I think another angle that contributed to this Chris Brown fiasco is black nationalism. When the Chris Brown/Rihanna fiasco came out, I heard and saw a lot of anti-Caribbean talk coming out of a lot of black American's mouths. Chris Brown is seen as "one of us" meaning he is a good ole southern black boy who is misunderstood and trying to do right. Even though in his music and public appearances that $#%^ hasn't shown any humility at all.

Rihanna is the exotic, Caribbean girl who "has to be unstable because all Caribbean girls are" so black Americans just can not believe she is totally innocent. Since she is "not one of us" she has to be evil and deceiving.

This is probably why I support Amanda Knox, to be honest.

i have a hot bagel waiting for me in my bed so ill say this: (kkvgz), Sunday, 27 March 2011 22:32 (fifteen years ago)

"it is not a simple discussion – layers n layers."
^ but brown seems bent on playing the heel here

slight even by tweet standards (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 6 April 2011 14:09 (fifteen years ago)

I can understand why fellow psycho celebs would be sympathetic to guy, but they don't seem to grasp that the kid needs HELP more than he needs people to shower him with praise and ignore his self-pity/violence.

da croupier, Wednesday, 6 April 2011 14:13 (fifteen years ago)

Esp since this is a guy who seems to pick high-pressure, high profile moments (the night before the Grammys, backstage of Good Morning America) to go fucking apeshit.

da croupier, Wednesday, 6 April 2011 14:16 (fifteen years ago)

trying to think about any abusive celeb who totally got their shit together after counseling and drawing a blank

slight even by tweet standards (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 6 April 2011 14:30 (fifteen years ago)

so i guess people should just politely ignore their violent episodes, then?

da croupier, Wednesday, 6 April 2011 14:45 (fifteen years ago)

And I'm guessing abusive celebs who get their shit together tend to fly under the radar better than those who don't

da croupier, Wednesday, 6 April 2011 14:47 (fifteen years ago)

xp not my point at all, just musing out loud

slight even by tweet standards (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 6 April 2011 14:51 (fifteen years ago)

"no bullshit" is incredible, no bullshit

k3vin k., Sunday, 17 April 2011 18:06 (fifteen years ago)

production-wise it's pretty great, can't really co-sign the song as a whole

steendriving is very bad - but I got a fake ID though! (some dude), Sunday, 17 April 2011 20:37 (fifteen years ago)

it's pretty much catnip for me as you can imagine. haven't been listening to r&b radio as much as i should

k3vin k., Sunday, 17 April 2011 20:45 (fifteen years ago)

i wouldn't imagine "make you come over and over again...AND I'MA LEAVE IT IN!!" being catnip to anyone but the creepiest #teambreezy fangirl

steendriving is very bad - but I got a fake ID though! (some dude), Sunday, 17 April 2011 21:05 (fifteen years ago)

lol

J0rdan S., Sunday, 17 April 2011 21:06 (fifteen years ago)

weird to me that tha bizness don't get more work

J0rdan S., Sunday, 17 April 2011 21:06 (fifteen years ago)

i still can't 100% deal w/ chris brown singing about adult sex -- i can't tell if that's something with his performances or just personal bias

J0rdan S., Sunday, 17 April 2011 21:09 (fifteen years ago)

why does this thread get so much more play than most other pop/r&b artists?

lex pretend, Sunday, 17 April 2011 21:16 (fifteen years ago)

half tabloid nonsense, half chris brown has 38 songs on the radio right now

J0rdan S., Sunday, 17 April 2011 21:17 (fifteen years ago)

i guess we've escaped the full force of his comeback here then, he's fairly ignorable apart from the occasional tabloid nonsense. idk just cuz someone's on the radio doesn't mean they have to be talked about - the tone of this thread is desultory w/r/t the actual material, is it not worth actively trying to ignore him?

lex pretend, Sunday, 17 April 2011 21:20 (fifteen years ago)

idk i've liked all the singles off fame

J0rdan S., Sunday, 17 April 2011 21:23 (fifteen years ago)

are we sure that's not radio stockholm syndrome again, nothing i've heard has warranted a second thought from an artistic perspective, let alone a second listen - and we have enough ushers and taio cruzes making rubbishly average r&b radio pop (who aren't hideous people) already

lex pretend, Sunday, 17 April 2011 21:27 (fifteen years ago)

well, "no bullshit" is a nice lush r&b song, albeit w/ some creepy overtones as outlined by shiplo -- "no bullshit" is just a great rap song that barely has any traces of chris brown & "yeah 3X" is not exceptional or anything but the part in the chorus where the beat drops out is partic great for a song of its ilk

J0rdan S., Sunday, 17 April 2011 21:30 (fifteen years ago)

i have no opinion on the new new single

J0rdan S., Sunday, 17 April 2011 21:30 (fifteen years ago)

by "no bullshit" i mean "look at me now"

J0rdan S., Sunday, 17 April 2011 21:31 (fifteen years ago)

You should keep second guessing whether people really like things imo. It's a v good look. xps

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Sunday, 17 April 2011 21:31 (fifteen years ago)

Chris Brown now has 3 singles out that I tend to leave on and enjoy when they come on the radio ("Yeah 3X," "No Bullshit" and "Look At Me Now"). this is really difficult for me to accept.

i would like to think that me of all people grudgingly admitting this can be taken as a very difficult moment of truth

Chris Brown can still die in a fire afaic

All this information makes America phat (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 18 April 2011 15:45 (fifteen years ago)

the quality of the FAME singles has to make you realize how much everyone in the music industry wants him to succeed. tha bizness, diplo, busta, weezy, etc. he's routinely the worst part of these songs.

zachlyon, Monday, 18 April 2011 16:10 (fifteen years ago)

blazing otm

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Monday, 18 April 2011 16:16 (fifteen years ago)

all of this just makes me wish that the industry hadn't sunk all of their money into such a little shit

fat fat fat fat Usher (DJP), Monday, 18 April 2011 16:17 (fifteen years ago)

yup

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Monday, 18 April 2011 16:18 (fifteen years ago)

well he has had a handful of dope songs post-beating and has been all over the radio like it or not, i kinda wish peeps itt wouldnt be all falling all over themselves and shit to OFFICIALLY DISTANCE THEMSELVES from anything to do with this (admittedly dumbass) 21 year old, it's like we get it deal with it or stfu already

k3vin k., Monday, 18 April 2011 16:28 (fifteen years ago)

only dope song he's had post-beating is "Look at Me Now" and like zach said, he's the worst thing about it

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Monday, 18 April 2011 16:31 (fifteen years ago)

i wouldn't imagine "make you come over and over again...AND I'MA LEAVE IT IN!!" being catnip to anyone but the creepiest #teambreezy fangirl

hahaha - i just meant wrt its obvious "bed" debt & you know i'm a sucker for any songs that sound like this

k3vin k., Monday, 18 April 2011 16:32 (fifteen years ago)

he hasn't done anything sufficient to stop me continuing to judge him on his behaviour. fair enough if he'd come out with the kind of UNDENIABLY AWESOME MONSTER pop song that you have to give in to in the end, but if his material is just kinda dope or aight or songs you "don't mind" hearing that's really really not enough to cut him slack and pretend everything's okay again
