goin fi

'holding on' is the unsung hero of this album (which is so so good btw)

the way he sings "for all we know / this rocky road / would just be the transition to unstoppable" is orgasmic. p.s. i am 99% sure i got those lyrics wrong

holding on is great, yeah. love how the chorus sounds like it's just one note but secretly it's not

who is john nult? (dayo), Thursday, 31 March 2011 04:26 (fifteen years ago)

i'm pretty sure 'down on me' and 'wanna get up' have the exact same bridge

The leaks from Jeremih's upcoming mixtape have been one pleasant trifle after another

Evan R, Monday, 9 July 2012 20:09 (thirteen years ago)

yeah totally, wish he'd just put the tape out cos the tracks arent doing anything on their own but together it might all potentially be a vibed out little classic

what a funny career arc he's having, probably never more popular and respected right now but never less likely to have a solo hit again

r|t|c, Thursday, 12 July 2012 09:26 (thirteen years ago)

I don't know how popular or respected he is, at least outside of ILM. I think a lot of people find the boyish tint of his voice annoying.

Agree his window might be closing. Bei Maejor is kind of doing the same thing, but with more gravity.

Evan R, Thursday, 12 July 2012 13:43 (thirteen years ago)

ok "popular and respected" is a slight stretch but people who mighnt have cared for his solo stuff now like him on hooks do they not

and i think his window's wide open, i'm just not certain he quite knows how to really distinguish himself solo any more

bei maejor is a charmless idiot

r|t|c, Thursday, 12 July 2012 13:59 (thirteen years ago)

I would have thought Jeremih would have gotten more of a bounce from that really fun Diggy song earlier this summer, but that track didn't have the shelf life I expected.

I'm really conflicted about Bei Maejor. I think he can be a sharp songwriter sometimes, but that's not the same as liking him. "The Truth" was a really cold slab of storytelling, and "Til We Get It Right" was just an absolutely wonderful track

forreal. strictly sean garrett status.

chain the color of am0n (The Reverend), Friday, 13 July 2012 01:02 (thirteen years ago)

bei major is like the male jhene aiko to me... i listen to their shit and i think "this is supposed to be everything i want in r&b" but i find both to be rather dull

J0rdan S., Friday, 13 July 2012 01:04 (thirteen years ago)

there are a couple of really great songs on both of the bei maejor mixtapes I listened to

dayo, Friday, 13 July 2012 01:11 (thirteen years ago)

obv nowhere near on jeremih's level

dayo, Friday, 13 July 2012 01:11 (thirteen years ago)

feel much the same as j0rdan re: bei maejor, when i've listened to his stuff it's like, all these ingredients that should totally be up my street but then i completely forget he exists

bitch I'm on the 242 (lex pretend), Friday, 13 July 2012 07:47 (thirteen years ago)

with a name like that, how could he bei mienor?

dayo, Friday, 13 July 2012 10:40 (thirteen years ago)

on the sole basis that a visceral reaction to r&b these days is as rare as a positive one i should probably go back and check bei maejor's stuff out again; the only thing i can specifically remember about the most recent tape is thinking this some of stuff is not talentless but i just haaaaaaate youuuuuuuuuu

r|t|c, Friday, 13 July 2012 11:38 (thirteen years ago)

also i kinda feel like i wanna defend sean garrett there but life is 4real too short

r|t|c, Friday, 13 July 2012 11:39 (thirteen years ago)

I guess I'm still keeping an eye on the guy because each of his mixtapes has been better than the last. Plus I really like these:

Mixtape finally drops tomorrow. Here's the latest track, with a lovably remedial Gucci verse and a just-plain-awful Tity Boi verse

this version doesn't have that agonizingly long Mike Will intro though

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Wednesday, 8 August 2012 20:09 (thirteen years ago)

huh, never noticed the soft "doot-doo-doot" background vocals in the chorus of "Birthday Sex"

REV LION (The Reverend), Thursday, 9 August 2012 22:16 (thirteen years ago)

not really feeling the mixtape. i prefer the jeremih who sings r&b songs
