Yeah I <3 T.WIlliams he's amazing.

jimitheexploder, Tuesday, 10 May 2011 18:02 (fifteen years ago)

I think Jacques Greene and flopson should rename themselves Jacques Greene in MTL and flopson in MTL, respectively. Then people will know they're from Montreal. (Although tbh, I thought flopson was from either Edmonton or Calgary, whichever one rennavate isn't from.)

al b. surly! (The Reverend), Tuesday, 10 May 2011 20:05 (fifteen years ago)

actually this mix is kind of amazing

YES!

Right now, I really want a T-shirt that says "Ikonika SUMMER MIX!!!"

De que estas hablando? (Tannenbaum Schmidt), Wednesday, 11 May 2011 05:23 (fifteen years ago)

the build in this just kind of ruled my mind for a few moments.

whenever the vein was to throb (the table is the table), Wednesday, 11 May 2011 05:59 (fifteen years ago)

I thought Lone were just another Boards of Canada soundalike - am I wrong?

Evil Eau (dog latin), Wednesday, 11 May 2011 09:53 (fifteen years ago)

He's like a dancier BOC basically

Number None, Wednesday, 11 May 2011 10:10 (fifteen years ago)

Lone is closer to the Black Dog than Boards of Canada, everything I've heard isn't really like the latter at all.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 11 May 2011 11:13 (fifteen years ago)

Well his first album was basically a BOC homage - hip-hop drums pared with analog synths. The recent stuff has the same nostalgic vibe but with more of a 90's techno underpinning.

Number None, Wednesday, 11 May 2011 11:20 (fifteen years ago)

I must have the first album as I'd filed him next to Freescha. So I might need to check this out. Never really got into the Black Dog but am a massive fan of Plaid, so...

Evil Eau (dog latin), Wednesday, 11 May 2011 11:30 (fifteen years ago)

Lone's latest album is more in the B12/Stasis/As One/Likeminded vein of 90s UK "intelligent" techno as Vahid alluded to back thread, and well worth checking out

Snámh dá Én (missingNO), Wednesday, 11 May 2011 11:35 (fifteen years ago)

i say "latest" but I think it came out last year. didn't get around to checking his latest thing on R & S but samples sound pretty great, rave stabs and samples and floaty pads and bleeps

Snámh dá Én (missingNO), Wednesday, 11 May 2011 11:41 (fifteen years ago)

also i think he shares his name with a beloved ilxor who's sadly been rather quiet of late

Snámh dá Én (missingNO), Wednesday, 11 May 2011 11:43 (fifteen years ago)

lone is 808 state

sisilafami, Wednesday, 11 May 2011 13:35 (fifteen years ago)

PR812...like, can i plz have this track standalone right now?

This could stand in as a description for basically any UK-based producer's releases in the past 12 months.

Tim F, Wednesday, 11 May 2011 22:59 (fifteen years ago)

turns out jacques greene is a friend of a close friend of mine

flopson, Wednesday, 11 May 2011 23:48 (fifteen years ago)

Yes, MTL is a small place for a city of 3 million. (Well, 1.5 million in the city proper.) Even smaller when limited by age and music-scene.

Alex in Montreal, Thursday, 12 May 2011 01:49 (fifteen years ago)

On topic, the Ikonika mix is lovely.

Alex in Montreal, Thursday, 12 May 2011 01:50 (fifteen years ago)

also his name is not jacques greene

flopson, Thursday, 12 May 2011 02:15 (fifteen years ago)

Oh, well, yeah. But talking about Ph1l via his real life name seems a bit rude. He went to such lengths initially to be all mysterious about it, distinguish it from his old moniker, etc. etc.

Alex in Montreal, Thursday, 12 May 2011 02:44 (fifteen years ago)

I mean, we refer to The-Dream as Terius for lolz but it's not like we go around talking about Tremaine Neverson or Sara Abdel-Hamid's Summer Mix or whatever.

