interesting. kinda lost track of them. the single off the 2nd album was pretty good (get myself into it)

that new invisible conga people single is pretty cool, especially the main mix of In a Hole

second rapture album was pretty good, didn't realise they were still a live prospect though

ogmor, Monday, 23 May 2011 19:04 (fifteen years ago)

Anyone know if anyone from the DFA camp had any production input on the new Rapture LP?

It doesn't look as though they did which sort of seems a bit of a strange move if it's produced by "Phoenix producer/Cassius member Philippe Zdar produced the record, which the Rapture recorded in Brooklyn and Paris."

I thought the Ewan Pearson production on the last LP was a massive let down and didn't really see this band getting much further from Echoes if they didn't work with Murphy directly again.

i'd be really surprised if that rapture album ends up being any good.

for those that missed the beats in space, not only is there a crystal ark single coming out next week, but gavin russom is putting another one out in august

any US/Euro ppl who've bought the Holy Ghost! album - does it come in a plain jewel case in your territories?

the man who forsook his wife for fap fap fap (sic), Wednesday, 25 May 2011 03:44 (fifteen years ago)

The Rapture also had a major lineup change sine the last album - bassist/vocalist Mattie Safer out; ex-Q and Not U co-front guy Harris Klahr in.

Walter Galt, Wednesday, 25 May 2011 04:40 (fifteen years ago)

xpost: Netherlands reporting: yes it's a plain jewel case.
Such a great album to play in the car and shamelessly sing along on the top of your lungs :)

the gavin russom remix of cut copy is really great...

i'm into the carl craig remix of that one too

not really loving the new Crystal Ark, too much vocals imo

dmr, Wednesday, 1 June 2011 12:09 (fifteen years ago)

Yea, I like the Instrumental

du mein bestie (micarl), Wednesday, 1 June 2011 15:20 (fifteen years ago)

it's the poppiest thing he's done so far (save the britney remix maybe) but i think it's great. NO PARES

three weeks pass...

I would like this new Benoit & Sergio 12" SO much more if it didn't have the pitched down "PRINCIPLES" voice every 4 seconds. Driving me nuts. The b-side is much nicer.

Walter Galt, Wednesday, 22 June 2011 01:10 (fourteen years ago)

Very odd new one from the DFA - incredibly reverential cover of Pylon's "Cool" by Deerhunter; b-side is remixes by Sasha Frere-Jones featuring vocals from the woman from Sleigh Bells: http://www.pitchfork.com/news/42939-listen-deerhunter-cover-pylon/
Huh.

She Got the Shakes, Sunday, 26 June 2011 22:49 (fourteen years ago)

reverential

you ain't kidding. sounds really great though

rewards 12" (particularly 'asleep with the lights on") sounds ace

daft (by daft) (electricsound), Tuesday, 19 July 2011 05:07 (fourteen years ago)

if they're 12" only, dunno why these alleged series of Juan Maclean "too-housey-for-an-album" singles have to come out under a pseudonym, but

side projects are fun

it's not like the first Juan album was afraid of being "too techno"

maybe to avoid angry emails from entitled whang fanboys tho

'rhoda's theme' by fall on your sword could be my fave DFA of the year, and it's been a good year

Who? Well, I've never heard of Mogwai. (electricsound), Monday, 25 July 2011 02:08 (fourteen years ago)

IT IS AMAZING, thank you for bringing it to my attention

muus lääv? :D muus dut :( (Telephone thing), Thursday, 4 August 2011 23:29 (fourteen years ago)

...is unbelievably good.

second only to popcorn (or something), Thursday, 4 August 2011 23:38 (fourteen years ago)

but the vocal is really terrible and i can generally deal with non-singers singing.

jed_, Thursday, 4 August 2011 23:38 (fourteen years ago)

i love that joe goddard track "gabriel" although it's not very dfa.

jed_, Thursday, 4 August 2011 23:44 (fourteen years ago)

Shit, i need to do a DFA catch-up

yeah i think this is p fantastic

funky house sceptics, let me draw your attention to this (Lamp), Friday, 5 August 2011 01:21 (fourteen years ago)

it's nice, and more DFA-y than Hot Chip's records on DFA

generous loller at dollies (sic), Friday, 5 August 2011 01:50 (fourteen years ago)

you're probably right, sic, but i never think of hot chip as dfa since they aren't and never were in the uk, i don't think.

jed_, Friday, 5 August 2011 01:57 (fourteen years ago)

the b-sides on the Gabriel single are all pretty great too. between this single and all the Youth Group stuff I'm REALLY looking forward to his album.

About Group? That's Alexis, not Joe (and each already had an album a year or two ago [Alexis did a solo too] if you're even more eager)

^^^ playing this a lot

just sayin, Sunday, 14 August 2011 11:54 (fourteen years ago)

slept on so much dfa over the last few months, just really beginning to catch up on the big hitters. still haven't heard the holy ghost album despite how much i was anticipating it. couldn't believe it when i saw it in record shops before i even knew it was released.

℗⎣▲✘ (ico), Sunday, 14 August 2011 13:23 (fourteen years ago)

The Rewards/Solange collab-o_O is excellent despite being hipster-bait. I've already had to endure a conversation about how much braver and more interesting a singer Solange is than her singer.

BUT it is still fantastic.

Tim F, Sunday, 14 August 2011 13:29 (fourteen years ago)

than her sister obv.

Tim F, Sunday, 14 August 2011 13:29 (fourteen years ago)

Especially when it cuts to that stabbing house bassline, the strummy guitar chords and pizzicato strings.

Tim F, Sunday, 14 August 2011 13:32 (fourteen years ago)

i like how she's dealt w/ her sister's shadow

℗⎣▲✘ (ico), Sunday, 14 August 2011 13:47 (fourteen years ago)

Wow, "Gabriel" is really good

Number None, Monday, 15 August 2011 20:00 (fourteen years ago)

i know right? i think some ppl wouldnt bother listening to it since its a hot chip side project

just sayin, Monday, 15 August 2011 20:01 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, i think i would have dismissed it if it wasn't for the recommendations in this thread (and the DFA association probably). I actually like Hot Chip at times, but i listened to Goddard's solo album when it came out and i remember finding it actively irritating and pretty much everything that Alexis Taylor has done outside the group has been mediocre.

Number None, Monday, 15 August 2011 20:13 (fourteen years ago)

you're probably right, sic, but i never think of hot chip as dfa since they aren't and never were in the uk, i don't think.

missed this! no they weren't, but Gabriel is in the exact same position of DFA licensing it for foreign because they like it - it's on Goddard's own label Greco-Roman in the UK

generous loller at dollies (sic), Tuesday, 16 August 2011 00:48 (fourteen years ago)

two weeks pass...

I'm going to the dfa party at XOYO with James Murphy DJing tonight, but two of our friends can't go, so have two spare tickets. Anyone want one? They were £10 each plus booking, so would do 'em for £10 or nearest offer. ILXmail me if you're interested.

Also, I really love that Pylon remix.
