i know this is sort of a lame request, but i would really appreciate it if i could get any feedback about my new mix (three posts up)

i really appreciated the feedback i got last time - which basically came down to "stop fucking around w/ EQ and effects and just mix the damn tracks - and i think this latest mix is a huge improvement thanks to that feedback. i know that pretty much all of the tracks on it are really overplayed and probably totally old hat to everyone but maybe some of you could take a minute to just check out the transitions and flow?

yeah sorry i said i'd give reaction to your mix ages ago, i have listened to it running but not properly digested, and that's the old one. will check the new one, i know how it is when you do a mix...

i love it v4h1d. so many gorgeous tracks. and so... tech-housey? in many places. which i LOVE.

i am very envious of your patience with a mix. it's something i absolutely do not have. you wait until a good half an hour in to turn it loose, and it's thrilling.

if i had anything i'd want to change it would be to maybe put a "songier" track in earlier, to hook us in. but i'm not sure you'd want advice from me - my problem is exactly the opposite, that i want them ALL to be "songs", which relates to my other problem, not giving any breathing room. you have to let the beats fall away sometimes, let people breathe and regroup. you do this really well i think. you're great at pace and building up.

other things i liked -

- when the live percussion starts coming in more. it's like OK, let's sweat
- the sense of menace that everything starts with

this is one from da club one friday and I'm very pleased with - the "holy shit! this might work!" feeling I got when I mixed in It Takes Two over Cruel Intentions and let them both run was one that I hadn't had for a long time! Resolved to going back to more risky track overlays from now on.

Last summer I listened to a lot of psychedelic music from all over the world. One of the ‘scenes’ I really got into was the Turkish ‘Anadolu’-rock scene. While listening to a lot of these fuzzy tracks I was really surprised when I discovered that quite some tracks released by The Gaslamp Killer & Gonjasufi are so close to the original Turkish songs… they’re just slightly altered, edited and have a voice-over by Kutmah.

I was even more surprised when I tried to upload this recording onto Soundcloud and it got blocked for “copyright infringement”. I got a message that said my mixtape was recognised as “The Gaslamp Killer – Kobwebs” and belonged to the rightsholder Milan Records.

After submitting my counter notice and waiting for a week, I contacted Soundcloud again and explained them that the whole idea of this mixtape is to shake up the discussion about copyright, sampling, etc… I even send them links to videos from both tracks so they could compare.

Today, it’s been a month…. and still no word. So I taught I’ll try fooling the new ‘copyright-robot’ at Soundcloud by just putting an excerpt from Cassetteboy’s Parker Tapes at the start of the mix, upload this and see what happens. And yes……. this time no problem with getting my favorite Turks online!
