so all of the hundreds of rappers currently at Berner's career level or higher fit a certain profile or 'look like a rapper' in some basic way? that just seems like a weird idea to me.

it's like saying a guy in a successful band who has short hair "doesn't look like a rock star," feels very outdated to even pretend there's some narrow criteria for looking the part anymore

narcissism of small differences etc

i think its p interesting that lady gaga and ke$ha aren't what anyone would call traditional "knockouts" like madonna or kylie or whatev

i would say that many successful rappers strike me as 'successful for a reason' even if i dont love their rap style i.e. wiz. berner is like the anti-wiz

some people seem like stars, some dont. berner seems to have outgrown his image

yeah maybe the difference is i couldn't begin to guess or care why most Berner-level rappers are as successful as they are

the thing with berner is that he picks better beats than your favorite rapper (not assuming your favorite rapper is nas)

there is kind of a small-scale rick ross thing to him, where hes punching out of his weight class (very much figuratively, obv, in both cases)

nht boyz are my favourite thing in rap right now by a good distance still listen to power triangle more often than any other release from last year. their feel for pop rap & hilarious voices & sense of humour, doesnt get better imo

they are a v well balanced group in terms of goofy fun & realness & silliness & musicality

I checked that Death Grips out. Some interesting things going on, but I just couldn't enjoy it from a production standpoint, way too abrasive for my liking. I realize that's the point, its just too much for me. I did like the tracks; Guillotine, Takyon & Spread Eagle Across The Block, the latter sounds exactly like RZA (voice).
