this doesn't really apply to Caramanica but seriously how many of the critics going "how charming, he says 'swag' and has a Spongebob toy" were shitting on any swag rapper with a cartoon character chain 2 years ago

some dude, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 13:25 (fifteen years ago)

later he tossed a half-full Wendy’s Frosty from the passenger seat of Ms. Clancy’s Porsche S.U.V. at a group of respectably dressed people lined up near the Grove mall.

He’s nurtured now, shielded. He wanted a trampoline for his birthday and got one. Keeping Tyler happy, and focused, is everyone’s priority.

man yeah the 'swag' thing in particular, all these too-smart-for-rap dudes were hating on anyone saying 'swag' until these dudes came back with it

geeks, dweebs, nerds & lames (D-40), Wednesday, 4 May 2011 14:00 (fifteen years ago)

you guys should just be glad more critics now appreciate rappers who say swag and wear cartoon character chains rather than complaining they're late to the game

da croupier, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 14:32 (fifteen years ago)

the rolling fruity swag thread predated these jerks considerbly

geeks, dweebs, nerds & lames (D-40), Wednesday, 4 May 2011 14:33 (fifteen years ago)

if goblin charts deej is gonna self-combust

^^wow that's a great line

coo coo khal (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 4 May 2011 14:49 (fifteen years ago)

i would love it if goblin was #1, but i think we learned with the Cee-Lo song that the internet is like 3% of the actual universe

bananas foster wallace (Whiney G. Weingarten), Wednesday, 4 May 2011 14:51 (fifteen years ago)

the cee-lo song did go to no 1 here

lex pretend, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 14:51 (fifteen years ago)

sadly

the weird thing is people retconning 'swag' as an OF/Lil B thing, like huge mainstream stars weren't using that word constantly well before anyone heard of them

some dude, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 14:52 (fifteen years ago)

can't tell is Whiney is being sarcastic, the Cee-Lo song is hugely ubiquitous even now like 8 months later

some dude, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 14:53 (fifteen years ago)

with OF it was like they had swag tourettes tho

xp

don't judge a book by its jpg (Edward III), Wednesday, 4 May 2011 14:54 (fifteen years ago)

that cee-lo song was a slow grower, it wasn't ubiquitous on day 1 which was what whiney was hoping for iirc

yeah i remember when ciara sang about her supergirl swag in like early 2009 and people sneered that it was played out then

lex pretend, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 14:56 (fifteen years ago)

gonna say, peaked at #2, still at #10 after more than half a year on the chart

da croupier, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 14:58 (fifteen years ago)

the fact that swag is so so widespread that even J Lo says it on american idol makes it even more cringeworthy when all the london hipsters shout it at each other :-( please go away swag.

?? i dont care where it ends up

geeks, dweebs, nerds & lames (D-40), Wednesday, 4 May 2011 15:01 (fifteen years ago)

yeah no idea what whiney is talking abt

geeks, dweebs, nerds & lames (D-40), Wednesday, 4 May 2011 15:02 (fifteen years ago)

even acknowledging that the song peaked after the grammys, "f-u" made top ten in 2010 (and yeah, #1 debut in the UK) so I don't think there was a valuable lesson about how the internet is but a pimple on the butt of pop culture or anything

da croupier, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 15:02 (fifteen years ago)

i bet if we reread that cee lo thread there will be lol predictions abt chart placement tho

geeks, dweebs, nerds & lames (D-40), Wednesday, 4 May 2011 15:03 (fifteen years ago)

^ that's what whiney was talking about

bananas foster wallace (Whiney G. Weingarten), Wednesday, 4 May 2011 15:07 (fifteen years ago)

miccio you're such a retard sometimes.

bananas foster wallace (Whiney G. Weingarten), Wednesday, 4 May 2011 15:07 (fifteen years ago)

sorry i contradicted your statement that cee-lo's big hit taught us that the internet is like 3% of the world, that was retarded of me

geeks, dweebs, nerds & lames (D-40), Wednesday, 4 May 2011 15:11 (fifteen years ago)

i guess you're a stinky buttface too, then

da croupier, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 15:11 (fifteen years ago)

Looking up its chart history on Billboard, F**k You didn't really start making an impact on the Billboard Hot 100 till after the Grammy performance. But then again things also seem kind of messed up in that there are seperate chart entries for "Forget You" and "F**k You", so I'm not entirely sure.

MarkoP, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 15:11 (fifteen years ago)

If you guys remember anything past what you ate for lunch, there was a big OH WOW moment when the viral "fuck you" video leaked with the kinetic text and became and enormous MEME and subject of THINK PIECES before it was available for actual sale.

When it ultimately DID become available for sale there was a lot of people--myself included iirc--who figured it would be immediately #1 or at least top 10 because it was the biggest "talked about pop moment" we remembered in years, or at least since like the week "Hey Ya" dropped. It ultimatly debuted at like #30 or something because the internet hivemind is like a drop in the bucket of reality; and it took like 8 months of steady grinding and grammy and snl appearances to actually make the song something that registered in the America that's not refreshing their browsers to see what pfork gave fleet foxes

whiney, you dingleberry poophead

da croupier, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 15:13 (fifteen years ago)

sorry i didn't remember the specifics of your cee-lo prediction when contradicting what you said in this thread, but i've had lunch since
