"knack" was my operative word really - again all i've heard is the debut but while he definitely has a tendency toward melody, to me he uses it more as a crutch than anything else - hit/miss ratio on the hooks isn't that great imo

"understated" is otm i guess, can't really pin down what bores me about dudes like him yet for the most part I dig someone like mega

i think i'm actually fronting a bit - i actually enjoyed it more than i'm admitting, even if i didn't like the aesthetic - kind of the converse of your typical "didn't like it but i respected it" line

really i think it's his voice more than anything

so much of max's appeal for me is in the total package of how his music operates -- how he slurs his words, the sly humor, how equally sleazy & charming he is (not an easy thing to pull off) -- the vibe is incredibly unique

I'm particularly fixated on the way he sings "truuuuuuue/bluuuuuuuue" like his voice is about to give, also the way he drags his sssssssssssss's. These type of suave little details that Max seems to be loaded with are what keeps me coming back for more.

He is new for me, still getting acquainted with all this but that track really stands out. That tight snare has a warm pop to it, sounds really nice at high volumes with that sub bass rolling around underneath.

thats one of the few traxx w/out dame grease production -- agreed that it stands out tho

That explains why it doesn't really sound like anything else on VS. Also just realized he might be singing "too" in staid of "true."

anyone else finding it hard to get into the mood to listen to max b in the summer? listening to such sleazy music in sweltering heat, it just makes me feel like hot stinky garbage. early spring when the snow was melting but, like, grey & dirty--thats the season for max b imo

maybe the mixtapes, yeah

there are some total windows down summer jams on 'vigilante season' tho

want to call that out for being whatever the music crit equivalent of 'pop psychology' is but i kind of agree

it happenned though, like it was a feeling in my heart. smoked a joint & had a beer at the canal (so all other factors ensuring i would enjoy listening to max b) with my roommate then he went to work & i put on my headphones, listened to vigilante season, & felt like i was rotting

yah hate to get all 'looking at a party through smoke' but his stuff is def more of a hazy stoned depresso memory of summertime than the real deal

Minus 'Where Do I Go' of course, pretty much the perfect summer cut.

tried to take an emergency flight home yesterday because i'm feeling really unwell but flight was cancelled and i'm suffering 36 hours+ of delays. but as i'm being ferried around on buses in the disgusting humidity of the japanese summer all that is running through my head along with unbearable pain is a mixture of 'stake sauce' and some other max b song i can't remember the name of
