maybe racism is too strong a term. double standard is probably more accurate.

i think yonkers is great, other than that...nothing really "ground breaking" IMO.
― Crooked Lust (thebingo), Thursday, 19 May 2011 17:00 (fifteen years ago)
yeah it's weird! when Skrewdriver was making those records and hardly anybody said what bullshit they were and then suddenly when Axl Rose writes One In A Million and people get all outraged - I was like, you fuckin hypocrites, you have to also notice the shit in stuff that doesn't cross your radar
― w of in the attic (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Thursday, 19 May 2011 17:00 (fifteen years ago)
Can't figure out if Goblin is a joke or if I got rickrolled on some autotune r&b shit but it doesn't sound like OFWGKTA at all.
― President Keyes, Thursday, 19 May 2011 17:01 (fifteen years ago)
shakey maybe tegan + sara only heard about OF/tyler because they finally "reached white suburbia"
unless you think they have been reading this thread or following tyler's twitter all along and only ran to GLAAD when the album came out on XL or something
xp heh aero got in first
― goole, Thursday, 19 May 2011 17:02 (fifteen years ago)
I mean seriously Shakey - this stuff is getting a giant press push. are they supposed to go In Search Of Stuff That Hates Gay People or they're big ol' racists? what bullshit.
― w of in the attic (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Thursday, 19 May 2011 17:02 (fifteen years ago)
In Search Of Stuff That Hates Gay People
uh, aren't they? isn't this GLAAD's job? also it's not like homophobia/mysogyny in rap is some kind of well-kept secret or the OFWGKTA is somehow unique in this respect. attacking something as it reaches mass consciousness only brings that particular act even MORE notoriety. it's stupid to single them out, not to mention counterproductive. Controversy sells records.
― underrated earl sweatshirt fans i have boned (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 19 May 2011 17:04 (fifteen years ago)
shakey i'd like to know what type of rap you think doesn't reach the suburbs in 2011? because as far as i know, there is none.
― Blink 187um (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 19 May 2011 17:05 (fifteen years ago)
like, what's their end-goal here? to make Odd Future less popular? to make Tyler rap about different stuff? FAIL
xp
― underrated earl sweatshirt fans i have boned (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 19 May 2011 17:05 (fifteen years ago)
I dunno, it's tough to parse because if you sell enough records you're more likely selling to wite america and of course people are only gonna care about things that sell enough
an analog would be the media decrying some numbnuts racist organization in the boonies (prolly wouldn't bother) vs a presidential candidate who was a member of said organization, more attention just naturally brings more outrage
plus OF purposely push the offensiveness thing

I dunno let's ask Tegan and Sara

you are a weird dude
― I HAVE ISSUES (DJP), Thursday, 19 May 2011 17:06 (fifteen years ago)
Shakey, because this is the first time you've mentioned Tegan & Sara, I'd say you're a homophobe. After all, you never say anything about them until they said something about Tyler. Please stop being a homophobe. Is it so much to ask?
― w of in the attic (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Thursday, 19 May 2011 17:07 (fifteen years ago)
i asked you the question shakey i can hit teegs up on twitter anytime i like if i want her perspective

^ this
pop media have made a big deal about OF & tyler. they're in everybody's field of view, and naturally, people react. same thing happens constantly in politics. don't see this instance as specifically racist, though it does cast light on weird racial divisions in american society.

lol a) isn't the health inspector in this scenario GLAAD/Tegan & Sara, b) aren't they failing their job by focusing on just one act?
most importantly though, this kind of tactic really begs the question of what they're hoping to accomplish by making this public display of approbation. the health inspector would have the authority to just shut down the offending site (to carry out this analogy). But the end result of issuing these kinds of statements isn't the shutting down of Odd Future, it just enlarges their public profile (and feeds into their "we are going to offend you!" schtick)

― I HAVE ISSUES (DJP), Thursday, 19 May 2011 17:20 (fifteen years ago)
(tbf I thought it was Tegan Sara's job to make music, not attack other musicians. GLAAD otoh, yeah it's their job to root out homophobia, correct me if I'm wrong)
also yr analogy is broken croup quit while yr behindxp

you should tell these women they're being counterproductive directly, that's your job

I'm not even on board with this band! I am just a hardcore free speech guy, what can I say. I'm not telling anybody to shut up. Tegan and Sara can say whatever the fuck they want. But let's not pretend like they're having the (I presume) desired adverse affect on OF.
― underrated earl sweatshirt fans i have boned (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 19 May 2011 17:27 (fifteen years ago)

passive aggressive post-it notes on tyler's fridge
putting a character loosely based on tyler in an upcoming episode of glee, having him learn about homophobia and how word hurt and end the episode with him & the cast singing "being boring" by pet shop boys
