I was at a coffeehouse playing top-40 radio yesterday, and every song for a good half-hour or more was written, co-written, or performed by Bruno Mars.

In the current Pop landscape of futuristic super villains with drum machines, Bruno Mars is just very bland.

other than the fact that the 2 best-sounding songs are about gold diggin' womens the album is pretty refreshingly devoid of the kind of missteps that generally put people off bruno mars

I quite like the new single, it sounds very Police inspired. Not sure I can ever forgive him for The Lazy Song though.

yeah this album is actually quite strong. the only track i don't like is "gorilla" b/c the image of bruno mars doing it like a gorilla is slightly repulsive to me but hooray for the other tracks

sure, nothing else on the album is like "locked out of heaven" at all

"treasure" is really good although it doesn't sound like a radio hit. his voice still sounds like someone trying to impress judges on "american idol" which kinda ruins it for me, but there's shockingly good moments on this album. i wish the chorus of "locked out of heaven" was more rewarding. the verses are great though.

i really really love the bridge of locked out of heaven because, like, for a Police rip to suddenly do Stewart Copeland quarter-notes on the bell of the ride cymbal is like a Weird Al-level attention to detail.

i also hear The Romantics' "Talking in your sleep"

always had a soft spot for bruno, some of this is v immaculately completed paint by numbers but i'm more fond of "show me" & "locked out of heaven". shades of fellow behatted hate object jamiroquai on "treasure", feels appropriate. he'd be suited to a cover of "too young to die"

if you don't listen to the radio, this becomes harder to hear
