recently I saw some dude outside pissing on a car parked next to mine and then I felt bad about bothering him because I get pee shy sometimes and empathized with what he may feel if I started talking to him
― puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Thursday, 12 May 2011 16:50 (fifteen years ago)
so I didn't bother him, and then I got these flashbacks of this one time when I was completely wasted and outside and pissing on cars for no reason and I felt bad
― puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Thursday, 12 May 2011 16:51 (fifteen years ago)
aw man you shoulda said hi if you recognized me
― some dude, Thursday, 12 May 2011 16:52 (fifteen years ago)

― the first rule of debate club (Edward III), Thursday, 12 May 2011 16:58 (fifteen years ago)

I hear people say horrible shit all the time and dont ever feel like doing anything tho, usually because it'll mean I have to spend more time around them
― puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Thursday, 12 May 2011 17:00 (fifteen years ago)
and i haven't really hung out with anyone that uses "gay" pejoratively since, like, high school.

I don't call the cops when I see horrible shit happen because the cops might fuck with me

as a big fat white dude i have had to listen to some seriously scary shit from other big fat white dudes about rap music. for decades, actually. maybe i have the kind of face that says: "please tell me all your scary thoughts about rap music and african-americans, i would love to hear them" and i defend or reason or explain or teach as best i can and sometimes i just ignore but sometimes i want to throw a whole bunch of shakes at people and call them all kinds of names. i don't though. i just listen to rap music really loud instead.
― scott seward, Thursday, 12 May 2011 17:03 (fifteen years ago)
the only ppl i hear say 'fag' these days are gay dudes
True story: About 20 years ago I was walking down the Venice boardwalk with a gay couple I knew back then and the one looked at the other and said, "You know, only total fags wear their T-shirt tucked into their cutoffs" (which said dude was in fact wearing at that moment), and the shorts-wearing dude looked back at him and said, "I know."

one thing I like about rap music being so prevalent is I can't remember the last time somebody was incredulous that I listened to rap, everybody listens to rap, moms and grannies and shit

I don't understand what the purpose is with these comparisons.

not sure who that was directed to, but for my part, i go to the comparisons in an attempt to contextualize a complex personal response. you seem pretty comfortable, in this case, saying "fuck it, this shit is just wrong." frankly, i admire that.
i don't personally feel quite as strongly about it. like i don't feel compelled to issue a blanket condemnation, though i can certainly relate to the impulse. goblin's pretty fucking foul and irresponsibly so, granted. but a lot of contemporary pop gives me weird shivers, even when i like it. and i do like OF. for the sake of another pointless lateral comparison, "toot it and boot it" strikes me as misogynist, and i love the shit out of that song. difference there is that it's relatively mild, a gleeful goof, not an endless blood-drenched emo horror flick. much less gross, but still...
in response to those sorts of dissonances, i'm trying to sort my thoughts & feelings out. shit, maybe it's just that i'm too used to equivocating and consequently move too slow.

was out with a couple friends last weekend, going for slices and beers in a largely gay/hipster part of town. saw this trendy-looking kid on a fixed-gear bike pedal past a crowd of older dudes smoking outside a gay bar. they weren't taking up that much room, but he raced through and kinda grazed one of the them. (what was he doing on the sidewalk in the 1st place?)
they kind of set in to yelling at him: "watch it!", "excuse me!", that kind of thing. kid rides about half a block up the street, then turns around and scrams, "FUCK YOU, FAGGOTS!" as loud as he can, then laughs and rides off. so, you know, plus ca change...

big demographic is also people who "used to like rap when it was good" and who would never listen to any new rap.
"when it was good" any time between 1980 and 2000.

my little brother is 19 (ten years younger) and uses "gay" as a pejorative all the time. i also have a mate at work who will say things like "my email's gayed up" or "hmmm... something seems to have gone agay". it doesn't really bother me because i don't actually think they hate gay people, it's just a verbal tic they picked up at school or whatever.
