I think Krallice - Diotoma is the best BM album I've heard yet this year! How's that for an opinion?

No pop, no style -- all simply (Viceroy), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 21:08 (fifteen years ago)

a very enthralling album...

No pop, no style -- all simply (Viceroy), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 21:08 (fifteen years ago)

but have you actually heard it yet?

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 21:19 (fifteen years ago)

check my last.fm profile if you need proof.

No pop, no style -- all simply (Viceroy), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 21:27 (fifteen years ago)

haha i know, was just joking. Gonna give that Cruachan album you've been listening to a go, i reckon it will be right up mordy's alley

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 21:43 (fifteen years ago)

The first half of Diotima takes a while to get going, but the second half, oh man.

A. Begrand, Tuesday, 19 April 2011 21:55 (fifteen years ago)

if you had to pick between the new albums between Liturgy & Krallice, who would you all choose?

I think i'm siding with Krallice atm (just)

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 21:59 (fifteen years ago)

Did anyone pick up that last (as in final) Velvet Cacoon CD that's in the 7" sleeve? Or the Clair Cassis LP?

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Tuesday, 19 April 2011 22:12 (fifteen years ago)

Nope, not heard either.

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Wednesday, 20 April 2011 00:46 (fifteen years ago)

P aa opal Poere Pr. 33? The one that wasn't so drone-based? It wasn't bad, no Genevieve, but not bad. People really seemed to like the Clair Cassis, left me a bit cold. The last EP I liked though.

Wandering Boy Poet, Wednesday, 20 April 2011 12:15 (fifteen years ago)

Thanks! I guess Clair Cassis is already broken up as well?

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Wednesday, 20 April 2011 17:24 (fifteen years ago)

There said they had, but suddenly there's a new EP "Luxury Absolute". Clair Cassis is similar in sound to early Velvet Cacoon, but the songs are relatively short.

Soukesian, Wednesday, 20 April 2011 21:07 (fifteen years ago)

Preferred the rough mixes of "P aa opal Poere Pr. 33" that did the rounds, though it's a nice package. "Atropine", which I think was actually the last VC release, was all minimal echoing soundscapes, as far as I remember. A nice enough experience, but not one I've felt the need to revisit more than a couple of times.

Soukesian, Wednesday, 20 April 2011 21:44 (fifteen years ago)

hey Alcest/Austere fans, check out Woods Of Desolation, they're an Australian band and their new album Torn Beyond Reason is vv nice imo.

StanM, Thursday, 21 April 2011 08:46 (fifteen years ago)

Duh. Same ppl as Austere, even.

Finally listened to the new Liturgy. I did in fact like it; it's v exhilirating noise rock, and yet this comment by glenn kind of hit home:

I so want to love the Liturgy album. But every time that long silent gap in the middle comes up I find myself saying "Phew, that album's over. Oh, wait, no."

Haven't finished listening to the Krallice yet, so I will withhold comment, but I'm starting to wonder if bm is just not for me...

that being said, has anyone heard the new Ulver yet? is it any good?

Dr. Suggestban, or How I Learned to Stop etc. (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 27 April 2011 04:50 (fifteen years ago)

I've heard all three. Krallice > Liturgy > Ulver (with the Ulver not being black metal at all).

that's not funny. (unperson), Wednesday, 27 April 2011 10:29 (fifteen years ago)

I had one of those Eurovision/Mylene Farmer 'why on earth do people like this' moments while listening to the new Ulver

Brakhage, Wednesday, 27 April 2011 15:58 (fifteen years ago)

That said I am a huge Opeth fanboy so I may just be experiencing the narcissism of small differences

Brakhage, Wednesday, 27 April 2011 16:01 (fifteen years ago)

I wasn't expecting the Ulver to sound like BM, I just knew that they were BM at one time...

Wait, do they always sound like... any metal band's CD skipping?

Telemachus Sneezed (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Thursday, 28 April 2011 02:03 (fifteen years ago)

Liturgy : black metal
Boredoms : Krautrock

that was kinda my impression of Renihilation anyway

Brakhage, Thursday, 28 April 2011 02:44 (fifteen years ago)

been listening to Super Ae/SR7/VCN lately, and I really dig that analogy...

Dr. Suggestban, or How I Learned to Stop etc. (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 28 April 2011 05:04 (fifteen years ago)

That either a huge compliment to Liturgy or a massive insult to the Boredoms (I'm in the latter camp myself.)

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Thursday, 28 April 2011 15:58 (fifteen years ago)

Well, they're both adopting the textures of the genre and putting it to this psychedelic trance purpose, is how I saw it. It's not really a moral judgment on whether the music is *good*

Liturgy have a looooong way to go to scrape a paint fleck off the Boredoms chrome, obv

Brakhage, Thursday, 28 April 2011 17:54 (fifteen years ago)

Actually I would totally listen to Liturgy doing a cover of Acid Police

Brakhage, Thursday, 28 April 2011 17:56 (fifteen years ago)

yeah that's how i took it.

that is my favorite black metal release of 2011 so far

deez m'uts (La Lechera), Wednesday, 11 May 2011 03:28 (fifteen years ago)

I really dig the green onions drum break

Brakhage, Thursday, 12 May 2011 17:49 (fifteen years ago)

man, i really love this liturgy record. so epic. the math-y riffs up against the rubato blast beat stuff is a great juxtaposition.

adult music person (Jordan), Tuesday, 17 May 2011 16:11 (fifteen years ago)

i also how the 'generations' rhythm appears across the album as a theme.

adult music person (Jordan), Tuesday, 17 May 2011 16:12 (fifteen years ago)

New Peste Noir sounds awesome; really running with that sound they started to experiment with on Folkfuck Folie

two weeks pass...

so roxy - what new black metal do you recommend? you know, stuff that has just recently come out or is due to come out soon.

I-95 Phuck Phace (Eisbaer), Monday, 6 June 2011 01:48 (fifteen years ago)

De-lurking to recommend "Dødssanger", the first album from Norwegian black metal "supergroup" Djevel (members from Kvelertak and Purified in Blood amongst others).

I'm no black metal expert, but the album feels fresh even though its roots are firmly planted in the genre. Listened to it twice on my way to work (yes, I have a long commute) and feel like giving it a third spin right now.

Norwegian, shrewd, Tuesday, 14 June 2011 09:20 (fourteen years ago)

three months pass...

maybe not metal enough for the rolling metal thread so i'll post it here this sounds like this scottish band might be ideal for those of you who enjoy atmospheric celtic shoegazy black metal

I'm guessing they may sound a bit like agalloch and alcest. Just going to give it a listen now

some lady (La Lechera), Wednesday, 21 September 2011 19:32 (fourteen years ago)

You might also like the Old Silver Key album. Which is Drudkh with Neige of Alcest on vox. (clean vox) its pretty much a shoegaze album

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 19:36 (fourteen years ago)

that is a very appealing cover

some lady (La Lechera), Wednesday, 21 September 2011 19:39 (fourteen years ago)

It's not as heavy as i hoped, I didn't think it was going to be as shoegazy I expected a heavy album with clean vox. But i think it will appeal to a lot of people on here.

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 19:49 (fourteen years ago)

And this is also Glennmusic I think
