all these weeks and weeks of nominations and only 16 ballots? what is wrong with you people

When people have a month to vote, people get lazy. 10-14 days is plenty of time.

My ballots have been sent!

Kinda weird/kinda canon, leaning newer and west coast to an extent.

My ballots were all over the place, but mostly mainstream and typically rockist and definitely stopped clock-ish.

Even though it was no conscious choice, I suspected my ballots would show how much of an 90s rap guy I am. And indeed, 13 of my top 20 tracks are from the nineties... But surprisingly enough, 5 of my top 10 albums are from the 00s, including #1 and #2.

Whoops, I misremembered, my #2 album is actually from 1999. But it certainly feels like a 00s album to me.

This goon is just a bit 'polled out', that's all.

I've finally listened to every single nominated track that's on Spotify. Useful for clarifying which MCs and producers I really don't have time for as well as for introducing me to so many brilliant tracks I missed. My bias towards 1988-1997 is ridiculous, it seems.

rock & roll was better '60s

sex was better in the '70s

rap was better in the '80's

retro was better in the '90's

internet opinions were better in the '00's

I've no political/purist opinion on the matter, but I still think it'd be weird to call music without rapping "rap". Generally I prefer to use the word "rap" (because I don't want to associate myself with the fundamentalists who distinguish "real hip hop" from "commercial rap" or whatever) when talking about the music, but when it comes to the instrumental stuff I say "instrumental hip hop", or just "hip hop", since "instrumental hip hop" is a retronym.

Sorry about the academic nitpicking, I just finished my thesis on masculinity in Finnish rap, so I've been kinda forced to think about issues of terminology, such as this one.

Ok well we can accept that when I made the thread I wasn't thinking this would be an issue and have no problem with people voting for instrumental/electro rap records and that the title wasn't meant as a subliminal way to stop people participating or voting if they primarily like this part of hip-hop?

It may however have something to do with deej getting pissy about my use of hip-hop/rap instead of just rap and deciding to go with just 'rap' as an all encompassing term because i still respect what dude thinks? even if he hasen't yet voted (grrr...)

re slow voting: I didn't have time to read the noms thread when I found it, a month old, and certainly didn;t have time to nom anything [ :( :( ]

I've copied the noms list and slashed out everything I don't want to consider, but it will take at least HOURS to whittle down further, and I have not had time to do so in between bits of work, at work, where we are three weeks behind schedule and have been all year. a hoy hoy is unemployed, right? this shit is not as easy as we'd like it to be.

also, it is insane to do TRACKS and ALBUMS in one poll. spread that shit out. that makes it waaaaaay harder for voters.
