you still see dinosaurs out there who try to argue that hip-hop is innately a masculine, male space, and to defend it as such, so to have a rapper specifically pull gay men and girly girls (ie not just eye candy or "one of the boys") into it seems pretty important

that just sounds like a catch 22 where no matter what she says, you're going to say it plays into what straight people believe or want to believe about bisexuals (or whether they exist etc.). i mean she raps to a chick in the "Lil Freak" video the same way she raps to guys in her other videos.

not that i'm saying she needs to be hailed as a groundbreaker or anything, but it seems like you're just downplaying any small ways she inarguably has broken out of typical female rapper gender roles/sexuality
