Lol yeah there were strobe warnings at T5, and then there was a complete visual assault of like 5 minutes of intense strobing at the end of one of the sets

Totally downloading the video rip tomorrow but srsly nothing can rly come close to the live experience

ToeJam & Lewis (Stevie D(eux)), Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:55 (fifteen years ago)

Dude wasn't exactly doing high kicks tuesday, but his voice definitely seems wearier, surprised how little the back-up seems to differ from what I saw at T5 - I figured they'd really go (wah wah) Stop Making Sense with the backdrops or something, but it looks like the same lighting rig from the stream

da croupier, Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:56 (fifteen years ago)

i did hear they crowdsourced some airplane window footage, dunno if that's been displayed yet

da croupier, Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:57 (fifteen years ago)

Totally agree re: "Yeah", thought the same thing at the time.

But yeah, feeling the bass/seeing shapes in your eyes from the strobing/observing everyone else going just as apeshit as you/all of the above, omg Jesus lawd god baby Jesus god

ToeJam & Lewis (Stevie D(eux)), Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:59 (fifteen years ago)

James appears to be totally spent. Yeah and Tribulations both suffered because of his exhaustion but this band, even without James, is top tier.

Who is the guy grooving in the white gas station attendant suit next to Gavin Russom?

brotherlovesdub, Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:59 (fifteen years ago)

"Yeah" and "Someone Great" are 2/3rds of my holy LCD trinity...if they roll out "Losing My Edge" next, I won't know what to do.

Uteruses Before Duderuses (Johnny Fever), Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:59 (fifteen years ago)

dude jf they've basically just added some covers to the T5 setlist, stop acting like this is a mystery: http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/lcd-soundsystem/2011/terminal-5-new-york-ny-13d24d59.html

fyi i'm not sticking around to bitch about it or anything - they didn't add "jump in the fire" to the setlist until wed or thurs, and I'd love to see it tonight

da croupier, Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:00 (fifteen years ago)

I've seen a lot of signs lately at shows warning of "extensive strobe lights," which has made me wonder: if you are epileptic, do you have to call the venue first to see if there are going to be extensive strobe lights? Or do you just show up that night, see the sign, shrug and go home?

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:02 (fifteen years ago)

O HOLY SHIT xp

Uteruses Before Duderuses (Johnny Fever), Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:02 (fifteen years ago)

dude jf they've basically just added some covers to the T5 setlist, stop acting like this is a mystery:

Man, I didn't even care about this until about 10 seconds before I decided to watch it, so it's not like I've been keeping track of setlists.

Uteruses Before Duderuses (Johnny Fever), Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:03 (fifteen years ago)

Oh, I see: Russom shaved!

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:03 (fifteen years ago)

Wait, or did he?

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:04 (fifteen years ago)

This is very important stuff!

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:04 (fifteen years ago)

Do think Al Doyle adds a lot to the band, in terms of movement and activity. I've seen them both with and without him, and with him is always more energetic.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:07 (fifteen years ago)

Ha, "We could do this for another hour ... I paid for this so I should know ... "

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:11 (fifteen years ago)

He just ended Losing My Edge by saying 'we can do this for another hour if we want, I'm game'

brotherlovesdub, Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:11 (fifteen years ago)

We heard it slightly different but the sentiment is the same.

brotherlovesdub, Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:12 (fifteen years ago)

Just read on the LCD forums that Spike Jones is filming for the DVD release.

brotherlovesdub, Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:14 (fifteen years ago)

i don't know if i've ever been as gassed as murphy seems right now

Clay, Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:14 (fifteen years ago)

like i am almost worried about him

Clay, Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:17 (fifteen years ago)

Ha before just checking wikipedia now I didn't connect that this dude is the same dude from Hot Chip

da croupier, Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:18 (fifteen years ago)

and yeah, without him on stage this really would just be a bunch of folks behind drum sets and white walls of keyboards

da croupier, Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:19 (fifteen years ago)

Ouch..

Wacky Way Lounge (Evan), Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:26 (fifteen years ago)

Too bad JM has spent the whole set fucking with his earpiece.

brotherlovesdub, Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:27 (fifteen years ago)

That's pretty par for a LCD show.

