top ten is solid-ish, im not a big fan of "low" but obv it was huge and i think that santogold-apes-MIA song is really stupid-sounding even tho i like her, but otherwise its good -- the next ten are pretty wtf. Gnarls barkley? who tf is still listening to that? i dont know how many people voted but it seems odd that its that high. also i couldnt stand 'superstar' -- if yr gonna do old lupe fiasco songs 'dumb it down' and 'hip hop saved me' are both way better

otoh should you be rewarded for listing all the good songs on the radio?
― merriweather passantino pavilion (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 14 December 2008 03:59 (fifteen years ago) link
i definitely give them credit for listing good radio songs that get ignored on most every other list. also i seriously doubt that that list was 'voted' on rather than just kind of assembled by committee and intensely strategized. i mean they probably had to bend over backwards to get that whole 'year of wayne and kanye' top 5, which is my least favorite part...i mean there's something to be said for tokenism when it means just letting an artist be represented once or twice in a top 10.
― Piney G. Pinefoxen (some dude), Sunday, 14 December 2008 06:03 (fifteen years ago) link
weird mavado pick...'on the rock' is much better than 'so special'. obv the first list i've seen that i've enjoyed, even with the wtfisms.
a pity they went for mediocre lead singles to represent some artists though...eg i like 'just fine' just fine but 'roses' is surely loads more outstanding even though it was an album track? and if even rolling stone can bring itself to recognise random ciara leaked tracks, surely vibe doesn't need to choose the mediocre 'go girl' above 'high price', 'echo' or 'work'?

there are some wtf choices that i kind of understand (lol all rappers love coldplay) but i can't think up one reason why vibe magazine would feel the need to include far and away the worst bloc part song of all time - they don't even have name cache or anything anymore

Vibe don't have a clue obv. And including Coldplay in such a list is just bullshit as then Coldplay should have been on top. Coldplay are obviously objectively way better than any R&B, hip-hop or dance will ever be.

Another track will be the remix to MGMT's "Electric Feel". Jim Jones said this to GQ.com about it
“They did a show (at United Palace Theater) up in Washington Heights, the initial conversation was just that it was an honor to meet them, I think they're kinna cool. And from there it lead into me saying, It'd be crazy if I remixed "Electric Feel". They were like, Yeah, that would be crazy. So I said, Let me get the beats and shit.

See, there's this part where the music explodes into this massive, beautiful wave of like guitars, keyboards and ahhhs. And then Santogold joins in: "I can say I hope it will be worth what I give up..."
That's called a "chorus" and, in this case, it's really gorgeous.