De que estas hablando? (Tannenbaum Schmidt), Thursday, 12 May 2011 12:06 (fifteen years ago)

just started listening to ikonika's mix and it sounds great. thanks lex!

btw, "abdel-hamid", is she muslim?

cuteforce, Thursday, 12 May 2011 12:47 (fifteen years ago)

no - her dad's egyptian and her mum's from the philippines

lex pretend, Thursday, 12 May 2011 12:52 (fifteen years ago)

"pr812" is the track that made me go whoa in the mix but i think "i make lists" might be even better, proper freestyle influence - love the way the mix closes with it after opening with debbie deb

lex pretend, Thursday, 12 May 2011 12:54 (fifteen years ago)

oh yeah there's a new NS ep on the way - probably their grimiest release yet

There's also a white label of Kingdom's Ciara/Girl Unit mashup (which isn't great tbh) with "Fogs" on the flip.

Number None, Thursday, 12 May 2011 12:57 (fifteen years ago)

oh and this is a bit old but i don't think i posted about it anywhere when it came out - jam city's disko404 mix is also superb - http://disko404.org/podcast/podcast.html

does any know if there was a Night Slugs related refix/edit of Yolanda Be Cool "Speak No Americano?" Or is that as nuts as it sounds?

De que estas hablando? (Tannenbaum Schmidt), Thursday, 12 May 2011 13:22 (fifteen years ago)

Lil Silva did one

This Ikonika mix is a lot better than these sorts of mixes usually are, second half especially. What's the insane ravey one 10mins from the end?

I feel like the world has moved on since the Night Slugs wars of 2010 but if this is the direction the genre's taking in 2011 I'll be happy. Still not mad keen on the fallback metallic bass noise they seemingly use all the time though.

Matt DC, Friday, 13 May 2011 19:01 (fifteen years ago)

What's the insane ravey one 10mins from the end?

at ~21mins? i asked her, that's the optimum track

lex pretend, Friday, 13 May 2011 19:19 (fifteen years ago)

This Ikonika mix is a lot better than these sorts of mixes usually are, second half especially

how would you say it compares to the 20th april marcus set matt? choose your words wisely now.

r|t|c, Monday, 16 May 2011 12:42 (fifteen years ago)

This is where the Lone chat was...

http://wigflex.com/2011/05/12/lone-flex/

He's got another ravey one coming out on Wigflex it sounds pretty sweet.

The Ikonika mix is damn good, her mixes usualy are. The last one I heard of her's was: http://www.factmag.com/2010/11/29/fact-mix-206-ikonika/ which is on a par with it I'd say.

I enjoyed that Marcus set too its not an either/or thing for me. Although I like Petchy, Ill Blu, Funkystepz, Champion, etc loads better for my funky mixes. Marcus has been so shit at mixing when I've seen him live that I hardly tune in anymore to his show unless a load of people have been bigging up a recent one or something.

jimitheexploder, Monday, 16 May 2011 13:12 (fifteen years ago)

fall back son, i was only making a point specific to mdc

r|t|c, Monday, 16 May 2011 13:22 (fifteen years ago)

The first 20mins or so of the Marcus mix is great but I was listening before the Cup Final and stopped at kickoff, then forgot to go back to it. It's more fun than the Ikonika mix obv.

Matt DC, Monday, 16 May 2011 13:34 (fifteen years ago)

The first 20 min is probably the weakest! (relatively)

I order you back.

Tim F, Monday, 16 May 2011 13:37 (fifteen years ago)

lol you crack me up rtc, such a grumpy goon :')

jimitheexploder, Monday, 16 May 2011 13:44 (fifteen years ago)

like i say it wasnt my intention to start a war again, i just wanted to see how lord haw-haw was getting on considering he never seems to forget to go back and finish listening to those yupstep mixes he kind of sometimes maybe likes on occasion.

:)

r|t|c, Monday, 16 May 2011 14:28 (fifteen years ago)

i can't really blame anyone for getting bored and not wanting to finish something that's like 6 hours long

that's my hair no horses up there (lex pretend), Monday, 16 May 2011 14:31 (fifteen years ago)

Given that not one photographer in the country managed to capture it you'll just have to imagine I'm posting huthbalotellielbow.jpg here. An unsatisfactory state of affairs but what can you do.

lex pretend, Thursday, 30 June 2011 08:42 (fourteen years ago)

there are, and they are both titled teribly, perhaps in reference to 'yeah' with its stupid & pretentious mixes

this optimum mix is very good http://soundcloud.com/hyponik-com/hyp-041-optimum/s-xZw8B