Poor James Murphy. You know you don't have to break up, guy! Just go on hiatus. It's easy.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:28 (fifteen years ago)

FYI they cut 8 songs from the MSG setlist for the Monday/28th show

ToeJam & Lewis (Stevie D(eux)), Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:33 (fifteen years ago)

Expected the crowd to be 99% white. Didn't expect it to be 99% male (though I don't know why I wouldn't have).

Uteruses Before Duderuses (Johnny Fever), Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:34 (fifteen years ago)

omg are they playing the twin peaks theme???

Clay, Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:39 (fifteen years ago)

NY I Love You is the worst LCD song ever. Shame they close with it all the time. Guess it's a good time to leave and beat the traffic.

brotherlovesdub, Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:39 (fifteen years ago)

NYC is overrated too.

brotherlovesdub, Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:42 (fifteen years ago)

Does Al drag that Telecaster behind the bus from city to city?

Uteruses Before Duderuses (Johnny Fever), Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:45 (fifteen years ago)

xp Plz go choke on a black bean burger

ToeJam & Lewis (Stevie D(eux)), Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:45 (fifteen years ago)

r.i.p.

Clay, Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:48 (fifteen years ago)

It was a fun time these past few years.

Uteruses Before Duderuses (Johnny Fever), Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:50 (fifteen years ago)

Ya Brian you were a good poster and all sry you died

ToeJam & Lewis (Stevie D(eux)), Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:54 (fifteen years ago)

:( he had actual tears there. poor James. nicest DJ we ever had play for us.

piscesx, Sunday, 3 April 2011 05:02 (fifteen years ago)

can't even bust out some blink 182 for this tbh :(

markers, Sunday, 3 April 2011 05:06 (fifteen years ago)

how long as arcade fire been playing w/ them

second time I saw them (Jan 2008) they had 1-2 AF members on stage every second song, but that was bcz they were travelling with the same festival

I've seen them both with and without [Al Doyle], and with him is always more energetic.

yes - saw them twice with, and twice without, and the first "with" was waayyyyy above a "without"

(though the second without was a Hot Chip double-header where Al didn't play with them, but Joe Goddard had stayed in the northern hemisphere, so he'd already had to be #2 in one band already. they only played two cities, and apparently he was playing in the wings for LCD in Melbourne.)

it's in my backpack (sic), Sunday, 3 April 2011 08:34 (fifteen years ago)

Expected the crowd to be 99% white. Didn't expect it to be 99% male (though I don't know why I wouldn't have).

Gender mix was more like 60/40 at the T5 show I went to.

da croupier, Sunday, 3 April 2011 12:17 (fifteen years ago)

I didn't really scope out the footage from this show but it is worth remembering that tall dudes would stick out more in pans of heads mid-stream

da croupier, Sunday, 3 April 2011 12:18 (fifteen years ago)

(Toby, I am the ilxor formerly known as Mary. How is America treating you?)

The band didn't break for over a half hour after the first set? Maybe they came
back but it was so boring that I didn't notice? I think breaking up the sets like that was NAGL.

As, dmr, you should have gone in my place! Unless you are jealous of my drinking endless vodka sodas while cursing my circumstances.

Virginia Plain, Monday, 4 April 2011 12:25 (fifteen years ago)

(Hi Mary! America is treating me very well, although we are moving back to London in six months, in fact.)

I think you had a very different experience of the show than I did - admittedly a different night, but on Thursday they were off stage for under 5 mins before coming back for 45:33 (which admittedly is more instrumental, but hardly a DJ set...). I think they were offstage for under 10 minutes in 3+1/4 hours, in fact. But I found it pretty much the opposite of boring.

toby, Monday, 4 April 2011 12:45 (fifteen years ago)

i'm kind of amazed someone who imagined 2 half-hour DJ sets in a show that featured no DJ sets would still be offering their opinion on the show's quality.

da croupier, Monday, 4 April 2011 12:49 (fifteen years ago)

like, sorry you didn't enjoy the show you weren't watching!

da croupier, Monday, 4 April 2011 12:49 (fifteen years ago)

not to mention that if you were "plotting your escape" before they played "I Can Change" you were plotting said escape before the third song in the setlist
