I think that song has Marilyn Wilson, wife (or at least ex) of Brian and mother of Carney and Wendy singing background vocals.

I only just realized recently after hearing it at least 100 times that the Robin McNamara who sang "Lay a Little Lovin' on Me" was a dude.
It kinda goes both ways in Zep's "Battle of Evermore"--half the time I can't tell if it's Robert Plant or Sandy Denny singing.

Grazie to RW for the fact-check on "Games People Play." But weirdly, the guy with the handlebar mustache sings the female part in this Soul Train clip:

That's pretty ridiculous, but I'm pretty sure that like American Bandstand, performers lip-synched to the single on Soul Train.

I had Horace Andy on one time and my mum came in and said "who's this woman you're listening to?" She also thought Nina Simone was a man once.

Yar. I went to a Books concert where Death Vessel was the opening band and I spent the whole opening song trying to decipher if it was a guy or a girl, both for the voice and the androgynous look.

The first time I heard Material Issue was "Kim the Waitress," which I could've sworn was sung by a woman with a husky voice (like Carla Bozulich), and I thought it was a lesbian-crush song.

The first time I heard "Border Song" on the radio when Elton's first record came out I was pretty sure "Elton" was just an unusual name for a woman.

There are a few as well. Thao Nguyen per example, i kept thinking it was a dude, I had to go to youtube to see the voice actually coming out of her to make sure it was a girl. Not that she has a very masculine voice, maybe all indie rock male singers are effeminate.
Also Courtney Love. I'm too young for Nirvana, so I first heard Hole through some friends and all the time I thought it was a dude singing until I saw a video.
