I was never really a fan, BUT:
a) respect is due to an awesome musician and b) my GOD, "Two Step" is an awesome son, thanks in no small part to Moore's sax riffs.
Rest in peace, sir.

Kind of weird name though. A bit like Dzeewil, Moon Lit, Zowie and Fifi Trixibelle..... :)

This Willie Nelson cover pisses all over Matthews' horrible overblown original version.
Also it doesn't matter where you pause the video, you're guaranteed to capture Willie pulling any one of a number of LOL expressions.
― James Mitchell, Friday, 12 September 2008 18:43 (seventeen years ago)
overblown? that would seem to apply to those guitars far more than dave's acoustic version. i guess you're referring to the vocals? dave's version is a hell of a lot more expressive than willie, who seems to be having a conversation while making some funny faces. or were you giving him extra points for his iconicity and vocal tone?
― gabbneb, Friday, 12 September 2008 19:56 (seventeen years ago)
willie's kinda like cassandra wilson here - interpretation that's worthwhile on its own terms but is only faintly expressive of the song itself

I just wanted to add that I read this whole damn post. Yay for me! Some funny shit, other than that band member's death. Anyway, I see it as my American Duty to revive this thread, to let freedom ring!

Oh, on a side note: I have two dear friends who love DMB - and they both are lawyers. :-)
But that also means that I've been dragged to more DMB concerts than I care to admit (OK, I admit - four). I'm not much of a concert-going person, but it's still strange to realize that nearly half of the concerts I've attended were those of the DMB. If you saw my record collection you'd understand. Anyway, carry on.

I was at Virginia Beach '97. During the jam, Mr. Moore was playing - or at least pretending to play - two saxophones at once.

my favourite post on ILM ever
alright.. i only read the first bunch of postings.. and i dont know why there are so many haters out there.. dave is a great guy and does alott of work for charities.. pardon the spelling haha.. i dont know where you get corporate rock band from.. since hes libral as hell.. his lyrics are great.. just get beyond everyday and gravedigger.. his so smooth on the guitar its not even funny.. everyone in the band has incredible talent.. and i dont know how you can say its bland music.. some of the greatest artists ever are bland.. for example.. and keep in mind i love the beatles.. but "we all live in a yellow submarineee yellow submarinee.. la la la" its very boring as well.. oh and about his voice.. very few people have the range that dave has.. and what kind of music does everyone here listen too??.. besides britney spears and john mayer of course..― CcchrissS, Saturday, 10 December 2005 03:25 (3 years ago) Bookmark Suggest Ban Permalink

I don't think i've knowingly ever heard a Dave Matthews Band song in my entire life. Or a Phish song.I assume this means i'm pretty lucky?
But then Americans don't have to listen to Kasabian or The Enemy so its swings and roundabouts.
― Jamie_ATP, Monday, 15 June 2009 22:44 (sixteen years ago)
feel free to take the piss of the phrase swings and roundaboutsor indeed the phrase 'take the piss'
― Jamie_ATP, Monday, 15 June 2009 22:46 (sixteen years ago)
But then Americans don't have to listen to Kasabian
You'd be surprised. Kasabian made the rounds at American summer festivals a few years back and my ears were an unfortunate victim.

"some of the greatest artists ever are bland" is possibly the greatest single thing ever written on ILM.

I think you'll find that the board has lived up to it's description if you look hard enough. Or if you have the time to go through the whole thing.

In the proposal, which The New York Times examined, Mr. Young says that he assisted the affair by setting up private meetings between Mr. Edwards and Ms. Hunter. He wrote that Mr. Edwards once calmed an anxious Ms. Hunter by promising her that after his wife died, he would marry her in a rooftop ceremony in New York with an appearance by the Dave Matthews Band.
