I'm just bummed because I truly meant this from a good place and I'm catching a lot of flak, when other posters have spouted a lot of intentionally hateful stuff without this much abuse for it.

eh, I dunno what to tell you — when life gives you lemons... don't make it about race
― bernard snowy, Thursday, 7 April 2011 22:16 (thirteen years ago) link
this is probably pertinent

this board has a long sad history of jonophobia, but at this point I don't know if there's anything any one of us can do about it, it's a pretty institutionalized mentality

jon if you make an authoritative claim that a group of people has an ingrained cultural attitude and then say, "don't ask me to back up what i'm saying at all" and then act all victimized when others take offense at your generalization...i mean.

Okay, I apologize again for the way it was framed.

why is that lil b song pertinent?
― Bleeqwot the Chef (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 7 April 2011 22:57 (thirteen years ago) link
lil b plays with homophobia in hip hop, especially with his (fake) group called bitch mob, who put out a new song today
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 7 April 2011 23:01 (thirteen years ago) link
other than the fact the thing is called bitch mob, it was just all about getting blowjobs from women....i guess outside of calling himself a bitch sometimes i don't really see how he's different from like any other rapper

I told a friend a few months ago to perform an experiment: imagine listening to songs, 97% of which are not written by, for, or to you.
I get what you're driving at, but I don't listen to music to "relate" or "identify" with the performers or subjects.
― jaymc, Thursday, 7 April 2011 23:07 (thirteen years ago) link
huh lil b wrote a song based on frogbs' college radio show

didnt someone already do some kind of statistical analysis that suggested that homophobia tied more closely to level of religion than race in any meaningful way
i mean i know you cant tell who was raised christian by looking at a twitpic the way you can tell if a twitterer is black butalso black ppl are on twitter to a larger degree than white ppl iircand hip hop regardless of race tends to attract ppl into a hypermasculine mode of thinkingand of course homophobic white ppl seem to have a tendency to make it about their oppression, i.e. the pc police dont let me say x any more, rather than saying things outright
i dunno there are lots of things w/ jon's post that seem off to me, in addition to what djp already listed
― timbo slice (D-40), Friday, 8 April 2011 01:23 (thirteen years ago) link
to be honest jon i think what went thru a lot of ppl's heads when you brought it up that way was, 'wtf didnt we already do this' because back when prop whatever it was in cali passed this exact same discussion shot around every message board & blog discussion remotely related to politics, so bringing it up again wasnt just wrong on its face, but old news too
― timbo slice (D-40), Friday, 8 April 2011 01:25 (thirteen years ago) link
also when i did a #mrcee search i wasn't bombarded w/ an onslaught of homophobia, and it wasn't virulent homophobia either that you see from, for instance, religious white ppl -- i even saw a few people too that said "the point is not that it was a dude"

this was mainly my issue
basically american culture is homophobic period & trying to dice it up into little groups really doesnt seem pertinent

fwiw it's not like running a Mr. Cee search on any website is going to bring up NICE remarks right now -- only mean/derisive ones with the occasional defense. it's not like he proudly came out of the closet and people, he got busted for something that's at least mildly embarrassing regardless of your feelings on homosexuality.

p sure that if jeff gordon* (WHITE PEOPLE) got busted getting blowed by a dude the "twitterscape" (<---suicidable word right there) would be just as bleak.

gbx, gordon is still competitive, but the dude at work that's into it says he's maybe slipped a bit and i guess some NASCAR rule changes in recent years about how they keep score weren't favorable to gordon
well
you know
i kinda regret even posting anything at all
so sorry
i was just bummed out for mr. cee
this must be kinda difficult to go through with

boggling at the idea of "rules"
i mean obv there are rules, but like is there inside nascar nerdery going on where ppl are thinking "well gordon's a classic driver, he stays near the front and attacks late in the game when he sees an advantage. unfortunately, he's not great in the heat, and when it's 90+degrees outside hooboy he'll just slide to the back like a dew drop down a corn husk"
for real: "scoring?" wtf is up w/nascar
― FUN FUN FUN FUN (gbx), Friday, 8 April 2011 02:27 (thirteen years ago) link
they tried to make it more like a 'normal' sport in an effort to attract more fans
i.e. they instituted a playoff-esque format
― J0rdan S., Friday, 8 April 2011 02:28 (thirteen years ago) link
yeah i guess it's basically like you get points for a season, based on how you place in races....i think now they've skewed it so you get a lot more points for winning races as opposed to, say, placing 5th or something...so my impression was gordon was more of a steady-eddie type that would consistently place in the top 10 of races but not necessarily win a lot of races like jimmy johnson, so he was "penalized" by how they changed the scoring...
then obv the chase for the cup, which is kinda like the "playoffs" jordan is talking about....
i dunno, a couple people at work are really into it and so they tell me about it and i guess lots of hardcore nascar fans feel like nascar "sold out" or something
