i sb'd myself for forgetting the ruler

brodie to the max (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 2 June 2011 20:19 (fifteen years ago)

16 so far here.

Boy in da corner and Hell hath no fury are loaded front to back with absolute bangers and the rapping is emotionally complex, technically dexterous and just fun to listen to, fuiud. I'm surprised HHNF placed so high though, I thought people here agreed lord willin was better - imo it's not nearly as consistent - but maybe that was just whinegarden.

I love or have loved all 3, but Lauryn, Check your head and especially DJ Shadow are NOT rap albums!

This thread has inspired me to download Black Moon, Cypress Hill (used to have the CD) and Ridin Dirty. I voted Underground Kingz, which is great in its own right, but I have mostly heard their later stuff.

Deej; you think 4,5,6 or Word Life is gonna make it? I'm holding out.

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Thursday, 2 June 2011 21:50 (fifteen years ago)

lebroner (D-40), Thursday, 2 June 2011 21:55 (fifteen years ago)

lebroner (D-40), Thursday, 2 June 2011 21:56 (fifteen years ago)

or big daddy kane ffs

metally ill (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 2 June 2011 21:58 (fifteen years ago)

I voted for G Rap but I'm betting others either voted for other albums of his or didn't vote at all...

metally ill (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 2 June 2011 21:59 (fifteen years ago)

Prolly true.

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Thursday, 2 June 2011 22:01 (fifteen years ago)

Shameful.

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Thursday, 2 June 2011 22:01 (fifteen years ago)

i voted for wanted: dead or alive by kool g rap...but he's tough i could see votes going to that album or 4, 5, 6 or road to the riches or live and let die :?

brodie to the max (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 2 June 2011 22:01 (fifteen years ago)

i voted for wanted: dead or alive by kool g rap

ah there is still hope! I think it was you that hipped me to that album iirc good on ya

metally ill (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 2 June 2011 22:02 (fifteen years ago)

long live the kane needs to be on this list

brodie to the max (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 2 June 2011 22:02 (fifteen years ago)

i didn't have time to order mine though so i have no idea if that affects things...i just picked overall number ones and let the rest go

brodie to the max (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 2 June 2011 22:02 (fifteen years ago)

Would be happy with any of Kanes first few tbh, not gonna happen, G Rap may have a better chance.

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Thursday, 2 June 2011 22:04 (fifteen years ago)

I kinda wish we could re-poll.

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Thursday, 2 June 2011 22:04 (fifteen years ago)

well after this we can poll all the results lol

metally ill (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 2 June 2011 22:06 (fifteen years ago)

haha

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Thursday, 2 June 2011 22:07 (fifteen years ago)

yeah it's a big daddy thing is good too...actually looks like a job for... is pretty good too, his later stuff is kinda underrated

brodie to the max (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 2 June 2011 22:08 (fifteen years ago)

i nommed Prince of Darkness

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Thursday, 2 June 2011 22:10 (fifteen years ago)

Long Live the Kane and It's a Big Daddy Thing are both great, and one of them deserves to place but yeah I'm kinda doubting it at this point. I dunno his later stuff.

metally ill (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 2 June 2011 22:10 (fifteen years ago)

he is awesome on Prince Among Thieves lol

metally ill (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 2 June 2011 22:10 (fifteen years ago)

taste of chocolate has pretty weak beats but Big Daddy Vs. Dolemite is a great o_O little curiosity

brodie to the max (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 2 June 2011 22:10 (fifteen years ago)

man...shit...prince among thieves rules, i should put that on my ballot

listened to it recently and it holds up very well

brodie to the max (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 2 June 2011 22:11 (fifteen years ago)

"he is awesome on Prince Among Thieves lol"

yah that was my fav joint on there besides Pain.

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Thursday, 2 June 2011 22:13 (fifteen years ago)

Prince Among Thieves was like some life changing ish when I first heard it, holds up for sure. I rarely revisit it tho.

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Thursday, 2 June 2011 22:16 (fifteen years ago)

I listened to it just last week, it's great once it gets going! surely some kind of shouldabeen-a-landmark-album. pretty sure I voted for it.

metally ill (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 2 June 2011 22:18 (fifteen years ago)

talking of Prince Paul.. Niggamortis?

merked, Thursday, 2 June 2011 22:32 (fifteen years ago)

Haha love big daddy vs dolemite

I was more a g rap / rakim dude but I have to say I prefer bdk and slick rick's stylistic descendents

lebroner (D-40), Thursday, 2 June 2011 22:35 (fifteen years ago)

Nb that requires a lot of unpacking and I haven't really thought it through, take it how u will

lebroner (D-40), Thursday, 2 June 2011 22:37 (fifteen years ago)

I bet it makes it, I had it on my list. Surprised it didn't show up yet tbh. xp

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Thursday, 2 June 2011 22:38 (fifteen years ago)

"I was more a g rap / rakim dude but I have to say I prefer bdk and slick rick's stylistic descendents"

That's an interesting talking point. Not sure which branch of the family tree I would prefer overall.

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Thursday, 2 June 2011 22:41 (fifteen years ago)

Would have to make some kind of list and weigh the pros/cons strengths/weaknesses or something.

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Thursday, 2 June 2011 22:41 (fifteen years ago)

I'm not sure how that family tree breaks down, would need to see it laid out

metally ill (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 2 June 2011 22:42 (fifteen years ago)

Basically pimp raps (snoop, shock g, lots of bay area dudes, etc) verses mafioso NY raps (Nas, Big, Jay, etc)

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Thursday, 2 June 2011 22:45 (fifteen years ago)

for those that haven't heard:

Big Daddy vs. Dolemite

five glorious minutes of BDK and Rudy Ray Moore playing the dozens

brodie to the max (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 2 June 2011 22:47 (fifteen years ago)

"you ain't sayin' nothin' slick to a carnivore"

brodie to the max (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 2 June 2011 22:49 (fifteen years ago)

haha thats great, pretty sure I skipped that track every time I listened to TOC, will be rectified.

Its basically just punchline after punchline.

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Thursday, 2 June 2011 22:51 (fifteen years ago)

Jayz kind of bridges kane and g rap

lebroner (D-40), Thursday, 2 June 2011 23:01 (fifteen years ago)

Kind of, yah. Was off the top. Pun may be a better fit.

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Thursday, 2 June 2011 23:10 (fifteen years ago)

whoa didnt notice this was rolling out til now

ciderpress, Thursday, 2 June 2011 23:12 (fifteen years ago)

metally ill (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 2 June 2011 23:20 (fifteen years ago)

how do you feel about DJ Shadow

metally ill (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 2 June 2011 23:20 (fifteen years ago)

yeah dj shadow doesnt really belong on here at all, reminds me of that aborted electronic music poll and how some folks showed up wanting to cast all their votes for synthpop
