phh. can't
Yeah it's great. I love the melody of the title track but I keep sitting listening to it thinking - is this what I think is great? then the last minute or so kills me every time.
God. No - I'm wrong. The whole thing is awesome.

― lol sickmouthy (Scik Mouthy), Thursday, 19 May 2011 17:26 (fifteen years ago)
See the list at the top of the thread Mouthy. It's kind of similar, but more house-based. Worth looking at. Think you might like Mi Mujer, and El Bandido.

I like his edit of The Beach. Nothin special, just slowed down and less jerky.
― lol is not enough (blank), Wednesday, 10 August 2011 22:43 (fourteen years ago)
i have a question about his production (and i know nothing about production so please humour me).
the records that he puts out have a very idiosyncratic sound, it seems to me. appropriately, perhaps(given the album title) i'll describe it in spatial terms because i think that way. each sound sounds very separated from all the others, it's almost like each sound is a sphere of sound within a room and that sphere is travelling forward but not colliding with the other parts of the mix. that individual (spherical) sound is very separated from the other sounds within the mix and those other sounds occupy a similar separated space - each sound had a field around it which prevents it from touching the other sounds in the mix, does that make sense? amazingly he does make those separated sound make a whole
i love this effect but, at the same time, i find it wearing to listen to at a stretch. i can't listen to "space is only noise" from beginning to end, it's too taxing.
so the question is, does he have a unique talent here? or are other producers capable of achieving this effect but realise that used, over a long stretch, it can have a negative effect and so hold back from using it too much?
or possibly you just disagree with me or don't get that sonic overload effect that i do.
or maybe you just think i'm talking nonsense!
― jed_, Wednesday, 10 August 2011 23:00 (fourteen years ago)
(that is really garbled, sorry, but i don't really have the language to discuss these things)
― jed_, Wednesday, 10 August 2011 23:01 (fourteen years ago)
i don't know, but you're making me want to listen to this stuff again!
maybe i'm just jaded and hard to thrill these days but a lot of his stuff sounds really interesting and beautiful but doesn't give me the sort of kick i look for in this sort of music. maybe it's a phase.

jed's description is why "Space Is Only Noise" is making me think I need a new home system
