listen to coke wave number none

flopson, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 07:06 (fifteen years ago)

coke wave is classic & near perfect imo

D-40, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 07:07 (fifteen years ago)

its one of my favourite albums of all time

flopson, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 07:14 (fifteen years ago)

cooleh story is really poorly written but it seems like he could have a shot on appeal idk

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 13 April 2011 07:17 (fifteen years ago)

wtf happened to zvookster? he was annoying itt

D-40, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 07:37 (fifteen years ago)

the big zvookster post is the best in the entire thread fyi esp this

i think noz realized he was doing something unique in NY with his relationship to melody, sort of like a less embarrassed, less cynical 50. 50 often sounds like he's too gangster to really try to sing, so he'll just indicate melody enough to get it across or condescend to make it commercial. with max b his woozy relationship with melody is inherent in every track, inherent to who he is & what he's doing on the track

flopson, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 07:39 (fifteen years ago)

i dont think he quite has it there, altho i agree that max has a unique take on melody -- its a starting pt
but i dont want to give it away 4 free if u get my meaning :D

D-40, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 07:41 (fifteen years ago)

also all his other posts were distracting/annoying

D-40, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 07:41 (fifteen years ago)

... this stuff is kind of perfect to me, blend of really melodic ear & lyrical rapping, matter-of-fact real talk and a reggae-style inclination for reversioning classic pop jams ("do for love" "I want you" even effin "Englishman in new york"). dame grease's production is extroverted pop ish but with a real dilapidated feel, appropriate for post-golden era new york.

this is really great

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 13 April 2011 07:44 (fifteen years ago)

just fwiw

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 13 April 2011 07:44 (fifteen years ago)

ya definitely. dilapidated is perfect & so true, think of it especially on beats like 'goon music' or ones that sound like low-bitrate g unit beats

flopson, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 07:48 (fifteen years ago)

ive had that fucking 'wa-deedee dah dee dayyy' thread stuck in my head for days now

D-40, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 08:05 (fifteen years ago)

*melody* not thread lol

D-40, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 08:05 (fifteen years ago)

it's kinda weird that max slipped thru the cracks critically, being a dipset affiliate who isn't that far off of wayne's druggy, crooning prolific mixtape period

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 13 April 2011 08:12 (fifteen years ago)

is raps arent obviously 'clever' so ppl who jumped on the wayne thing might be at a loss

D-40, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 12:57 (fifteen years ago)

im not really surprised by the lack of critical attention at all... hes a grassroots artist & critics are notoriously terrible at catching onto this stuff

D-40, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 12:58 (fifteen years ago)

only max can do this shit

kl0ppa kl0ppa down (tpp), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 13:07 (fifteen years ago)

played 'why you do that' 12" DJing last nite & it sounded amazing. its a damn tragedy that these dudes all rose in teh post-vinyl era. i want gucci's 'my shadow' on wax

D-40, Thursday, 14 April 2011 19:49 (fifteen years ago)

tyler's putting his album out on vinyl, you should pre-order :)

J0rdan S., Thursday, 14 April 2011 19:50 (fifteen years ago)

ugh

D-40, Thursday, 14 April 2011 20:00 (fifteen years ago)

noz's bedroom rap feature in the wire is a nice way to let me know of rap acts never to check for

D-40, Thursday, 14 April 2011 20:01 (fifteen years ago)

yo you should check out that shady blaze i linked to in gun sounds -- the guy is from main attrakionz (who i've never heard) but there's no way that you wouldn't dig it -- maybe it's a little too unpolished for you tastes but it's basically contemplative doubletime trae raps with some r&b doubletime twista raps

J0rdan S., Thursday, 14 April 2011 20:03 (fifteen years ago)

ill check it out

you know who's a solid rapper? french montana

of course then he went & pulled an oj the juiceman on me & released that terrible mix cd w/ lex luger beats real & fake

D-40, Friday, 15 April 2011 17:24 (fifteen years ago)

I have now listened to both Coke Wave and the new album. I also like French Montana, hadn't heard anything of his before apart from that single with Curren$y from last year. Anyway i really like this stuff, but i always enjoy a rapper who's not afraid to indulge in some semi-amateurish crooning so it definitely ticks that box.

Number None, Friday, 15 April 2011 17:31 (fifteen years ago)

french montana is so goofy & sometimes comes in awkwardly but it's true he's surprisingly solid & really grows on u

nigga get wit her or get rolled over
on the grind can't get a day sober
breaks over, goon music takeover
cocaine in a coke wave makeover
i done seen real niggas foldover

flopson, Friday, 15 April 2011 17:39 (fifteen years ago)

feel like french handles his big awkward cadence well, always kind of towers over beats rather than riding them or adapting his flow to them

flopson, Friday, 15 April 2011 17:43 (fifteen years ago)

btw i love meeno

obv he is not dame grease's #1 priority but regardless

flopson, Friday, 15 April 2011 17:47 (fifteen years ago)

yah otm re: french's flow, i think the moment it hit me was that 'money weed blow' track w/ 3-6

D-40, Friday, 15 April 2011 17:50 (fifteen years ago)

D-40, Saturday, 16 April 2011 07:14 (fifteen years ago)

his performance on that is great -- it def has this feel of almost going off the rails, it's almost like he recorded the song in a car that was going 90 mph on a freeway
