$ or access to filesharing.
― Spo-Dee-O-Dee-Dopaliscious! (The Reverend), Sunday, 5 June 2011 18:07 (fifteen years ago)
keep looking thru the top 100 and i'm like jesus where the fuck would you start dissecting the rongness? the fucking Clipse 20-odd places above Return to the 36 Chambers just GET. TAE. FUCK.
― banter panchali (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 5 June 2011 18:07 (fifteen years ago)
Like, why have I never heard a BDP album? WTF!
Btw everybody gtfoing at Endtroducing for not being a rap album also needs to gtfo at Donuts.
― Spo-Dee-O-Dee-Dopaliscious! (The Reverend), Sunday, 5 June 2011 18:08 (fifteen years ago)
I used to play By All Means Necessary a lot way back when but I never really feel like listening to them nowadays.
― banter panchali (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 5 June 2011 18:09 (fifteen years ago)
think you probly have to include Shadow in a Hip Hop poll but that record is at least 150 places too high
― banter panchali (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 5 June 2011 18:10 (fifteen years ago)
Read thread title.
― Spo-Dee-O-Dee-Dopaliscious! (The Reverend), Sunday, 5 June 2011 18:14 (fifteen years ago)
Btw I love that Son of Bazerk cover, which I'd never seen before.
In the nomination thread it was explicitly said that instrumental rap/electro/etc was okay, and the poll was originally called "hip hop poll", not "rap poll". I voted for one instrumental album (not DJ Shadow nor Dilla though) according to that.
― Tuomas, Sunday, 5 June 2011 18:32 (fifteen years ago)
Sorry, I meant "instrumental hip hop".
aside from whether or not an album without rapping should be included, there are more than 100 albums with rapping that are better than donuts & endtroducing

u gotta get on it rev
― lebroner (D-40), Sunday, 5 June 2011 18:51 (fifteen years ago)
I don't get all the bitching about the placement, like I think criminal minded should be top 20 if not top 10 but that's one man's opinion and plus I didn't vote so
just happy it ended up in the final list somewhere
― no serenade no fire brigade just a trypophobia (Edward III), Sunday, 5 June 2011 19:00 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah, I've probably heard most of the songs on the first couple at least just here and there. xp

I didn't say I've never heard any damn BDP!
― Spo-Dee-O-Dee-Dopaliscious! (The Reverend), Sunday, 5 June 2011 19:09 (fifteen years ago)
Just that I've never sought out the albums, jeesh.
"Dope Beat" is the only one of those songs I wasn't already well acquainted with.
― Spo-Dee-O-Dee-Dopaliscious! (The Reverend), Sunday, 5 June 2011 19:10 (fifteen years ago)
and "dope beat" is an awesome song!
I'm just nostalgia vibing on BDP now, don't mind me
― no serenade no fire brigade just a trypophobia (Edward III), Sunday, 5 June 2011 19:18 (fifteen years ago)
Wtf with everyone shitting on Dr Octagon.. Every song and skit on that record is awesome. And I hate backpacker hiphop.
