nvr knew the full name was odd future wolf gang kill them all dont give a fuck loiter squad

ofwgktadgafls

earl comes off as way too mature to really tolerate some of tyler's asshole behavior if he was around him now

<3 excerpts from that poem re: thebe - how you gon/do anything but rule?

johnny crunch, Monday, 16 May 2011 14:09 (fifteen years ago)

The emails from Earl are relayed through his mother and as much as i don't want to cry conspiracy, they really can't be taken at face value.

Number None, Monday, 16 May 2011 14:12 (fifteen years ago)

haha, the world's first Earl Truther. anyway maybe you're right, but I trust sanneh enough as a journalist to feel secure that he wasn't played.

J0rdan S., Monday, 16 May 2011 14:29 (fifteen years ago)

the way sanneh presents it kinda makes it clear that he's not necessarily taking it at face value either, just putting the little info he has out there

that's my hair no horses up there (lex pretend), Monday, 16 May 2011 14:33 (fifteen years ago)

also OF are so middle class lol

that's my hair no horses up there (lex pretend), Monday, 16 May 2011 14:34 (fifteen years ago)

I don't think they've ever claimed otherwise? also I don't see why that matters

J0rdan S., Monday, 16 May 2011 14:37 (fifteen years ago)

it doesn't really, though it makes their acting out even more of a boring cliché and adds to the unowned privilege that runs through their work

that's my hair no horses up there (lex pretend), Monday, 16 May 2011 14:50 (fifteen years ago)

that makes it more authentic

Kerm, Monday, 16 May 2011 14:53 (fifteen years ago)

You know what would be a good addition to this thread? A class debate

Number None, Monday, 16 May 2011 14:59 (fifteen years ago)

lex if you couldn't tell they were middle class before your opinion prob doesn't mean shit tbh

suggest ban the subbest man (some dude), Monday, 16 May 2011 15:00 (fifteen years ago)

ha well it's asking a lot for teens of any sort to own up to privilege imo, seems like an unfair criticism to me

J0rdan S., Monday, 16 May 2011 15:01 (fifteen years ago)

guys, I know there's important arguing to do, but "downfall of my mom"

...wouldn't need the talcum powder (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Monday, 16 May 2011 15:01 (fifteen years ago)

there's a widespread movement

the first rule of debate club (Edward III), Monday, 16 May 2011 15:06 (fifteen years ago)

so should I steal this from a doctor's office? buying it at a newsstand seems passe

the first rule of debate club (Edward III), Monday, 16 May 2011 15:07 (fifteen years ago)

buy the damn thing at a newsstand, good articles are awesome and worth supporting

...wouldn't need the talcum powder (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Monday, 16 May 2011 15:08 (fifteen years ago)

otm. the fact that the new yorker continues to come out every week is some kind of miracle imo

just sayin, Monday, 16 May 2011 15:09 (fifteen years ago)

ok maybe I will buy a copy and then steal one from a doctor's office, while wearing a ski mask

the first rule of debate club (Edward III), Monday, 16 May 2011 15:13 (fifteen years ago)

Ice Cube was middle class, dudes. Give a shit.

Rofflellzee (Craigo Boingo), Monday, 16 May 2011 15:19 (fifteen years ago)

you know who else is middle class? you.

it is sad but their is so much beauty (forksclovetofu), Monday, 16 May 2011 15:41 (fifteen years ago)

I think lex's point has to do with the uninterrogated/ignored/outright denied privilege that goes with being a straight American male

...wouldn't need the talcum powder (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Monday, 16 May 2011 15:44 (fifteen years ago)

that we keep hearing about

Kerm, Monday, 16 May 2011 15:45 (fifteen years ago)

on the other side of that, though, there's "downfall of my mom"

...wouldn't need the talcum powder (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Monday, 16 May 2011 15:46 (fifteen years ago)

the uninterrogated/ignored/outright denied privilege that goes with being a straight American white male

fixed that for you hope you d/m

the first rule of debate club (Edward III), Monday, 16 May 2011 15:57 (fifteen years ago)

came into this thread only to post downfall of my mom quote but i see you guys are already aware

difficult listening hour, Monday, 16 May 2011 15:57 (fifteen years ago)

Edward, privilege attains to all males + especially to American ones. sorry to blow yr mind w/that

...wouldn't need the talcum powder (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Monday, 16 May 2011 16:04 (fifteen years ago)

like, whiteness is undeniably its own sphere of privilege but anybody who thinks that male privilege magically disappears in the absence of the cherry-on-the-sundae privilege card is delusional & wrong

...wouldn't need the talcum powder (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Monday, 16 May 2011 16:05 (fifteen years ago)

So is it better to be black male or white female?

Rofflellzee (Craigo Boingo), Monday, 16 May 2011 16:06 (fifteen years ago)

We settled that one with the Democratic presidential primary iirc

da croupier, Monday, 16 May 2011 16:08 (fifteen years ago)

Ice cube wasn't really 'middle class' his dad was a janitor.

D-40, Monday, 16 May 2011 16:09 (fifteen years ago)

kind of a non-question xp - it's "better" to acknowledge how privilege informs your positions and avoid engaging in dialogues/narrative stances that use one's own privilege to marginalize/disenfranchise others, i.e., straight males telling lesbians that they've got some hard dick for them. For Edward, Tyler evidently has some offsetting disenfranchisement that makes this sort of homophobic assholism harmless, acceptable trolling. for me, less so.

speaking of harmless, acceptable trolling

da croupier, Monday, 16 May 2011 16:12 (fifteen years ago)

lol stfu cropu

thought it was interesting that when tyler gets pissed off remembering how other students called him white boy in high school his response is basically: fuck the black community. in that interview. being a pissed off nerd put fuel on the fire.

scott seward, Monday, 16 May 2011 16:20 (fifteen years ago)

no, my attitude isn't tyler's black so he can say w/e the fuck he wants (more like he's an artist he can say w/e the fuck he wants), I just think it's interesting to talk about the privilege of being a young black man in america, and the strange concentric circles of privilege these discussions imply

I am srsly not fucking with you, it's an odd thing to hear

the first rule of debate club (Edward III), Monday, 16 May 2011 16:32 (fifteen years ago)

I agree with that - when we talk about privilege, we're usually talking about white privilege. but hetero + male are heavy privilege, both of which extend further throughout history & culture than white privilege which is basically a brief, destructive historical moment whose window of existence is contracting & will shortly* be a "wtf happened there, that sucked" deal

*not like next week. but "shortly" considering the arc of history.

wait hold up I just checked some youtube comments about a domestic violence case and I may have to reconsider my thesis - some of these guys say it's actually men who're discriminated against! shit this changes everything
