it's a shame that he helped create the atmosphere in which one of the greatest rappers of all time was murdered but uh...it's pretty bizarre to hold that against him when he, one of the other greatest rappers of all time, was also murdered 6 months earlier

yeah i feel like a lot of exaggeration or over-romanticizing of their legacies, especially Pac, has kind of mellowed and corrected itself in recent years

seems like love of pac has mellowed too, his placing here was one of the biggest surprises for me

him being so prolific, especially for his time, has probably made it harder for consensus to form around any one of his albums as much as Ready To Die too

2pac was a fucking great rapper, of course, but I have East Coast issues with his legacy. Still listen to AEOM, MATW and Don Kill. Horrible human, nonetheless.

I was wondering if his posthumous career was partly to blame too tho me against the world seemed like a solid goto for a lotta fans

In the nomination thread it was explicitly said that instrumental rap/electro/etc was okay, and the poll was originally called "hip hop poll", not "rap poll". I voted for one instrumental album (not DJ Shadow nor Dilla though) according to that.
