how long as arcade fire been playing w/ them

second time I saw them (Jan 2008) they had 1-2 AF members on stage every second song, but that was bcz they were travelling with the same festival

I've seen them both with and without [Al Doyle], and with him is always more energetic.

yes - saw them twice with, and twice without, and the first "with" was waayyyyy above a "without"

(though the second without was a Hot Chip double-header where Al didn't play with them, but Joe Goddard had stayed in the northern hemisphere, so he'd already had to be #2 in one band already. they only played two cities, and apparently he was playing in the wings for LCD in Melbourne.)

Expected the crowd to be 99% white. Didn't expect it to be 99% male (though I don't know why I wouldn't have).

Gender mix was more like 60/40 at the T5 show I went to.

da croupier, Sunday, 3 April 2011 12:17 (fifteen years ago)

I didn't really scope out the footage from this show but it is worth remembering that tall dudes would stick out more in pans of heads mid-stream

(Toby, I am the ilxor formerly known as Mary. How is America treating you?)

The band didn't break for over a half hour after the first set? Maybe they came
back but it was so boring that I didn't notice? I think breaking up the sets like that was NAGL.

As, dmr, you should have gone in my place! Unless you are jealous of my drinking endless vodka sodas while cursing my circumstances.

Virginia Plain, Monday, 4 April 2011 12:25 (fifteen years ago)

(Hi Mary! America is treating me very well, although we are moving back to London in six months, in fact.)

I think you had a very different experience of the show than I did - admittedly a different night, but on Thursday they were off stage for under 5 mins before coming back for 45:33 (which admittedly is more instrumental, but hardly a DJ set...). I think they were offstage for under 10 minutes in 3+1/4 hours, in fact. But I found it pretty much the opposite of boring.

i'm kind of amazed someone who imagined 2 half-hour DJ sets in a show that featured no DJ sets would still be offering their opinion on the show's quality.

da croupier, Monday, 4 April 2011 12:49 (fifteen years ago)

like, sorry you didn't enjoy the show you weren't watching!

da croupier, Monday, 4 April 2011 12:49 (fifteen years ago)

not to mention that if you were "plotting your escape" before they played "I Can Change" you were plotting said escape before the third song in the setlist

da croupier, Monday, 4 April 2011 12:51 (fifteen years ago)

Ah, sorry guys, I really didn't realize that they had come back! No offence. It was really hard to see once I decamped from my original position.

Virginia Plain, Monday, 4 April 2011 12:54 (fifteen years ago)

Who was the long haired dude behind the keyboards/playing drums maybe at one point/etc? It doesn't look like Gavin Russom but maybe it is?

ToeJam & Lewis (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 4 April 2011 16:46 (fifteen years ago)

That video doesn't relay just how AWESOME the big moment in Dance Yrself Clean was. I was up on the side and could see the whole arena. Explosions of glo-sticks and an anticipatory yells from the audience. I was feeling really ill and was sure I shouldn't have gone until that moment. So worth it.

Gukbe, Monday, 4 April 2011 17:08 (fifteen years ago)

Not Russom - he looks like this now:

Ha yeah I keep trying to find YouTube clips to show ppl and stuff and I just keep thinking "it wasn't like this at ALL"

ToeJam & Lewis (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 4 April 2011 20:02 (fifteen years ago)

Can someone please list all the musicians who were playing with LCD on the last show even if they just played on one or two songs?

Thanks in advance.

Godspeed HOOS! Black Steendriver (BIG HOOS aka the steendriver), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 03:35 (fifteen years ago)

crowd reaction during the hits (less so for the B-sides, though people were grooving) was great throughout.

Gukbe, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 03:38 (fifteen years ago)
