I really like the re-recordings of Le Secret...as charming as the original tracks are, the new versions are a lot richer sounding, more depth.
― A. Begrand, Sunday, 3 April 2011 21:04 (fifteen years ago)
he re-recorded the whole album?
― borntohula, Monday, 4 April 2011 01:20 (fifteen years ago)
Well, the album as in both 13 minute tracks. But the originals are also on the new reissue, which is a smart move.
― A. Begrand, Monday, 4 April 2011 01:25 (fifteen years ago)
i already said that!
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 4 April 2011 08:17 (fifteen years ago)

Liturgy's "Generations" sounds a lot like Circle.

― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF)
^^ true. didn't enjoyed it that much tho, but still looking fwd for the album.
haven't listened to that much bm this year. so far, these are the ones i enjoyed most :
mamaleek - kurdaitchaarts - vault of heaven (side project from one of the ancestors guys)
haven't listened to blut aus nord's latest. and have to listen negative plane more carefully.
― rusty_allen, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 16:58 (fifteen years ago)
Liturgy album is great!
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 6 April 2011 00:53 (fifteen years ago)
I don't think sounding like Circle is a bad thing at all, but it's not a particularly black metal thing. Of course the album is on Thrill Jockey which is more likely to release an album by Circle than it would by most metal acts.
― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 6 April 2011 00:59 (fifteen years ago)
Holy shit that Liturgy track. Is the whole album like this??? Neeeeeed this.

been seeing a lot of hate toward liturgy lately. i'm still eager to hear the new record though. have people always been pretty critical of these guys, or is it just happening now because of their growing popularity?
― borntohula, Wednesday, 6 April 2011 03:28 (fifteen years ago)
christ almighty, "generation" is one awesome track.
― borntohula, Wednesday, 6 April 2011 03:34 (fifteen years ago)
Anyone who uses black metal as a springboard towards something a little different and new rather than spewing Satanic/anti-Christian rhetoric is certain to be met with scorn from purists.
But who cares what they say, the new Liturgy is phenomenal.
― A. Begrand, Wednesday, 6 April 2011 03:41 (fifteen years ago)
a lot of hate has come from that interview they did, i know a bunch of ppl from dffd were moaning about it.
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 6 April 2011 11:51 (fifteen years ago)
saw liturgy live opening for shrinebuilder and thought they had promise. didn't love their first lp but this new track is way more to my liking. if the whole album sounds like a circle/meshuggah hybrid, then I will be very happy. kind of ridiculously catering to my personal tastes there.
― original bgm, Wednesday, 6 April 2011 11:56 (fifteen years ago)
what interview, ag?
― original bgm, Wednesday, 6 April 2011 11:57 (fifteen years ago)
if the whole album sounds like a circle/meshuggah hybrid, then I will be very happy
that's not how I'd've described it, for the most part it's fairly faithful-sounding BM but w/ more fucked up drumming and some Glen Branca walls of guitar here and there
I think it's terrific
― 1000 Vults Of Nult (DJ Mencap), Wednesday, 6 April 2011 12:20 (fifteen years ago)
This interview:

― that's not funny. (unperson), Wednesday, 6 April 2011 12:35 (fifteen years ago)
wow, those are some public speaking skills alrightfor me it's not what that guy (righty) saying, but the way he says itso so so so "we're all sensitive" guy not quite as lol, but maybe i just don't watch these interviews much?
i like their music ok though
― Ralpharina (La Lechera), Wednesday, 6 April 2011 13:14 (fifteen years ago)
ooof, that interview.
hmm. like I said, haven't heard the album yet, but the new emphasis on using playful time sigs in a hypnotic, repetitive way on "generation" was definitely what I was vibing on. what you're describing sounds pretty good but I could definitely go for a whole album of tracks working the "generation" model.
― original bgm, Wednesday, 6 April 2011 14:21 (fifteen years ago)
My wife (watching that Liturgy interview over my shoulder): "They make black metal? They look like indie boys."
Me: "They're from Brooklyn."
Wife: "Ah."
― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 6 April 2011 14:43 (fifteen years ago)
hahaha
― original bgm, Wednesday, 6 April 2011 14:52 (fifteen years ago)
you mean " yeah, it's like, they so so so so do make black metal? but yeah it's i dunno not like black metal black metal so yeah um they're from brooklyn"
― Ralpharina (La Lechera), Wednesday, 6 April 2011 14:56 (fifteen years ago)
No I mean "they look like indie boys cuz they live in Brooklyn."
― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 6 April 2011 15:04 (fifteen years ago)
― Algerian Goalkeeper,
^^ have you listened to the album? how's it like?
i enjoyed 'high gold' way more than 'generation', prob because i was way more into that kind of stop/start instrumental dynamics a couple years back (when i was into don cabarello, june of 44 et. al). nowadays it just kind of, err, bores me? (not that i found 'generation' bad, by all means. only not that much interesting)
also looking fwd for the new weakling...
btw, are there any recent releases by bone awl? the alkerdeel record from last year was A+
― rusty_allen, Wednesday, 6 April 2011 15:06 (fifteen years ago)
but you could close your eyes and still hear it in the way they talkedthat's what i meantdoesn't matter if they look like hanson or noti just never ever want to hear them speak extemporaneously ever again
― Ralpharina (La Lechera), Wednesday, 6 April 2011 15:15 (fifteen years ago)
i didn't think there was anything wrong with that interview?
― adult music person (Jordan), Wednesday, 6 April 2011 15:28 (fifteen years ago)
Got the new Krallice in today's mail.
― that's not funny. (unperson), Wednesday, 6 April 2011 15:28 (fifteen years ago)
I'm supposed to interview Liturgy dude for a mag I will not name (not a metal mag, but not The Wire either). I hope he's less of a d-bag when we talk, otherwise the recording will contain many, many slapping sounds.
― that's not funny. (unperson), Wednesday, 6 April 2011 15:30 (fifteen years ago)
make sure to note them in the transcript

New Krallice album = awesome.
― that's not funny. (unperson), Wednesday, 6 April 2011 18:14 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah, that dude is pretentious and punchable as fuck, and his band looks utterly uncomfortable throughout - you can see them thinking "oh, dude, don't say THAT," but just like when some folks here were talking about how Oneohtrix comes off in interviews, I kinda respect his complete candor and the fact that I think he KNOWS he's being a pompous ass. Dude would be making a lot more friends by towing the line, but he clearly doesn't give a shit. Gotta respect that.
Dude to the immediate right of Hunt Hendrix or whatever his name is a dead ringer for Eddie Vedder, btw.
― If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Wednesday, 6 April 2011 18:20 (fifteen years ago)
"transcendental black metal manifesto" aside, most of that interview was them talking pretty bluntly about how they put together & perform their music, which i liked
