"i'm not sure why you guys are so caught up on biggie and tupac's death? it just kinda puts them in the company of billions of dead people."

bern notice (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 10 May 2011 02:31 (fifteen years ago)

Big Boi loves Kate Bush which is always remarked upon but unlike Diddy vis a vis Sade he hasn't made direct reference to it in 3 separate tracks.

haha holy shit @ Soho "Hot Music" 'diddy remix' of hello good morning

TTDeej (D-40), Tuesday, 10 May 2011 03:09 (fifteen years ago)

hearing T.I. rap over "Hot Music" is some kind of weird mash-up of my circa '04 music obsessions

TTDeej (D-40), Tuesday, 10 May 2011 03:10 (fifteen years ago)

except for how the verse is terrible

bern notice (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 10 May 2011 03:11 (fifteen years ago)

this fucking album

the greatest compliment i can pay this album is that it manages to elevate a straight grocery bag verse from justin timberlake into something transcendent

J0rdan S., Saturday, 14 May 2011 04:11 (fifteen years ago)

lol i skip "shades" and "angels" and end the album at "change" and it's perfect

THAT'S LIGHTWEIGHT DICKERY (dayo), Saturday, 14 May 2011 05:32 (fifteen years ago)

the greatest compliment i can pay this album is that it manages to elevate a straight grocery bag verse from justin timberlake into something transcendent

that verse is so amazing. i mean a huge part of it is the humour though, timberlake sounds like he's taking the piss out of grocery bags because we all know grocery bags are terrible, right? and the song's entire persona is this superstar who's kind of awkward on a human level

lex pretend, Saturday, 14 May 2011 07:57 (fifteen years ago)

i mean every JT grocery bag just makes me burst out laughing

lex pretend, Saturday, 14 May 2011 07:58 (fifteen years ago)

Yes but I don't think he's laughing.

Tim F, Saturday, 14 May 2011 07:59 (fifteen years ago)

i think he's being intentionally ridiculous

lex pretend, Saturday, 14 May 2011 08:04 (fifteen years ago)

like i don't think even JT thinks "we can press rewind, press rewind...VHS" is a properly great line (but it's still amazing)

lex pretend, Saturday, 14 May 2011 08:04 (fifteen years ago)

Well I don't think he thinks it's artistry, but I think he's taking the piss out of grocery bagging either.

Somewhere in between: I think he recognises that grocery bagging is just ridiculous enough that he too can play that game.

Tim F, Saturday, 14 May 2011 08:08 (fifteen years ago)

don't think he's taking... I mean.

Tim F, Saturday, 14 May 2011 08:09 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i'd agree w/that

lex pretend, Saturday, 14 May 2011 08:10 (fifteen years ago)

I do agree (or at least I think this is what you're getting at) that there's a difference there which means that you don't feel like he's trying to pass off grocery bagging as great rapping, which then makes it easier to love for its ridiculousness.

Tim F, Saturday, 14 May 2011 08:12 (fifteen years ago)

three weeks pass...

minor thing but do y'all read the lyric "I hate that you love me / so much, boy" as "I hate so much that you love me" or "I hate that you love me so much"

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 8 June 2011 17:20 (fifteen years ago)

the latter but kinda both

the smoke cloud of pure hatred (lex pretend), Wednesday, 8 June 2011 17:22 (fifteen years ago)

no the former! look at the title of the song - it's clearly meant to be a little of the latter too as well tho

positive rapper (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 8 June 2011 19:59 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah I think it's both.

Tim F, Wednesday, 8 June 2011 21:05 (fifteen years ago)

mostly former

there's not a single remotely poor song on this tbh

i could live without 'loving you no more' i guess but i don't mind it

uberweiss, Thursday, 9 June 2011 21:51 (fifteen years ago)

drake aside i think "loving you no more" is really dope, was my fav hit off the album until "your love"

some dude, Thursday, 9 June 2011 21:59 (fifteen years ago)

I always stop it b4 that song

The Reverend, Thursday, 9 June 2011 21:59 (fifteen years ago)

"loving you no more" completely rescued by SO MANY TEARS I CRIED

Brad Nelson (BradNelson), Thursday, 9 June 2011 22:33 (fifteen years ago)

meanwhile i could really do without "change" but its context in the deluxe edition ("i know"/"loving you no more" / "coming home") totally elevates it. it is sort of the bottom of the record, the whisper of a completely gone thing.

Brad Nelson (BradNelson), Thursday, 9 June 2011 22:36 (fifteen years ago)

also haha i used to dislike "your love" but oh how i was the most wrong

that coda

Love Come Down is shockingly great. I don't know why I never had it before.
