The first time I saw the video for "Big Poppa" I distinctly recall thinking "wow, if this is where hip hop is going, I just don't care anymore"
I was the same way, I just couldn't stand it and hated anything Puffy was remotely involved with. But I got into a couple of years ago when all the things I hated about it had become commonplace enough that they didn't stand out as obnoxious anymore, or were now quaint and charming compared to even more obnoxious things.

I wasn't initially an RtD fan but I later came round to the idea that Biggie was basically the most naturally gifted MC of all time.

Beastie Boys are kind of limited but I'd so much rather listen to them cracking jokes and pop culture references than hear better rated rappers rap about how good they are at rapping or whatever.
