I just bought Out of the Cradle. Seems good so far (his guitar playing is, as always, amazingly clean and crisp (and he can be bluesy, too)). Crazy comparison, but Surrender the Rain sounds a little like a Richard Hawley song, to me (not a bad thing at all!).
Anyone else have this disc? Like it?
― Daniel, Esq., Sunday, 20 January 2008 15:41 (eighteen years ago)
beautiful record. probably his best solo record.
― Zeno, Sunday, 20 January 2008 16:13 (eighteen years ago)
Haven't heard it in years, but I agree it's his best, with consistently beautiful guitar. "Soul Drifter" and "Turn it On" (is that the right title?) are favorites.
― Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Sunday, 20 January 2008 17:51 (eighteen years ago)
I know they're solo discs, but now I'm wishing that Buckingham gave his solo songs more of a full-band feel. Down on Rodeo, for instance, from Under the Skin, has a great SoCal-drenched band feel (obv., the presence of Fleetwood Mac and John McVie helps), and it worked beautifully.
― Daniel, Esq., Sunday, 20 January 2008 18:11 (eighteen years ago)
Buckingham is god.
― jim, Sunday, 20 January 2008 20:30 (eighteen years ago)
UH
I guess that's more true than "Clapton is God," but still...
Classic (but not god).
― Rock Hardy, Sunday, 20 January 2008 20:40 (eighteen years ago)
He's a brilliant guitarist. I'm pleased at the love he's getting on this thread, instead of just hailing him as a mere singing/songwriting/producing genius. My favourite Lindsey look is the besuited, droopy afro'ed one on the inside sleeve of the 1975 album. Someone post an image, please!
― Ismael Klata, Sunday, 20 January 2008 22:39 (eighteen years ago)
he turns 60 this year
― omar little, Sunday, 20 January 2008 22:45 (eighteen years ago)
60? Wow. He looks younger. See the photo on the cover of Under the Skin.
― Daniel, Esq., Sunday, 20 January 2008 22:58 (eighteen years ago)
He is classic for "Tango In The Night" alone. Although that album is usually underrated when compared to their most popular mid 70s work.
― Geir Hongro, Sunday, 20 January 2008 23:05 (eighteen years ago)
He's classic for a lot of the Fleetwood Mac stuff, but his solo discs have a very different sound and feel (not worse, by any means, just v. different).
― Daniel, Esq., Monday, 21 January 2008 00:06 (eighteen years ago)
I may be misreading, but it looks like Under The Skin is available from Amazon for 99 cents.
― dlp9001, Monday, 21 January 2008 01:48 (eighteen years ago)
'Under the Skin' was a tremendously strong album. Man, such a shame that it barely received any attention at all.
― Stormy Davis, Monday, 21 January 2008 02:42 (eighteen years ago)
Sadly, I'm not surprised. It's amazing to me that such a talented -- and successful (with his band) -- artist has had such trouble finding an audience.
― Daniel, Esq., Monday, 21 January 2008 03:00 (eighteen years ago)
maybe thats because he became too old for the youngsters and too "arty" and minimalist for the mainstream listeners. or u can blame it on bad marketing.
― Zeno, Monday, 21 January 2008 17:50 (eighteen years ago)
I still spin "Go Insane" on Dj nights. Such a great single.
― Nate Carson, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 00:25 (eighteen years ago)
Under the Skin is very nice, yes. I thought I'd never want to hear another Stones cover until "I Am Waiting" started to play.

yes, it was. vaguely hoping for a full electric/weird pop new album, though.

so what do you think of Buckingham's new single "did you miss me"? (Gift Of Screws coming out in Sep.):

― Zeno, Sunday, 10 August 2008 17:42 (seventeen years ago)
I wonder what's going to be on it, since a lot of "Gift of Screws" (as originally planned) wound up on Say You Will. I'm really excited to finally get the title track on CD, since it's one of my favorite FM related songs.
― dlp9001, Sunday, 10 August 2008 17:51 (seventeen years ago)
i don't know, but the Track List is totally different from the original GoS.:
"Great Day"
"Time Precious Time"
"Did You Miss Me"
"Wait For You"
"Love Runs Deeper"
"Bel Air Rain"
"The Right Place to Fade"
"Gift of Screws"
"Underground"
"Treason"
― Zeno, Sunday, 10 August 2008 17:53 (seventeen years ago)
early reviews says the new GoS is somewhere in between Under the Skin kinda songs and more "rock" songs like "did you miss me"
― Zeno, Sunday, 10 August 2008 17:55 (seventeen years ago)
(except for GoS, the song, which is on both, and is an awesome song btw):

