Another reason to hate them

Herman G. Neuname, Thursday, 3 April 2008 20:58 (eighteen years ago)

I think songs like Stolen Away on 55th & 3rd, Old Dirt Hill, and Dancing Nancies deserve recognition if not the sappy Satellite and Typical Situation.

CaptainLorax, Thursday, 3 April 2008 21:01 (eighteen years ago)

two months pass...

American ILMers, do you still hate Dave Matthews Band?

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 11:07 (eighteen years ago)

uh. we hate third-rate Dave Matthews knockoffs more. Jason Mraz comes to mind.

stephen, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 18:55 (eighteen years ago)

I was just thinking about this thread today.

Bimble, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 19:56 (eighteen years ago)

This thread misses the random googlers. Wish this thread could be exempt from having to register to post.

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 20:10 (eighteen years ago)

Hell yeah. It sure would make things more interesting around here.

Bimble, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 20:11 (eighteen years ago)

i love the part where they sing "eat drink & be merry for tomorrow we die"

deeznuts, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 20:12 (eighteen years ago)

Doing something outside the norm of what they're known for, the Nappy Roots are crossing genres in the New Year. Their latest is group member Skinny Deville's new collaboration with the Dave Matthews Band.

On their new single, titled "A Divine Intervention At 55th," the group crosses sounds between rock and hip-hop. How did it happen? Well, Deville said the team up came about after the two hooked up while on tour, an experience he said he can barely explain.

"I was high every hour back then and I have never seen anything like it [touring and performing with the Dave Matthews Band]," said Skinny Deville. "People were camped out as if it was a KOA Campground. We did two nights in each city because of the attendance. I do remember the food was excellent and the beer was cold [backstage with DMB]. They balled out more than the biggest rapper could have. We had one bus and they had like ten black matching buses, with every member of the band having their own bus. They were baller status for real."

lots of folx in my apt building were stockin up the 30 racks & goin to this today. they got nailed for abt 30 minutes w/ passing t-storms and v. hard rain lol

johnny crunch, Saturday, 14 June 2008 23:07 (seventeen years ago)

Those "only jealous because they sell" comments are particularly funny, considering a large portion of the ILM posters are into stuff that is considerably more mainstream (as in appealing to really young kids and everything) than Dave Matthews has ever been.

Geir Hongro, Monday, 16 June 2008 09:32 (seventeen years ago)

And btw. the only thing this thread needs to be really complete is that Dave Matthews himself finds the thread on Google and does a post here.

Geir Hongro, Monday, 16 June 2008 09:35 (seventeen years ago)

FUCK All of you. Dave Matthews is the SHIT!!!!

Geir Hongro, Monday, 16 June 2008 09:37 (seventeen years ago)

hongro gets aggro

RabiesAngentleman, Monday, 16 June 2008 09:41 (seventeen years ago)

I played DMB at the gym the other week. And then I realized...I played them at the gym ten years ago. wow.

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Monday, 16 June 2008 09:42 (seventeen years ago)

They came from my hometown, folks. I have a right to talk, etc.

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Monday, 16 June 2008 09:43 (seventeen years ago)

Has your hometown expressed a public apology yet, I mean, like Canada did for Bryan Adams?

Geir Hongro, Monday, 16 June 2008 12:33 (seventeen years ago)

Hahahah.

Bimble, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 23:12 (seventeen years ago)

How is this thread still going?

Alex in NYC, Thursday, 19 June 2008 11:28 (seventeen years ago)

elan, Wednesday, 20 August 2008 03:17 (seventeen years ago)

It's a good thing it wasn't Dave Matthews himself, as they'd have to change the name to just 'The Band', and I think that's already taken.

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 August 2008 03:57 (seventeen years ago)

One of my fave songs of theirs has his sax all over it - "Lover Lay Down".

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Wednesday, 20 August 2008 05:16 (seventeen years ago)

BBC news headline "Dave Matthews Band founder dies"

conrad, Wednesday, 20 August 2008 11:57 (seventeen years ago)

R.I.P.

CaptainLorax, Wednesday, 20 August 2008 19:57 (seventeen years ago)

Let's stop with the fetishization of the black musician, shall we?

skygreenleopard, Thursday, 21 August 2008 03:00 (seventeen years ago)

yeah like they only have ONE...

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Thursday, 21 August 2008 08:43 (seventeen years ago)

which may have been your whole joke, and if it was I apologize, but really folks...I know DMB is our fave punching bag here and I'm okay with that but for god's sake someone died here. Let's give it a rest for a bit, eh?

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Thursday, 21 August 2008 08:49 (seventeen years ago)

I was more making fun of one of the original posters here who said something ridiculous and stupid about this guy. I agree, though - RIP.

skygreenleopard, Friday, 22 August 2008 09:16 (seventeen years ago)

I was never really a fan, BUT:

a) respect is due to an awesome musician
and
b) my GOD, "Two Step" is an awesome son, thanks in no small part to Moore's
sax riffs.

Rest in peace, sir.

Tantrum The Cat, Saturday, 23 August 2008 01:08 (seventeen years ago)

awesome *SONG*, etc, etc.

Tantrum The Cat, Saturday, 23 August 2008 01:09 (seventeen years ago)

Ants Marching, anyone?

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Saturday, 23 August 2008 02:20 (seventeen years ago)

"Two Step" is an awesome son

Kind of weird name though. A bit like Dzeewil, Moon Lit, Zowie and Fifi Trixibelle..... :)

Geir Hongro, Saturday, 23 August 2008 18:40 (seventeen years ago)

Dweezil, I mean

Geir Hongro, Saturday, 23 August 2008 18:41 (seventeen years ago)

two weeks pass...

This Willie Nelson cover pisses all over Matthews' horrible overblown original version.

Also it doesn't matter where you pause the video, you're guaranteed to capture Willie pulling any one of a number of LOL expressions.

James Mitchell, Friday, 12 September 2008 18:43 (seventeen years ago)

overblown? that would seem to apply to those guitars far more than dave's acoustic version. i guess you're referring to the vocals? dave's version is a hell of a lot more expressive than willie, who seems to be having a conversation while making some funny faces. or were you giving him extra points for his iconicity and vocal tone?

gabbneb, Friday, 12 September 2008 19:56 (seventeen years ago)

willie's kinda like cassandra wilson here - interpretation that's worthwhile on its own terms but is only faintly expressive of the song itself

gabbneb, Friday, 12 September 2008 20:05 (seventeen years ago)

eight months pass...

I just wanted to add that I read this whole damn post. Yay for me! Some funny shit, other than that band member's death. Anyway, I see it as my American Duty to revive this thread, to let freedom ring!

musicfanatic, Monday, 18 May 2009 00:03 (seventeen years ago)

hahahahaha

More Goth Than Your Grandmother (Bimble), Monday, 18 May 2009 00:04 (seventeen years ago)

Oh, on a side note: I have two dear friends who love DMB - and they both are lawyers. :-)

But that also means that I've been dragged to more DMB concerts than I care to admit
(OK, I admit - four). I'm not much of a concert-going person, but it's still strange to realize that nearly half of the concerts I've attended were those of the DMB. If you saw my record collection you'd understand. Anyway, carry on.

I was at Virginia Beach '97. During the jam, Mr. Moore was playing - or at least pretending to play - two saxophones at once.
