ppl seem to be treating this like it's some huge fall-off in qual but so far it seems like any other OF release? afaik this was gonna be a free tumblr release last december but XL intercepted and now it's a legit release. if it had been another free release I'd be like, ok, here's bastard part II with some better production values. and that's what I'm like right now. tyler was always the most emo/self-indulgent member of OF anyway. I'm thinking if you didn't like bastard you're prolly not gonna like goblin either. plodding? it's not like bastard was some dance party banger.
hope they got a best buy in samoa

plodding? it's not like bastard was some dance party banger.
OTM. it's only plodding in a bad way if you don't like moody, mournful 90s-style beats. for at least 2/3 of its running time, tyler keeps the energy up. my only complaint is that the ratio of hilarious to bogus lines tips a bit towards the latter, and the "yo, i'm EMO" thing feels a little forced.

plodding?

track runtimes haven't been bugging me, haven't skipped a track yet
I admit I was o_O at "radicals" 7+ minute length but the outro's pretty awesome and my fave musical moment of the alb so far so

this is kinda more my realization than anything else that 1h13 of tyler has made sink in

in the guardian today - 'Bastard is ghoulish, but it's also rather gorgeous, with its stark piano lines and pillowy keyboards...In this writer's opinion it is one of the best rap albums ever made, free or otherwise.'
o_O
― just sayin, Saturday, 7 May 2011 14:57 (fifteen years ago)
Over the past 18 months, the eight rapping and recording-artist members of OFWGKTA (a collective that also includes producers and illustrators), have made more than a dozen albums available for free download. Forget "mixtapes", these are fully realised works; sample-free, each meticulously crafted and worthy of major label release.
u don't say
album is patchy and definitely plodding but just listening to it as an underground/experimental rap album there is some good stuff i think.

Whoa - you're saying a newspaper used hyperbole on their cover feature?
― Limousine Driver Nicknamed Hilton (Craigo Boingo), Saturday, 7 May 2011 15:13 (fifteen years ago)
Exactly. It's got a good half dozen great tracks imho, and the middle run of Tron Cat > Her > Sandwitches is pretty barnstorming. Sags badly at the end and yeah could've done with being 4 tracks shorter.
― Limousine Driver Nicknamed Hilton (Craigo Boingo), Saturday, 7 May 2011 15:14 (fifteen years ago)
xpost well i dont know, i dont really see the guardian saying that many new rock albums are the one of the best rock albums ever made? like i dont this kind of hyperbole is that common
― just sayin, Saturday, 7 May 2011 15:17 (fifteen years ago)
just seems to be taking it up a level thats all
Reading the Guardian piece with comments online, it looks like a genuinely held belief (also applied to Earl and Bastard) rather than put in for effect.

This line still makes me giggle 7th time through the album. As most have said it's too long but I'm gradually getting into it. Still put Earl, Dena, Rolling Papers, Bastard, (and if we're counting it Frank Ocean) over this but still enough greatish moments that I'll keep listening.