wait, which album is "Somebody's gonna change your mind" on? I thought it was the demos for this I had it in. If so, that was the best one, weird to have left it off. This should be good, I think a part of me actually prefers solo Lindsey.
― I know, right?, Sunday, 10 August 2008 19:06 (seventeen years ago)
"Somebody's gonna change your mind" - it's in Under The Skin (awesome song ineed)
― Zeno, Sunday, 10 August 2008 19:13 (seventeen years ago)
Not really what you expect from the Buck
― I know, right?, Sunday, 10 August 2008 19:15 (seventeen years ago)
he probably just named the album GoS (almost) regardless of the previous unreleased recordings. most of the songs from that "album" later appeared/ruined on Fleetwood's albums and/or Under The Skin
― Zeno, Sunday, 10 August 2008 19:17 (seventeen years ago)
this song is swell, swell is this song

but yeah, that actually seems really obvious actually

i like Under the Skin's minimalist atmospheric sound- at it's best it as strong and classic as Suicide's debut.
― Zeno, Sunday, 10 August 2008 19:42 (seventeen years ago)
Best solo album remains Out of the Cradle, but it's not great.

loved the version of "Big Love" that he did on the reunion album (the dance or whatever), with the crazy fingerpicking. I was pissed that I couldn't play that super fast banjo-esque sounding part in the middle.

This is some scary shit, the guy has a crazed stalker:
The woman is known to Buckingham, 76, from past incidents, law enforcement sources said. An arrest is expected soon, they added.
Authorities said they believe the woman found out when and where Buckingham had an appointment and showed up at the location.
― birdistheword, Wednesday, 1 April 2026 20:56 (two months ago)
Bucky posted a video of him playing "Rhiannon" with the teaser "coming soon..."
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 13 April 2026 20:06 (one month ago)
I'd be very surprised if he did a tour with Stevie either as FM or Buckingham/Nicks, but who knows at this point.
― I? not I! He! He! HIM! (akm), Monday, 13 April 2026 20:33 (one month ago)
oh, if you go back to previous postings he just posts guitar videos and will post one focused on that song soon. way to get people's fucking hopes up
― I? not I! He! He! HIM! (akm), Monday, 13 April 2026 20:35 (one month ago)
He does, but in this case he picked a pretty conspicuous Stevie song, and the "coming soon ..." seems pretty unnecessary, given we know he posts guitar videos. Like, why play a bit of the song as a prelude to ... playing the song?
Anyway, my first reaction was tour with Stevie. Then I bet they'll tour again as a band, or play the Sphere, or some shit that makes a lot of money.

― fluffy tufts university (f. hazel), Tuesday, 14 April 2026 21:15 (one month ago)
The B/N reissue was a bit of a disappointment given that there were, uh, rumours for years that it was going to get a stacked edition with demos and extra stuff.
― Lithium Just Madison (C. Grisso/McCain), Tuesday, 14 April 2026 21:21 (one month ago)
yeah, especially given that theres a couple deluxe editions of all the FM albums they're on, box sets, full alternate albums, box sets of full alternate albums....
― encino morricone (majorairbro), Tuesday, 14 April 2026 21:49 (one month ago)
Yeah, it was so easy to get decent bootlegs - like good rips from good, clean vinyl copies - I don't think it would've been much of an event without some unheard bonus material. As-is, it was just "oh, a legit, affordable version from the original masters, how nice," but that's it.
― birdistheword, Wednesday, 15 April 2026 02:21 (one month ago)
I know it was brought up in interviews over the years, but weren't they usually open to releasing it, it was just more prosaic issues like "where are the masters"? I thought Nicks said that at one point, she and Buckingham were thinking of putting it out, but it physically wasn't possible for some reason.
― birdistheword, Wednesday, 15 April 2026 02:23 (one month ago)
This was from an interview promoting the new release, but it sounded like it was a disorganized mess and they just needed to get their act together to make it happen:
"It's like sharing ownership of an old car," Nicks, now 77, once said of the tangled rights to the album, which were split between herself, Buckingham, and producer Keith Olsen. "The stars never seemed to exactly align."
For Buckingham, 76 next month, the reasons for its disappearance were less clear. "One of Stevie's managers has the masters in her house," he said in an interview years later. Why? "Well, because somebody's got to have them somewhere. The politics of Fleetwood Mac are strange."
He added: "Better hurry up! That's all I can say."
